I have a253 red block,it has no 253 casting in the side of the block,neoprene style rms,casting code of k188(October 18 1968). So it's really early in the program. Would this be a prototype engine? Also it has the 253h prefix.engine number of only 4 digits. Appreciate any info. I'm over listening to Sundays experts, cheers.

Sounds about normal, could do with a couple of degrees of timing

Anything will rev quick with only a flex plate, but I do agree that the 253 is indeed a beautiful underated engine

I have the same with a 308, neighbours love me.....

A blok at work offered me two 253 motor for fifty dollars meny years ago didn't have the money to spare still upsets me

I have a M21 behind a 5ltr WB 1Tonner. It keeps throwing 3rd gear out after gaining a few rev's, is it the scyro's ... my mate says it's adjustment, I have adjusted it with no joy.... synro's right ? Only does it in 3rd....🤔

I once had a smooth case holden 4 speed , the case was exactly the same except no ribs on it ! Ive had many many holden 4 speeds and never saw that before ! No it wasnt a saginaw ir muncie , it was a holden , i thought the case might have started out as a 3 speed , and someone stuffed 4 speed internals and output housing on it . I wish i still had a pic of it . I also had a factory HT V8 3 speed , it was 3 on the tree V8 box . But you are rite about the M22 , i had a HJ one tonner 202 4 speed M22 and 4.44 lsd sailsbury diff , 1 st was useless , even 2 nd only got you 30 kmh max .
