I watched a video essay the other day of the nightmare it was for her in making this movie apparently Winona Ryder was supposed to have the job, but she had to quit because of work exhaustion, she was literally the definition of casted the last second. How she would read in the newspapers while filming this movie that even her own costars didn’t want her there. She really was inexperienced but then again it wasn’t like anybody helped her. They wanted her to do better, but nobody would take her under their wing I’m glad that she went on to be a good Director and that she didn’t let that stop her because it really was quite sad

I agree that she looked the part. Her acting wasn't *that* bad. I mean all those actors had started out somewhere, and Pacino was relatively new too for "The Godfather". She was just inexperienced but still okay for the role.

Valley Girl meets The Godfather. She was a last minute replacement for Winona Ryder so we shouldn't be too rough on her but her best acting scene was in the first Godfather when she was baptized in the church.

She didn’t want to do the movie Winona Ryder backed out three days before filming because of “exhaustion”. She was doing all the rehearsals while they were waiting for Ryder they didn’t have time to get a replacement as Coppola s other choice Rebecca Schaffer was killed by an obsessed fan. That’s ol when he asked sofia to do it and the cast were all on board. She isn’t bad in the film just super green and she speaks naturally monotone but she looked beautiful and did the best she could.
