When Painting, you can also use Painters tape, it's a sort of paper tape that you can use on Edges like Electric plugs/switched. it will make the edges neater and will not make the appliances or door frames dirty. You can also use the tape on the floor to wall edges if you won't add side skirts with tiles in the future, so the pain till go into every nook and cranny Also try find a big piece of unImportant cloth that you can lay on the floor so you don't have a big job of cleaning tiles afterwards.
