“From Recovery to a Rotating Dovetail - The Story of Alex Peay Furniture”
A short film by my brother @justinpeay with @parosfilms about who I am and how I got to Alex Peay Furniture. It’s not the straightest of lines, but it was the path I took and I wouldn’t change it.

This is hard! 🤣
lol! Yes it was! 😂
Great Work. Love the rotating dovetail. Will have to give er a try one day. If I ever get to build a chair.
The sun is up......the sky is blue.....
That's so cool, man! Great work! Proof is in the pudding.
Superb! Good form, sir!
Do you have dimension for how you created this? I want to study it further.
It is fairly subjective when it comes to the dimensions. Essentially you have 2 diameters that you’re working with that are dictated by the 2 forstner bits used. Almost every decision on dimension made after that was for aesthetics.

Where would you use it ????
I use it making chairs. It’s the connection between the chair leg and seat.
Id love to see u cut it. U should include the footage
The video of how to cut it is pinned to the top of the comments.
The link to the video is literally the comment directly above yours
Right, but how did you cut it?
One of my other videos will show you how to cut it.
God bless you Alex. Such talent and grace.
Bravo! What a beautiful thing you made.
Thank you very much!
Damn that was well produced and a great edit. Cool to hear your story dude.
Thanks man - I really appreciate that. I’m fortunate my twin is a gifted story teller. I think we only made 2 small changes after his first edit.
I dont understand its function or purpose.
It’s the connection between a chair leg and a chair seat. It’s dovetailed so you wouldn’t need glue or fasteners to hold it in place. I still glue it though.
lathe to do the spindle but pretty much everything else is by hand
Lathe, router table and hand tools for the leg. Drill press with forstner bits and chisels for the seat socket. I have a video on here that shows all the steps.
this is so cool, still not quite sure how you made this.
most likely a lathe or some sort of machining.
Thanks!! You can see how it’s cut here: th-cam.com/video/QzmrjWzi9AQ/w-d-xo.html
Very cool joint. You should check out creating your own scratch stock to refine the Tails (less sanding for the win)
I will! Thanks!
I don't know what it's like to be addicted, but I know what it feels like to be inspired. Thank you for your story and your edification of those who want to defy the fear of rejection or non-acceptance. Stay the course, brother.
That is so incredibly kind of you to say - Thank you!
Wow, what a amazing progression of the Maloof joint. Looks great on the chair.
Thank you!
What a great story. What an excellent woodworking joint!!
Thanks!!
What is keeping the inner cylinder from popping back out. Does the rotation lock it in some way?
The dovetail goes all the way around and keeps it from popping out.

They say building things by hand is a dying art. Quite the opposite, I’d say. It has breathed life into you, and all of those who get to gather round your tables will get to feel it too. Lucky people.
So well said. It has been a cathartic journey for sure. Thank you for taking the time to watch the video!
