In April 2024, the Dominican Republic government took an immense step towards the conservation of its marine resources by declaring a new Marine Protected Area over the Beata Ridge. By achieving this success, the country secured the protection of 30% of its marine territory, a global goal decided by the world's nations during the UN Biodiversity Summit.
