There's an interesting documentary (HBO, I think) called "Risky Drinking" that covers this topic. It shows people dealing with alcohol issues, but also goes into the science that says that alcohol abuse is a spectrum; people tend to think of it in terms of "you're either an alcoholic or you're not", but really it's more complicated than that. That first girl might very well *not* be an alcoholic, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't abuse alcohol or have an unhealthy relationship with it.
