What is Parental Alienation?
Parental alienation is a complex form of psychological child abuse that includes corrupting, exploiting, isolating, and terrorizing behaviors. Specialists Yvonne Parnell, William Bernet, John Wehrli, Shawn Wygant, Mark Roseman and Demosthenes Lorandos describe it in this interview as an insidious, underrecognized form of emotional abuse with devastating lifelong consequences if not properly identified and treated.
There is often confusion about the terminology: some define parental alienation as the condition where a child rejects a parent, focusing on the child's experience and the relationship with the rejected parent. Alienating behaviors, which are actions by the alienating parent intended to damage the child's relationship with the other parent, are considered the abusive component. These behaviors can be seen as child psychological abuse, particularly when they are severe and repetitive.
The five-factor model is commonly used to assess parental alienation, focusing on the child's behavior and the impact of alienating actions. In cases of severe alienation, the child's irrational rejection of a previously loved parent is viewed as a result of corrupting emotional abuse or brainwashing, and such behaviors can lead to significant psychological harm.
Moderate cases of alienation might be seen as neglect, where parents unknowingly cause loyalty conflicts in their children. Severe cases, however, are clear instances of child abuse, involving behaviors that terrorize and create loyalty conflicts, often stemming from the alienating parent's personality disorders or traits.
In the most extreme cases, removal of the child from the alienating parent may be necessary, similar to cases of physical or sexual abuse, to prevent further psychological harm and to allow the child to maintain a healthy relationship with both parents.

Thank You for an unusual and important video. Being an amateur in psychology, psychiatry etc, I still have a feeling that the prevalence of borderline PD (in the Cluster B sense) is underestimated in most, if not all, countries. These people rarely go to the doctor to find out what's wrong with them as they seem to believe that all their problems actually are due to other people's problems/behaviors & actions etc. The neuroscience aspect (down to cells and their complex intercommunication, including epigenetic mechanisms), as an integrated part and perhaps cause of the behaviors also seems worthy more attention. Too sad that Dr. Miller no longer is around - he would have been a valuable asset in the development of the understanding of this field.

"climate change deniers"?... no matter how much science you present, they won't change their minds? Ummm, do you mean the data of temperature reading stations that have been proven to be tampered with to fabricate the data? That "science"? That's fraud... not science. Environmentalism has become a religion to many and is not a science... or not an objective science that adheres to laws and principles that have historically been used to define "science". To ignore data like ... from the Sun (the largest heat producing object within a million miles) reaks of cognitive dissonance and pseudo-science. There is no objective or rational thought from the climate change crowd. They just repeat fraudulent and false data over and over until their minions repeat the lie as well. Then they attack opponents to misalign their character with adhominem attacks and other unscrupulous tactics. The emperor has no clothes with "global warming". The climate changes with seasons and Solar Storms. These same types of people ignore the data and science that the common flu disappeared statistically and covid numbers appeared ever so strangely in almost the same numerical proportions as the common flu disappeared. If it doesn't fit their religious and political agenda, they ignore it , but still claim it's good science. Rubbish. There's very good reason people don't believe the lies from the "experts"... because it doesn't add up. Use the brain that God gave you. Otherwise, I have some beach front property in the Sahara desert to sell you.

Forensic Science is not based on true mental health evaluation. They may be trained for court stuff, but should not be involved in parental alienation cases. It needs to be given to professional mental health people. Forensic Science becomes a part of the child abuse and spousal abuse. They are not trained mental health professionals.

Thank you so much for this video. It helped me beyond words. I was at an all time low with being the targeted parent. I felt as if the whole world saw me the way he made my daughters see me. I social isolated myself & stoped living. I walked through motions of life but not living life’s almost 4 yrs I think I was completely numb I didn’t feel anything but shame. I battle this daily. A lot times it’s 24/7 my mind rarely stops thinking of the whole mess. What it does to the children is beyond heart breaking. With me I hurt for them. I feel their pain I would do anything to take it away and place it on myself. Then as a targeted parent I’m feeling my own pain, hurt mentally exhausted m. The targeted parent carries a lot but the child whom is affected I cannot begin to imagine how their mind is and what they are thinking. My daughter now 28 is having such difficulty she still not accepting the PA she will say it’s always about yall you talk about him he outs you down, etc. I don’t say anything at all about him I suggest reading and videos . I want them to see for theirselves. My other daughter is 21 been alienated almost 6 yrs no contact. Right now my oldest daughter is in a mental rehab for 35 days because all things coming to a head and I believe she will realize a lot and begin questioning alot now. She’s so amazingly strong. In this video you described the ways, actions and words exactly as my daughter used them. The horrible words, actions she done you described a lot of. She said alone and did a lot worse. She has actually begged me twice to kill myself. I’m just now learning that what I thought was hate by her actually wasn’t. Since she was 7 real bad since she was 22 I thought was hate I knew he was turning her against me started when she 7. I’ve thought without doubt since she was 12 she hated me hated the sight of me. I’m so thankful that I’ve now learned it wasn’t at least I hope. I’ve learned that through educating my self and support groups. Bless your work and blessings you for helping keep shining the light making a way for these precious children.

There might be a very good reason that one parent is alienated. That parent might be abusive. It seems that mothers are often the ones who think the fathers are abusive, and those fathers counter with an accusation of alienation. I've read this is the common way things happen in family courts, and about 70% of the time, the fathers are favored. I know of a specific incident where a mother's warnings about the father were ignored and the judge, in his almighty wisdom ordered the little girl to spend time alone with her father. the father murdered her. This is a recent case - the little girl's name was Ellie Obi Lorenzo. Look it up.

Great info from this man. BTW, as a non-blood parent involved in a defacto parentage case vs the bio-mom (suffering from extreme menta health crisis and substance abuse) the alienation argument along with a host of other elements essential to win our rights to see the child again as we once had, will be strong and potent. Anytime a 'wholly compromised' mother says in court that suddenly the child in question is scared or doesn't want to see the people caring for him since infancy, while bio-mom herself has created all the chaos and fear events for everyone is someone admitting to coercion of a child. I truly do not see any problem with alienation when its proved overtly. If a judge fails to recognize it as evident and valid in a case then perhaps that judge should educate herself/himself in this aspect of toxic parenting. To those men and women suffering custody or defacto cases, I stand and support your efforts to win rights in order to save and protect the child's best interests to have a successful life. Peace and love and prayers to the judges especially who must rule on these awful matters. A'ho.

I have been researching for years to find hope for the situation that I have been put in with my children. Since divorcing my ex-husband in 2018, my children have been completely alienated from me. My son is now 21 and he told me the other day that his dad’s girlfriend (this is his dad’s 4th girlfriend in six years, that my ex has introduced to my children. And the ironic part is that they all look like me) has been more of a mother to him in the past two years than I have in his entire life. It’s beyond painful. As the child in this situation, the confabulation comes from my mother. She will turn around and straight up deny that she said something when I have her text in my phone saying it to me and she will go change her number just to say it wasn't her. She has had more cell phone numbers than I have had tooth brushes. She goes through them every few months because she makes some ridiculously bad statement in writing and then to "get rid" of her paper trail, she sells her old phone, buys a new one, and changes her number as if it deletes the texts received by other people. I don't think you should automatically assume confabulation on the child's part because in my situation, I have external evidence, physical proof, and recordings of what my mother has said and done and she will watch it and then try to claim it's a misinterpretation of what's happening in the recording. The problem with your clients might be that the parents are the ones confabulating and you're just believing the parent's narrative over the children because you don't want to accept the idea that a parent could harm their child in that way. I regret to inform you that there are monsters out there that will do unspeakable things to their children and you have to stop assuming children lie about the horrible things their parents do to them.

Wilhelm Reich wrote 3-4 lines about the motive in his 1945 version of "Character Analysis". Here is from the next edition (1949, page 521): ""The welfare of the child is always a spurious, and as the results show, unfulfilled motive. The real motive is to wreak revenge on the partner by depriving him or her of the pleasure of the child. Hence, in the fight for the child, one partner resorts to defamation of the other, whether he or she is healthy or sick. The absence of any consideration for the child is brought out by the fact that his love for the other parent is not taken into account. As means of alienating the child from one or the other parent, he is told that his mother or his father is an alcoholic or is mentally ill, a statement which usually does not correspond to the facts of the case. The result is that the child is the one who suffers most; the motive is revenge on the partner and domination of the child. Genuine love for the child is not an issue.""

What makes it alienation is that the courts are part of the problem.

I know my daughter is suffering mentally but her dad changed her doctor without telling me and we have 50 custody but do to his family in law enforcement and attorney and nothing I've done will help. She will suffer and it's his fault

@stacycobb815 I can't live like this. His family is the law, I have nobody, and the pain of missing her is unbearable and I know she's suffering but I have no money and attorneys here now and him and I get the hot mess mom thing, well, duh! I haven't had my babies in 4 years, so I'm beyond pissed off.

It's triggered my CPTSD and I stay home almost all day and still cry myself to sleep. He's starting to slip a bit because he told me because I am an alcohol, unstable, and got her sexually assaulted is why she doesn't want me, so I just talked to her and apologized for not being there to protect her from him and she said, I never said that Mom". I am just numb

Law enforcement role: making money for lawyers, social services, judges, psychologists and the whole corrupted Circus around It. Abuse the dad or mom alienated, try to make them separate from their kids and make them so desperate that they take their lives. Etc. Put them in prison. Fake reports. What else...oh just talking from personal experience in hell separation in lovely Sweden. 🤮
