As a life-long atheist I can tell you it’s only a horrific prospect only if you make it out to be in the theatre of your imagination. The end of your life is nothing to be afraid of. It’ll be exactly like it was before you were born. I’m betting you don’t have nightmares about the billions of years of this iteration of the universe that you weren’t around for before suddenly you were. Of course not. You probably don’t think about it at all. The same amount of anxiety should be given to one day being dead. Which is to say, none.

Sir, I know you are a devote Christian. However, you understand that abortion is an essential procedure when the woman has a miscarriage or the baby has died in the womb? Many people don't understand that or play ignorance. The conservative media presents the topic as some chick gets pregnant and doesn't want to have the baby, this is not always the case. If this happens she can die or be unable to have children if immediate medical treatment is not performed. In states with total bans, women wade through a sea of non-doctor politicians and people who have no knowledge of medicine or women's healthcare needs. Medical professionals take decades of training and studies to be proficient at their job, you don't just go to school for a few years and get a piece of paper and be declared a doctor. The restrictive laws people are promoting are causing serious harm to the women who do the heavy lifting of bringing life into the world. I understand that you are a Republican through doing my own research about you and that is your choice as people make their own choices. Influencers go beyond some podcaster, it can be a minister who hopes to gain political favors from certain politicians. This is not an indictment of you or anyone, but those in the church do exists. Can we agree about on that, Sir. You cover the issue of immigrants, the immigration laws and policies are intentionally broken by wealthy corporations and individuals on both sides. it's also essential to American agriculture to have cheap labor. If you pay American workers to do the same job, it would drive up the price of food, services or products. Immigrants are the invisible workforce that you can use, break and throw away, the hard truth. Sending them back to their country of origin and creating a burden for their families for decades and generations. This system is wrong, but is an accepted practice openly done since the 1950's in the US. Are you aware of this, Sir? I write to as a fellow Christian encouraging open, productive debate so we as a nation can address and do what is right based on facts and truth. I could go on about all your points you shared, but this post would be a mile long. Thanks You

But most of you Christians, cannot explain to another person WHY you believe, WHAT you believe, nor have you ever lead anyone else into a saving-relatilnship with Jesus Christ. If you really want to be THANKFUL to GOD, READ His Letters that He gave to all mankind. Very few Catholics have ever read the book of John. When you do, your life changes!!

Bishop Ricken, you are a wonderful shepherd for Jesus' flock in our diocese. But do you think you have adequately taken into account the unprecedented nature of this election? Never in our history has a president sought to retain power after losing an election. Further, an objective observer can only conclude that the former president is falsely claiming voter fraud again in this election, hedging his bets in case he loses. Unless they have given up on democracy, Catholics have no choice but to sit this one out. We will have normalized holding power without the consent of the governed and we may not like what happens when the other side does the same thing.

Elderly Aussie: Thank you Bishop for your wise words. I am a devout Catholic and I do not believe in abortion, but the men who say they will ban abortion think nothing of equating abortion with other forms of female healthcare, like giving care to a woman whose baby has died in the womb, or died as a result of ectopic pregnancy, or have a miscarriage which cannot be properly cleared without surgical intervention - yet we hear of women dying of sepsis because there are men who consider all those interventions to be an abortion, when is fact they are tragic circumstances where a women is entitled to and needs to receive help. Then you have men who think nothing of cheating on their wives, who rape little girls, who practice domestic violence on their wives and children. You also have men who think it of no consequence to separate children from their parents. You have men who think it is "law enforcement" to line up people who disagree with them and place them before a firing squad. You have men who believe it is best for your country to round up immigrants, be they legally American Citizens and deport them, knowing full well that such actions could well see those people being tortured and murdered. There are numerous other scenarios I could list. No one ever said it was easy to be a Catholic or Christian, but we know voting on one issue could well see the death of many more innocent people. Just remember, that Christ's teachings are Love and Forgiveness. Unless you walk in someone else's shoes, you cannot know what is in their heart. It is my belief that God would never abandon an aborted child - we are born in His image and likeness. Love one another as God loves You.

It's ridiculous. Stupid men sitting around planning how to destroy the Church. Listen to God. Let Him speak to you through grace in the sacraments. Jesus waits for you in the Eucharist at Mass. Go to confession and then receive Him. His Heart to yours.

Government should not tell women what to do with a body. You basically tell people to vote for trump so sad because he has a sad soul.
