    I’ve been quoted £20 per m2 and extra £40 per room for skirting. Makes my labour cost for my little bungalow £810. Seems a bit excessive for a days wage. Is this how joiners normally price things? I’m a spark myself and I would never earn £800 a day!

    I’m probably missing something, but why put a chalk line on the subfloor & then underlay over it. Shouldn’t the chalk or laser line be on top of the underlay?

    Do you have to leave a gap around the room or can you trim away the bottom of the skirts and slide it under? Thanks!

    Hi can you possibly tell me what would be best for my floors .....I want to lay herringbone, .....my floors are all floor boards plus some chip board as well its a bungalow....and what underlay would you recommend.....I have watched your video and I really like the way you explain.....I would be so grateful for your help as I will be doing all the work myself and this is all new to me .....Barbara 😊

    • @lisadelbosque4917
      @lisadelbosque4917 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Barbara, I'm by no means a professional, but you might want to look into Coretec floors. I installed the floors in my house myself using their herringbone line, so if I can do it, you can do it. They can be installed on any surface.

    The video was very detailed, clear and informative thanks. And after watching, it raised a couple of questions for me to clarify: Firstly, I understand that LVT can be laid in a herringbone pattern, but I have recently been informed that only if it's a 'glue down or loose lay product'. And LVT that has a 'click and lock' mechanism on the sides will not work in a herringbone pattern because it can't click together properly and therefore will be compromised/fail? Secondly, I was also informed to lay 'click' LVT existing skirting need to be removed due prior to fitting if architrave isn't wanted? Just needed some clear clarification around both points. Thanks

    • @jakeklassen3702
      @jakeklassen3702 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s engineered hardwood and because the boards connect via tongue and groove you can’t float it. Has to be fasten with nails or glue, or both.

    Genuine question. Why glue the carpet to the underlay lay? I'm a gas engineer and when we have to lift carpets it leaves an absolute mess.

    • @tdotnate
      @tdotnate 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because the staples lift and glue doesn’t usually unless it’s water based. But that’s the proper way to do it

    • @frank5363
      @frank5363 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In this particular video the carpet being fitted is meant to be double stuck. Stick the underlay to the sub floor and the carpet to the underlay. They should be using a different glue called F3 but spray glue is quick and easy (cowboys) The problem you’re coming across is most likely lazy carpet fitters using spray glue instead of stretching properly

  • @leslie1971

    Not sure why some people are upset about the pattern on the straight planks. I thought they could be laid in a step pattern or a brick pattern. I like herringbone or straight planks (brick pattern or stepped) just not sure both together. Great work though

  • @Rickblues46

    You did not find the two centre lines of the room you put a line parallel to one wall .. ei you should have measured in at least four points the width and found the centre of each and the run a line through the mean average of these marks .. then the pointless exercise of finding half block width to follow a lazer line when you run what you called the crown square with the top first wall as not all rooms are square and true This brings into conflict your entire setting out method and the use of a 45degree set square to do cuts, as you do not use a traditional bordered method this involves other problems such as waste wood cuttings and through other areas or doorway all this would be eliminated if you used true tested old wood block or parquet flooring methods ! Says I a retired old school floorlayer layer😢😢
