How to make strawflower garlands as natural Christmas decorations with Bex Partridge
มุมมอง 50221 วันที่ผ่านมา
It has become a Christmas tradition in my house to fill every space with seedheads and glowing dried flowers. It’s the one time I’m allowed to go all out when it comes to bringing nature inside, and so I make the absolute most of it. Dried flowers can offer such incredible beauty during the darker winter months, and provide a hint of sparkle and joy in dark corners and cosy nooks. They also off...

A warming winter pot using cornus alba and cotoneaster from Jo Thompson
มุมมอง 710หลายเดือนก่อน
This glazed container needs only the simplest of components to inject a mood-boosting shot of colour to counter late autumn and winter’s grey skies. The early flowers and later berries of the cotoneasters make this not just a feast for the eyes but an invitation for both pollinators and birds to continue to visit. Even without flowers, the turning colours of the leaves provide drama, heightened...
Chop and drop | the deadheading technique chosen by the head gardener at Sissinghurst
มุมมอง 2.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
When most of us head out into the garden to do a spot of deadheading, we take a pair of our favourite secateurs and a bucket or trug in which to collect the spent flower heads with us. But nowadays, gardeners are choosing an easier and quicker method - just letting the spent flower heads to fall to the ground, covering the soil surface like confetti before they rot down into the soil. I love it! This is how I've always made wreaths. Although I don't always make a round. I sometimes use wire and make "tufts" then either string or wire the tufts together. It makes a backbone round very nicely. Then I tuck in natural things as I go. One side of my house has no windows and I'm thinking of making a few wreaths to hang there, maybe they'll be graced with lovely birds. Wow willow is expensive. I may have to forage for bits. Luckily I have lots of pines. 🐦🐦🐦
EMA is a godsend really. 😊
Great to hear you are using the Bokashi composting technique. I have been using this now for several years. First stage Bokashi bucket sits by the back door, and I empty kitchen food scraps into it, sprinkle a couple of scoops of micro-organism enhanced media, and then compact it down in successive layers. When full, I set the Bokashi bin aside for one month whilst I start filling a new bin. In about a months time the first stage of Bokashi composting/ food breakdown is about complete (remember to tap off the residue every-so-often - diluted 30-1 great as a outdoor plant food, or use neat as a biological enzyme drain cleaner!) Then I mix with soil and/or old spent compost and worms for the second stage composting. This latter stage I have found to take quite some time, certainly more than 6 months. The worms do help to speed up the process, and covering over with a layer of damp cardboard really encourages the worms. This I now also do in a container, helps with the process, and keep others (fellow Foxes, rats and field mice) at bay! The great thing about Bokashi composting is that you can put in veg/meat/bones cooked and uncooked leftovers, just avoid overdoing it with wheat and dairy based foods ie not too much bread/ flour, or cheese. Worms don't appreciate too much acid, ie Onion or citrus peelings, but after having put those through the initial one month Bokashi first stage, the worms were quite happy. Great thing also with this process is the much reduced odours also.
Looking forward to the whole documentary film .
Wow I love your style❤
Such a beautiful and peaceful garden
I LOVE hidden spaces. They give such a whimsical feel!
This channel is SO underrated 😖
Wow. It certainly brings out the wild and rugged look while still showing a cheery and colorful personality.
I really love the accent, it’s so pretty.

Is this in New Orleans? So pretty!
Nigel, please do another show as great as simple suppers or simple cooking again! Love the garden 🙂 God bless
Most if not all Aralias really sucker ,how does this one faiur?and how would it do in the Tropics if at all
A truly enchanting garden space, I felt so relaxed watching this. Nigel’s narration, as ever, so poetic, descriptive & oozing feeling. Thank you for sharing Nigel.
This is fab - I didn’t realise Gardens Illustrated had a TH-cam Chanel 😊❤
Can you cut bay leaves and rosemary in December without worrying about harming the plant?
Your essay has such a heart beat in it. Thank you for sharing your private world. You have put to words what I have instinctively felt and envisioned for my own outdoor world. What a gift you have, sir.
Absolutely lovely!! I love the designer's take of what he wanted for this garden.
I love you garden
Absolutely stunning ❤
❤Desde España se agradecería los subtitulos en español.
Beautiful tree! Also loved the brief appearance of the robin at 1:16 :)
Lovely tree and insightful talk by Brunsendorf.
Very lovely garden Mr Slater . Very nice indeed 👍
Lovely soft colours - the foxgloves and roses. Beautiful garden 🪴
Slugs love it tho!
Interesting to see the results you’re getting after such a short period. I’m not sure bokashi fermentation produces gases like methane and carbon dioxide - doesn’t it produce an organic acid? Seeing the worms and woodlice means that the tarp isn’t excluding all the oxygen.
Its a hybrid in this situation. Bokashi can be both anerobic and aerobic as they are facultative.
the nearly all aesthetics of English gardens i ever really got this, where do you get your food then? drive to a local supermarket ??
Shame you didn't really show us what you do. I thought bokashi was fermentation
Nice.
Outstanding video. Thank you for the information. DA
He could narrate audio books or a guided meditation… my heart rate slowed listening to this 😍
Interesting…though I am a great advocate of Cold Composting these past 20 years at Bealtaine Cottage!
Can someone please tell me where can i get those exact pair of glasses 🙏
It would be helpful for Nigel to define tge size of limited space. Thanks
