Kevin, thank you for your message. As you've noticed, I'm definitely 'faking it' with the pick, but I think it sounds reasonably good this way. I too could never get the fingerpicking down for this one. It just never seemed to work for me. But I love the tune, so I sort of figured out this workaround. Glad you liked it and I hope you're able to add this one to your repertoire soon.

Thank you. Yeah, that's a very fun run. I wish that I could honestly say that I get that right every time. I don't. I'm not really a lead guitar player at all, but I've been trying to pretend in little spurts from time to time.

I've never run into anyone famous (or more accurately, nobody famous has come over and said Hi), but I've met plenty of musicians and music industry types. Recently I was trying out a solo version of Welcome To The Boomtown on the beach and a guy walked over and said his wife worked with David Baerwald back in the day, and that he liked my version. It certainly is one of my favorite songs, and I spent a lot of time researching how best to play it. Obviously it would be better if I was playing it fingerstyle (the original way), but this version sounds great (to me), the chords seem right (to me), and I think it's not all that difficult. The guitar lick is very challenging and took a lot of practice just to be able to play it at all, and then you have to get so good at it that you're able to stop thinking about it so you can sing it. Keep practicing. The only way to get better at bar chords is just to do it over and over until your hand gets strong (or play an electric or a nylon string guitar). But trust me, your hand strength will get better and it will feel less awkward over time. Thank you for your very nice compliment.

Thank you very much. I was introduced to Colin Hay's version of this song and I just fell in love with it. For me, that version revealed what a great song it truly was (whereas for me, the Glen Campbell version buries the song in a dated production)

@@danielswierczynski2001 Crosby/Nash is an interesting suggestion. I guess I've always steered clear of their catalog because their harmonies are so essential to the songs. I hadn't considered a single-voice version to be enough. But I'll go back and listen through them and see if I can't find one that could work without the harmonies.
