Formulating the American Muslim Political Agenda | Islam A. Siddiqui (1989 ISNA Convention)
- Complete program: th-cam.com/video/oBv3EFXLmZo/w-d-xo.html
Islam A. Siddiqui speaks at an insightful political awareness workshop on August 5, 1989. The program was hosted by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. It was broadcast on C-Span.
Islam A. Siddiqui (Hindi: इस्लाम सिद्दिक़ी) is an Indian-American scientist, and government official, and lobbyist who served as the Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Prior to this, he was Vice President for Science and Regulatory Affairs at CropLife America, and a career official in the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
Siddiqui earned a Bachelor of Science degree in plant protection from G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar, India, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in plant pathology, both from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
Siddiqui served the Clinton Administration in several capacities from 1997 to 2001. At the United States Department of Agriculture, Siddiqui was Undersecretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs, Senior Trade Advisor to Secretary Dan Glickman, and Deputy Undersecretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs. Before joining USDA, Siddiqui spent 28 years with the California Department of Food and Agriculture.[4]
From 2004 to 2009, Dr. Siddiqui served on the United States Department of Commerce's Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, and Health/Science Products and Services, which advises the United States Secretary of Commerce and United States Trade Representative on international trade issues related to these sectors. From 2001 and 2003, Siddiqui was appointed as Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, where he focused on agricultural biotechnology and food security issues.
From 2001 to 2008, Siddiqui was a registered lobbyist with CropLife America, representing biotechnology companies including BASF, Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, DuPont, FMC Corp., Monsanto, Sumitomo, and Syngenta.
On April 2, 2010, President Barack Obama named Siddiqui to the post of Chief Agricultural Negotiator in a recess appointment. Siddiqui's previous nomination to the position remained on the Senate docket for more than a year and a half. His nomination was reported to the Senate floor from the United States Senate Committee on Finance on October 11, 2011, and senators finally voted to confirm Siddiqui as part of an en bloc group of nominations confirmed early in the morning hours of October 21, 2011. Siddiqui submitted his resignation December 12, 2013.
Position on genetically modified foods
Siddiqui is a supporter of genetically modified foods for human consumption, and repudiates their potential health risks. In 1999, he worked against the mandatory labeling of genetically modified foods in Japan, stating that such labeling "would suggest a health risk where there is none." In 2003, he criticized the European Union's precautionary rejection of the importation of genetically modified foods, stating that the ban was tantamount to "denying food to starving people."[10] In 2009 he called for a "second green revolution" employing biotechnology and genetic engineering.
In 1998, as Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs at the United States Department of Agriculture, Siddiqui oversaw the release of the National Organic Program's standards for organic food labeling. The standards permitted both irradiated and genetically modified foods to be labeled as organic. (The standards were subsequently revised in response to public opposition.)
In 2005, speaking on behalf of CropLife America, Siddiqui stated his satisfaction with the defeat of local propositions in California that would have banned cultivation of genetically modified crops.

Arabs never identified as "Palestinians " before 1967. They were arabs, part of the ottmam empire or the british mandate. Her family and father lived in cairo and lebanon. He was born in Jerusalem only because his family were there on holiday. Its Ridiculous that she thinks she is Palestinian. Jerusalem was a jewish city for over 1000 years. It has a hebrew name. Arabs only came there because Jews were persecuted and ethnicaly cleansed from their homeland.

I just finished the book. This.mans work and the work of his FBI colleagues QUITE LITERALLY coukd have PREVENTED 9/11, prevented other terror ataacks by Al Qaeda and led to the capture of Bin Laden FAR SOONER than 9/11 IF NOT for the belligerent and reckless incompetence of the CIA. The damage done by the CIA on this country from 1996 until 3011 goes FAR BEYOND the wildest dreams of even THE BIGGEST critics of the CUA. Tbere are MANY people who say that the CIA needs to be terminated. If there are oeople out there wbo believe that these sentiments are absurd and conspiratorial than THIS BOOK would make those skeptical FIRM BELIEVERS that the CIA needs to be completely dismantled

I read that he ran for the US Senate in 2012. I had no idea that he had also ran for the Senate way back in 1988. I’m a Muslim and I’ve come across him and his institute so I feel like I’m now a Libertarian. Especially after seeing these two major parties neglecting us Muslims by accepting money from pro-Israel lobbies such as AIPAC. I’m a libertarian anyway instead of an authoritarian so I may as well just be a Libertarian from now on.

Reza completes misses the point on the morality issue of slavery. If it god s word then it is a moral issue. Not only that if it isn't gods word then slavery laws do still carry moral implication, in that scenario indeed these subjective morals were different at the time. Yet both cases destroy the argument that it is a book written inspired by the one who knows all and is all powerful. If that is the best he could write. Damn. That's sad he couldn't imagine more than most humans at the time they lived in. Not only that, as a reader of the qu'ran and doing some double checking, it is quite clear that there are instructions on how to treat your slaves rather than to not own them absolutely. It is clear what happens, we reason for a goal. If your goal is to not see things as they are because it might hurt so instead you reason for keeping your religion rigidly. Then you will miss the point, strawman, and be totally out of your depth.

Suddenly they take it literal? He seems to point to hypocrisy. Ofcourse it is hypocritical to not ignore that people point in a literal way to a point in the bible or scripture that states x is bad. Because often people of the religion at least half or so think x is bad. Whereas in non religious modern people x would not be bad in general. Ofcourse then we would point out in a literal way to the bible if we see that not only fundamentalists do so. And it is indeed funny. But also non fundamentalists derive their morals from the bible through literal interpretation and for some cherry picking

A man praying in a meeting of mostly Liberal Legislators. I wonder if a Christian would have been invited to muslim meeting to do the opening prayer? That would be nice to see that level of religious tolerance in a muslim majority country. However Christians in muslim majority countries cannot even be apart of the Islamic government. But I'm hopeful muslims are fair enough to give equal treatment just as they are afforded in a Liberal country

Just a few questions for AOC: Does your loyalty to Islam trump your loyalty to the U.S.? Do you believe the Quran is the word of Allah and do you follow the Quran and its teachings? Do you agree with Muhammad (Police be upon him) when he commands Muslims to make non-Muslims pay the jizya protection money to humiliate us if we won't join Islam and if we won't pay, to fight us? Also do you think it was okay for Muhammad (Police be upon him) to marry a 6- year old child and have sex with her at 9? Also is it okay for people now to marry 6 year Olds and have sex with 9 year Olds?
