The Larkie Christmas Concert for 2023
Welcome to spring-like Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada! Our cameraman (son-in-law Darin) keeps the show going, while my daughter Megan leads on her Heintzman upright piano. As usual, I follow her lead on my latest violin, a Petro Vareni 1910 (I assure you it's much better than I can make it sound}. We even manage to finish together on some tunes! Merry Christmas and all the best in 2024 from Megan, Darin, Glen and the bevy of cats doing cameos in the video.

Schoenbach 220/Eastman VL80 Comparison

In this segment, I compare a Schoenbach 220 violin (suggested retail price $599 CDN) to an Eastman VL80 violin (suggested retail price $499 CDN). Cleaning a Violin Bow

In this video, I clean a violin bow that has a significant buildup of gummy rosin on the stick, then demonstrate cleaning the hair with alcohol. I test out four products to remove the rosin: Nicko Polish; WE Hill Polish and Cleaner; Water; and Citrus cleaner (sorry, I realized I warned viewers about four times throughout the video, but I didn't want to be the cause of damage to an instrument). ...

Welcome to our version of Christmas Concert 2021. My daughter, Megan, carries the show. God bless her for trying to figure out what I'm doing and where I am. Eastman VL80 Evaluation

I managed to score an Eastman VL80 violin, and thought it might be interesting to compare it to the Stentor Student II and the Aeirsi violin. As mentioned, the VL80 has a lot of lumber in it, which is not usually a good thing. However, workmanship and plate tuning seem to be a bit better in the Eastman, so I guess there's that...
