⁠@@mookstreasuretrove That’s a total cope. Everyone can do what you do, don’t delude yourself. Truly - nobody’s jealous - we all can pick through an open pile of items and look up whether it’s selling for more online. People hate this because it takes away nice things from people who could use a windfall and people didn’t donate with the intention of having resellers take all the good stuff. I used to donate a lot of mid tier designer clothing to thrifts so that girls and women can get nice quality things at an affordable price. After seeing the resellers pop up, I now give to church auctions and directly to people in need.

@@mookstreasuretrove well anything military is collectable. But with canteens ones with the canteen cup that fits around the bottom still with them, ones with Trench art or names etc carved into them. Ones from rare makers, Ww1 or 2 dated ones early ww2 dated ones with black plastic caps. Any pre Vietnam or Vietnam era ones made from or lined with materials other than aluminum. Wide mouth ones with bigger lids, ones where the carrier is made from any material but OD canvas for example Tan, wool lined, painted or written on,by GI’s Marine corps or navy marked etc have different types of snaps buckles or straps holding the canteen in it’s carrier, a good example would be a cavalry type with the long flaps that cross over or go straight down the front and the snaps are towards the bottom of the carrier rather than the mow common short dog ear flaps with snaps near the top. Really anything military is collectable and someone is collecting it. The list is basically endless. I’ve bought things from the Revolutionary era through modern military at garage sales and flea markets for pennies on the dollar. Things often overlooked at garage sales that can be gold include Helmets, web gear, Bandoliers ammo belts knives, bayonets, ww1 or two dated mess kits, GI shaving kits and patches especially patches. As a kid I in the late 70’s or early $80’s once bought an entire box of loose military insignia and patches and other great stuff for $10 that would if I sold it all now bring several hundred to several thousand dollars in total. For example just one patch that was in that box is now bringing north of $800. If you garage sale a lot I recommend joining the many collectors groups on Facebook, not just the ones for the things you like and have knowledge of but the ones for things you aren’t interested in but routinely see showing up at garage sales. Since ww2 collecting is at an all time high right now and because we have lost most of the ww2 veterans and more are gone every day leaving behind families who often just dump their possessions at garage or estate sales or even local junk auctions having very little sense or sentimentality interest or storage space, especially space lol. I highly recommend getting yourself a copy of the Book The Ww II GI U.S. army uniforms 1941-45 in color photographs By Richard Windrow & Tim Hawkins, just to start with because it shows all the various things I’m talking about. But don’t stop there because some of the things they brought home as souvenirs from foreign lands and defeated enemies no matter how small and insignificant they may seem, can be unbelievably valuable.
