A little farbrengen in your shul . Very nice .I remember the farbrengens that we used to have in Tephereth Bachurim , a special program set up in The Rabbinical College of Morristown, New Jersey. The farbrengen was set up in our cheder , where we davened and of course , studied Neegla and Chassidus . Rabbi Lipsker was our Mashpeah , our spiritual Rabbi and he led the festivities with a bottle of mashka - very cheap vodka - and something to go with it , like sourkraut or herring . Well in his cups ( or pretending to be ) he would tell us the most colorful chassidic vorts mussar - ethical stories , in humorous forms , meant to deflate our egos. He would first encourage us to drink a toast , by telling us , " Mach a L'chaim " and then he' d let it rip . One story that he told was about a little bird that had excrement clinging to his tail . He had no idea that it was there , so he would exclaim , " Phew , what is that stink ! " Wherever he flew , he would smell the same odor and he couldn't for the life of him figure out where the odor came from ! We usually went to bed without cleaning up , sometimes Rabbi Lipsker was fast asleep , sometimes sleeping on the table . He loved his boys and tried to look after us . We all went to bed and when we went into the cheder for morning Shacharith , the place was filled with cups , some half empty , some overturned , with vodka and a half empty bottle - good times .
