I am Mexican and the artist I am most proud of is Thalia. It is a shame tho that she isn’t treasured by Mexicans as much as by foreigners. In Mexico there’s a “Malinchismo” problem which literally means treasuring, and appreciating things made from out of Mexico and people from outside the country as well. Thalia is a very complete and competent singer, quite a good performer as well. However, she doesn’t get the appreciation of Mexicans because of this Mexican issue we deal with within our nation. Malinchismo is like a cancer for our country as most Mexicans tend to acknowledge and recognize foreign singer, actors, actrices and celebrities in general way more than Mexican artists even when tons Mexican artist such as Thalia, Paulina Rubio, Eiza Gonzalez, Salma Hayek, etc have gotten international recognition they aren’t as big as Jlo and Shakira thanks to the lack of support of our whole country. To me she represents a lot and truly believe she’s a real pop icon not only in the Latino culture but also globally as she is well known in countries such as Russia, Japan, the Philippines and France.
