Join me while I try to visit all 1732 train stations in Switzerland’s public transport network! 🚅
🇨🇭🍫 📸 🇬🇧 🥐 ☕️ 🏔️ 🇦🇹 🍂
I live in a tiny flat in Zurich, and am lucky enough to have access to fantastic train connections to all over the country and a lot of Europe 🗺️
I’m making the most of my lack of (non-work) responsibilities and exploring beautiful landscapes and pretty cities, wherever possible by public transport 🌳
Zurich is still quite new to me, having moved here in 2020, so I’m slowly getting used to Switzerland and its sometimes strange rules and traditions, and I try to go home to London (and my sister) or to visit my parents in Vienna when I can 🌿
Big fan of hot chocolate in cute mugs ☕️
Love a pair of cosy fun socks 🧦
Enthusiastic amateur photographer always trying to improve 📸

Schaffhausen + German train stations in Switzerland | Swiss train travel vlog
Back at the start of May, I headed to Schaffhausen, near the German-Swiss border and the Rhine Falls, and I went for a little walk near Switzerland's northernmost train station (Thayngen), and then I walked from nearby Herblingen to Schaffhausen itself and its little fortress ""Munot"".
I'm going to try and visit all 1720 Swiss public transport train stations... wish me luck!
This is Episode 6 of my ""All Swiss Stations"" series, which of course owes its inspiration to the wonderful www.youtube.com/@AllTheStations
Train stations visited today:
- Schaffhausen
- Thayngen
- Herblingen
(I'm counting a train station as visited if I've spent 15min in the area, or walked from it to another train station or vice versa.)

Note about my All Swiss Stations project: For the number of Swiss stations which form part of the public transport system, I have linked the relevant source on my website, but since that data changes, the total I'm working towards may also change. Sorry about the inconsistencies across videos as a result!

I visited a very autumnal Bülach and a few nearby villages and train stations back in November 2023 - this is video of my relaxed day out. Hi Cecilia, I've just discovered your channel & I have to say I love your content, I find it very well presented, engaging & informative. Wishing you the best of luck with the channel.
Thank you, really appreciate the kind comment!
@cecilia.travel you're very welcome. 😊
Great video! Mesmerizing views. I would luv to take this train ride. Is this SBB or Italian train?
Thank you! The views are still lovely now, but you go through a little less of the mountains (and save an hour!) because the Gotthard Base Tunnel is open again. You could always take the “Gotthard Panorama Express” route to Milan and change there, but the direct train is back on the fast track. The train is an SBB one - in my experience those go from Zurich to Milan / Venice (and back) rather than Italian ones, but the staff etc change, and I’m not sure but I think the restaurant options might change too. Definitely recommend this journey, I hope you get round to it!
@@cecilia.travel Thanks a lot for all the updates. Much appreciated. Best wishes!
stumbled over this video. i grew up in the 80s in that area (Bülach)
I think it’s changed quite a bit, but it is quite a cute little town!
That seemed like a long day. Good job.
I didn't realize that they celebrated Halloween in Switzerland.
It’s not nearly as big as in the UK or US, but it is celebrated a little! Also this was with a fairly international bunch of people :)
We loved visiting Switzerland 2 years ago. It's a beautiful country. Enjoyed your video and also the background music.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Hiya!~ you did unreal , ;))
Enjoyed your video
Because Switzerland is behind in most things. And nearly no Warehouse is big enough that it actually need it, cause if you take a closer look you will notice, every Coop, Migros, Denner etc have the same "layout" and the things are in the same order.
Schön erklärt👍💪
I’m sure you’re right that people are expected to find things anyway :) The funny thing with this branch that doesn’t have signs over the aisles (the Coop at Stauffacher) is that it has a really strange layout! There are 2 floors, with fresh things downstairs, and the ground floor has two areas with shelves at an angle… so it took me forever to find lemon juice, but hey you learn over time :)
Really good explanation and beautiful train ride
This bish.. be happy their ice cream machine is working. The McDonald’s by my house hasn’t had a working flurry machine since I was a kid
Is this in the US? I know it’s something people say, that McFlurry machines never work, but I’ve never been to a McDonald’s where it wasn’t working! But I’ve always lived in Europe, maybe there’s a difference for some reason!
They don't want to give the size of a small which is cheaper to people they want to have the more expensive on the menu because they know that you want it so you're willing to pay more
Maybe! But don’t they usually say the thing they want you to buy is limited so that you feel like you need to get it now?
Capitalism at it's finest🤣these mfs are plotting😂😂
Haha :) Just baffling!
Hah! That’s ridiculous! 🌸x
Ok
Ok
Keep it up
Wow
Helps the bees find the right hive.
Oohh that makes sense! Thank you for explaining!
34:56 if you visit again, there’s a pedestrian/bicycle bridge to the west, which is easily accessible from the station. It has no traffic and you have a much better view
Sorry about the late reply, but thank you for the suggestion! Have added it to my Google Maps pins ☺️
sweet 😊 you deserve more ❤
What train line has that route without a train change in Milan? We will be Zurich in late September and then traveling to Venice. Thanks!
Hey! If you look on the SBB website on their timetable, there’s usually a 7.33am train from Zurich to Venice and a return one at 3.18pm. (SBB are the Swiss national railways, I would really recommend getting their app for while you’re in Switzerland and using their EasyRide function for shorter journeys - if you google “SBB EasyRide” it’ll come up.) It’s worth checking prices on the Trenitalia site as well, sometimes they differ, and Trainline etc also sell tickets for this route. (It’s Zurigo to Venezia S. Lucia on the Italian site.) While the Gotthard Base Tunnel is closed for passenger transport, the route is still the one I took as well, up through the mountains, but at some point in September they’ll reopen the tunnel and the direct train will go through that instead - which still gets you some lovely views before and after the tunnel, and the train is an hour faster that way so you can’t really lose either way :) One thing to be aware of is that within Switzerland you don’t need reservations on almost any “normal” train, but in Italy it’s a requirement and as a result it’s part of booking a ticket - which you can do on the SBB or Italian railways site - so book in advance if you can! Hope you have the best time!
@@cecilia.travel Thank you Cecilia! The video was great and your response was very helpful. I think if you can boost the volume on your end it would help, I had it at full volume and had trouble hearing. The viewers can always lower their volume if too loud. You will do well on TH-cam IMO!
Ah, thank you for the feedback, really appreciate it!
This sounds like something out of the Fallout universe
Haha it does sound crazy for me too! But a couple of my Swiss colleagues just reckon it’s a rational precaution :)
@@cecilia.travel I mean, yeah, I definitely rather have that than not have it when living close to a nuclear power plant, even tho modern nuclear plants, especially in wealthy countries like Switzerland are really, really safe
Nice one Cecilia. Train ride to Venice has been on my list for a while now. Even more motivated to try it after seeing your experience. The facts you shared through the video were interesting.
Thanks Shalini! It was so nice, definitely going again sometime because it really is super easy!
Nice views indeed! Will definitely try this route one day, Venice is on my list ☺️
It was such a nice and easy trip! Definitely going back :)
