Where have you gone, coarse sailor!? No sailing this season?
Hello Thanks for this nice video ! I see you have a Honda motor. Is it a long or a short shaft ? What model of motor support is it installed on the stern of the boat ?
Short shaft and adjustable mount. Most chandlerys will sell them. Thanks for your comment.
Good. How can the water that goes in the boat can be evacuated ? I don't see trap or big pipes...thanks
I have self bailers. Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed your video, just working out my next boat. Who's version of the song is it please.
Glad you enjoyed it. All music is credited in the description. Thanks
Looked like lots of fun, apart from the tent disaster that is. Will look out for part 2 Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi. Wondered if you had modified it since using it? How did it work without heat guard etc. wanting to build something similar instead of the current plastic containers everything is stored in.
Works fine with no modifications, (see my Poole Trips!). I would recommend having a way to stop it sliding about in the box if you're cooking onboard.
Hi, I've been watching your videos for a while now, I've been looking to get my own wanderer. I finally got my hands on one over the weekend, cant wait to get out onto the water. I have a question, what is the mainsheet pully you have on the traveller? looks alot more complicated than mine? Thanks
Congrats on getting your boat and hope to see you on the water soon. The block on the traveller is my own doing and I think its called.... a double fiddle, swivel, clam cleat block!!! Or something like that. Having a cleat on it comes with some risk so you need to decide if it's for you. Fair winds.
great video , when were you there we were sailing our dinghy there last week ?
End of June, weather was starting to turn and had some windy experiences. Great fun. Thanks for the comment.
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 great place to sail , we had 3 days of excitable wind but 4 days perfect weather , i thought i didnt see your boat we stopped at the same place 😉👍
Wonderful
Trangia even supply a 300ml fuel bottle which might help, depending upon what else you decide to keep in there. The cooker set is designed to work well in a wind anyway. Good effort, well done & thanks for posting. I assume you have Roger Barnes book "The Dinghy cruising companion".
Loving your videos...just joined DQSC & looking to get into dinghy cruising. It looks like you love your Wanderer and I would value your advice about the boat, especially as a single hander.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm more than happy to catch up & chat about boats ☺️ She's a fine boat for single handling but better with 2.
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 That would be great as I'm looking at a Wanderer (No. 51) for sale at Emsworth. What's the best way to contact you? Are you a member at DQSC?
@@neiljones68 Hi, check your messages on the website. 👍
It is great to sail without the jib when the wind is a little heavy! I always enjoy those occasions! 🙂
Every time out on the water is an adventure, if seen from the right perspective. Thanks for the video!
What a beautiful morning for a sail! Thanks for taking us along - most enjoyable.
Good use of On the Shore by Saint Etienne
A wonderful album if I do say so myself.
As Jack Kerouac wrote, "Let the mind beware, that though the flesh be bugged, the circumstances of existence are pretty glorious.”
Beautiful day for it fellas
Hi, do you use the public slipway at Dell Quay? Im planning to trailer my Wanderer 1066 over to Chichester Harbour and wondering where best to launch?
You can but you can only launch / retrieve ~2hrs either side of high tide. There's a bigger hard a little further along at Itchenor which is less tide dependent. Enjoy.
Thanks for sharing your pleasant cruise. Any thoughts about some more distant sail?
Lovely boat, thanks for sharing
So shallow
How are you attaching your fenders at the stern? I can see you have them attached at the stats… hoping to get to Chichester this summer looks lovely.
Fenders are secured by fixed loop eyes I put on. Look forward to seeing you on the water. Feel free to say Hi.
Your videos are really helpful. Have you thought of doing a general set up tutorial?
Thank you for your kind words. Not sure what you mean as I'm a genuine amateur learning everything as I go. Pls keep an eye out this year as I plan to spread my wings a little!!
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 As a total newbie myself there is very little stuff on you tube about the Wanderer. From watching your videos I’ve been able to work out quite a lot. I’d be very interested in how you raise and step the mast and how you set up kicker. You have a lot of knowledge and the videos are put together really well 👍
Great day on the water, captain. I wonder as a novice how much you lose by raising that boom above concussion height? LoL
Que motor llevas? Gracias.
Honda 2.3hp 4 stroke. Heavy but air cooled and reliable.
Does it handle ok with just the main ?
It does.
Fun video. FYI - many of is would rather just hear the water on the hull, the wind in the sails and your comments rather than the music. Think of where your viewers might be watching - I, for example, waiting at the DMV for 2 hours surrounded by people who give me dirty looks every time the music takes over at extreme volume. Your viewers want your sailing content more than background music.
Thanks for your feedback. I'm very much aware of people's mixed opinions regarding music on sailing video and these are amateur videos. Hope you still enjoy them and encourage you to get on the water.
Like you I passed my Lvl 2 and went through the knee and hip pain of a Topaz. I learned a lot about the Wanderer from your videos and recently bought one to sail in Poole Harbour. Many thanks for all the entertaining and informative snippets you give us and if I ever try sailing at Chichester Harbour for a change I will keep an eye out for you boat.
Thank you, I hope to get to sail Poole Harbour at some point so I may get closer than you think. Have fun and stay safe.
Nice day out. Lovely location. The Wanderer looks like a great dinghy for a couple of people. I guess you sail solo as well. I’ll check out some of your other videos. Cheers from Aus. Terry.
Hello just watched several of your vids and all good but would be better if you explained what you doing while sailing. can I ask also why at about 3 mins into your vid you are sailing cock handed with the mail sheet in your left hand ans tiller in your right ? any reason for this ???
I'm a coarse sailor, what more can I say! Thanks for your comments, I also enjoy watching others sailing videos so I hope mine can offer some entertainment.
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 sire and I.like your videos but when you sitting on the port side your hands are correct but when u sit on the starboard side they are the wrong way around. I am.not nit picking but try to hold your tiller with the hand closest to the tiller on each tack its much better try it and see. Good luck.
Always a delightfully "refined" cruise with such a "coarse" sailor! Thank you for your generosity in sharing these with us.
💯 promosm
Love the tablet holder, I’ve been looking for a decent one for my Wanderer…..Can you post a link for it please

@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 Brilliant thanks very much 👍❤️
Nice boat. Envious of your proximity to Chichester (?) Harbour. Interesting that you sail single-handed with stern main. Looking forward to more from the Coarse Sailing.
Hi, love these videos! Recently brought a wanderer and love it but really struggling to launch it and get it back on the trailer single handily. I'm 6'4 so it should be possible but it really hard! Any suggestions? Again, love the videos
Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Mine isn't to easy to get out of the water either and is a combination of brute strength and practice. However launching isn't really a problem, can you elaborate?
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 sure. I have to launch it, then attempt to ground it, take the trailer back, then relaunch and then get in it. It's possible but a slight headache. Any tips Thanks again
@@rhettmoir hi, sounds fairly routine, is there anywhere you can tie it to instead of grounding it? And can to leave the trailer nearby? A second person can help! Either way it's always a labour of love.
We went for a Secumar 40 litre after a Turtling last year. and a second 14 litre bucket!
Don't blame you!
Great to see a low number wanderer in great condition.
I like the seat pads.
Where do you launch from? I would like to bring my Swale Pilot down and sail Chichester Harbour later in the year.
Hi, I launch from Dell Quay or a little further down and less tide dependant in Itchenor. Both are public hards.
I'll have to measure it next time I'm at the boat, but long enough to destroy a shop window!! (See 'about' description to explain that one! 😀)
Sound, thanks a million👍.
Btw can u tell how long the wanderers boom length is. Thank
Good music sir
How long are your oars? I sail a 16' dinghy and my oars are 12'. I only use them in a calm and in the very last moments when going back to the ramp. I sail near Montreal, on the Saint-Lawrence river. I suscribed! :-)
Mine are cheap 2nd hand oars & 9ft long. Just got theses to get going with rowing. Probably could get away with shorter ones and I also intend to use them when becalmed, but a good test in strong winds & tide!! Bet it's lovely where you sail!?
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 9ft is a good length. The longer they are ,the slower you can row for the same speed. My place is not a sailing paradise. There is some current I have to deal with and the prevalling wind goes mostly in the same direction. But I live at just a few minutes of the ramp and I know the place very well. There are islands and many nice spots to picnic or camp. If you don't mind, here is a rowing video I made. :-) th-cam.com/video/BZG3i8Up7C8/w-d-xo.html
I notice you have a fixed gooseneck on your Wanderer. Someone has kindly removed my sliding version and my furling drum ☹️ My Wanderer is an early version Sail No. 101. It seems there is no replacement sliding gooseneck available - can you recommend a fixed version that will fit? Any help is much appreciated 👍
Sorry to hear about your boat parts being taken and also sorry that I can't make a sensible suggestion for you. At times I've thought that a sliding goose neck maybe preferable! Individual choice I guess. Hope you find what you're looking for. Thanks for watching.
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 thanks for getting back - sounds like the sliding version is obsolete so I will have to rivet one on 🙄
So, marks out of ten for the oars? I can see a couple of ways to improve that score though. Something to brace your feet against would allow you to transfer more power to the oars and collars on the oars to make it easier to keep the oars in the best place within the rowlocks would help. Nice to see the changes you are making to better suit yourself. Best wishes Al
Thanks for the tips. Always appreciated. Oars much better than paddles & quieter than an outboard!!
@@adiaryofacoarsesailor3862 Yes, oars are much better than paddles. I'm considering an electric outboard at the moment. I sail, mostly, on the River Ouse at York and the river is tree lined for most of its length creating a lot of wind shadow so I need an alternative source of propulsion. More research required there. In the meantime I'll carry on with wind and Armstrong's Patent Propulsion. Best wishes Al
I see you are not using your jib sheet but i am always told i must when sailing my Wanderer ?? please advise
Hi, I'm no expert but am wondering why? I can't think how not using the jib / genoa is a concern. As long as the foresail is acting in place of the forestay I cannot think why a furled foresail is a problem! I've scowered the manual but can't find anything obvious. Can you explain more? Thanks
Do you remove your fore stay when using your furling jib or do you not have any issues; bought a Wanderer last week cleaning her up this week and hope to sail next weekend… Sail no - 524 🤘
@Matt Higginson sorry for the late reply. Yes I do remove my forestay when using my genoa. Tried various options but to no avail.
Splendid! Thanks for sharing such a great day.
What is the very little outboard you have?
It's a 2.4hp air cooled Honda 4stroke. Very reliable but fairly heavy.
I note you could picnic unencumbered by canvas. Do you have a 'lazy jack' system? Thinking of adding such to my Gull.
She sails nicely - Great day out on the water. Thanks for the sharing. I liked the way you used reverse to turn right more quickly too.
Nice video . What outboard was you using.
Thanks. It's a Honda 2.3hp Air cooled 4stroke.
