Pomeranians should NEVER be clippered, they actually have a TRIPLE coat, the one closest to the skin is the 'ancient, primitive' coat. Pomeranians also are difficult to groom, you run the risk of too aggressive brushing, thinking it's matted, all the while you will actually be damaging the inner most 'primitive' coat. Samoyeds, Chows, Huskies all have triple coats. For more information may I refer all to 'Groomer to Groomer', Groomer's Guide to 'Grooming the Primitive Coat', it's an indepth read and I advise anyone with one of these breeds to fully read and understand that article.

I would never go back to the groomer that shaved my Pom. I have had three Poms and did not shave any of them. Sometimes their hair won't grow back.

I hate owners who shave spitz dogs to wear dresses on them. Just buy a shorthair dog if you don't like dogs with fluffy fur.

Pomeranians have a soft, cottony undercoat that sheds. The longer outer coat is the permanent hair that grows much slower and at different rates. That is the part of their coat that should never be shaved and at best just trimmed here and there as needed to even out their overall look for uniformity. The biggest issue I see with my Pomeranian is coat care in regards to regular brushing. It is the number one best way to prevent coat issues. However it should be done regularly yet sparingly. Poms can be over brushed as well which can cause coat issues such as skin disorders and patchiness. They require special brushing techniques which is basically picking and not true brushing. You do not brush straight through their coats the same as you brush long human hair You pick. Basically go down and up in small patches one at a time. Best I've found is to use a pin brush. Use the shoft short bristle type brush first to align the fur hairs gently. Then with the wire pin bristle side (often these pin brushes come with both types two sided). This technique is more gentle and appropriate for Pomeranian's double coat. Ideally every three days. But I've found I can stretch it to once every two weeks at times depending on how bad mine sheds and what his coat is doing at the time. There are going to be matts. It happens. Just cut them out or shave if they do not come out easily enough. Spot cutting of matts should not affect their coat or appearance if done properly and sparingly. A big issue I see with Pomeranians is the lack of understanding that they will need regular, lifelong coat care. These types of dogs with this specialized fur are easy to be neglected by ignorant owners. Start the pup out early with regular grooming sessions to get them accustomed. Even when they resist and refuse, lovingly remind your pup that you care enough about them to groom them so they can be healthy, happy, and look their best! ❤

Omg thanks so much for this video. I couldn't find anything online to really show and dive in on the topic. My baby has only been groomed once when he was 8 months. But I took him to groomer and they shaved him way lower than I asked. They said it was too patchy they had to go lower . My baby is cold and seems sad and low energy. It may be a long shot of you see this but did you use any product on their coats to promote growth .

when I put pyjamas or another type of clothing on my tiny pom (he's not shaved} he calms down. He doesn't play as much when clothes are on him. I think that is why you find that your doggies don't play as much or seem tired etc now. It's not their body temperature but it's the clothing that makes our doggies calm down . That is what I have discovered anyway. I only put clothes on him occassionally cuz I love to pet his long hair. But I am thinking of a lion cut because he gets a messy bottom a lot even though hair is shaved around his backside. Im going to leave it for now and think about it more. Id have to have clothing on him as you do, if he got a lion cut unless it was a warm day.

WOAHHH!! I'm happy they recovered. 0.0 I take my Medical SD to a breed specific groomer. To avoid this. I heard horror stories of how some groomers just do the shave. The place I got him, said that the shave can make his hair come back looking like mange. He has a summer cut but it stays.... way ahead of the fur level it needs to be. Not to damage it. Its done with scissors. The winter is just a trim.
