I saw Elton (for the first time) at the concert just before this one: it was at the O'Keefe Centre in Toronto. I was amazed how he and Ray Cooper managed to bring to life the songs that had been recorded with a full band and/or lots of orchestration. He showed his true musicianship on this tour. His vocals were clean and elastic. - a real pleasure to hear. They performed 6 songs that night that I would never again hear live in the 40 some EJ concerts that I attended over the years. Thanks for posting.

I actually think this is nearly tied with the best 89 version. In Lyon. I don't mind the "Kiss the bride" phrasing. But that's because I have big tolerance of bad 1989 performance. As long as there a decent quantity, and in this example, he hits all the falsetto parts and the "bye bye"s so in my opinion, this is alright. A lot of people might disagree though which i understand.

Pulling this song off live is no easy feat. Very difficult vocal parts and Elton is doing this in Eb the way it was it was originally recorded. Also, there were no other singers called in to sing the harmony lines when it was recorded; the original band members (all guys) did it all. Doing it in the studio is one thing...nailing it every time (god knows how many shows in a row) in a live performance is very much something else...some slack deserved...my opinion.

Freddie’s vocal node issues were prominent here. Never chickened out and cancelled shows though. Even Live AID his Dr told him not to sing but he owned it that day
