Playing around with rhasspy as well, what i figured is having rhasspy speech instead of whisper installed works at least somewhat better. But compared to Alexa its still quite a lackluster since it struggles with german speech syntax as it seems. Currently I am a bit frustrated since piper for german is rather bad and the speech recognition is suboptimal, even if i tend to get the lights working here and there. I will try to switch from german to english as i guess those models are better trained. Greetings from Mönchengladbach by the way.

It is unfortunate how slow matter rolls out. My Wiz bulb was initially connected to Home Assistant via Matter, but it started to have problems. Now I use native Wiz integration locally and it has never failed me. Regarding Zigbee, it is an interesting standard and has some tricks to show: for example, I have most of light switches (IKEA Zigbee) that operate ceiling lights (HUE and IKEA Zigbee bulbs) set to binding, so if coordinator goes down (Home Assistant goes down for ex) the direct binding keeps switch operating the lights. And I have spare Zigbee 8 zone remote bind to different bulbs to have override if needed. Also did a setup at my friends home where I set up 2 IKEA plugs and 2 IKEA switches to control them (one at the door and another at working desc) using binding (2 switches control 2 plugs at the same time) and after disconnecting the Zigbee router, the setup has been working well about 6 months or so.

I was confused on the ZigBee /matter options. I guess you need two different Sky Connect (ZBT-1) and enable one as Zigbee and one as openthread border router?

I've automated my blinds a couple of years ago. I didn't mention any driver and don't see any in the video. With the nema connected to a driver you just need to adjust voltage to get enough current for the torque you need to move the blind. In my case there was a spring to hold the blind in position. Check the A4988 and the drv8825.

Brilliant. I was hoping to use the switchbot integration to send ir commands as it works very well with Alexa but it doesn’t have an easy way of sending ir commands. This is much simpler. I’m going to add this to turn on screens on a Lutron Grafik eye. The only thing I need to do then is sense the power going to the lights.

I wonder if this will work for my gas meter. It has an analog dial like this on it. but its out in the weather and with the 120+ heat out here and the direct sun that will melt anything there, lol, i'll have to figure out how to protect it.

Please stop waving your hands all over the place. Really destracting on your video. and you cut videos and put together and your hands would just appear and disapear every few seconds during your entire video... ... and if you use Home Assistant right, you dont end up with errors all over with setups and changing configs... you just have to understand what you are doing and know what to do. I've been using HA as my home automation server running in a VMware VCF appliance on my vCenter cluster for nearly 5 years now. I migrated to HA from Smartthings. I now have a 4000 sqft house with 50+ zwave switches, 30+ Zigbee devices (sensors, buttons, appliances, etc...), and an untold ammount of wifi IoT devices (including my vehicle and my wifes vehicles in Home Assistant). I've been using the original install I did 5 years ago and upgraded everything since then, and there has been SO MANY changes, its insane. Never failed an update or crashed or had to rebuild or fix an issue. Also, while you are doing things, a better explinantion of what you are doing and why would be nice. not sure if this video is just to say "hey look at me, look what I got" or a tutorial video. One thing I've found that I HATE about docker.... When you run the docker compose and run your app, if the underlaying phycial server reboots or anything, the app running under the docker container is RESET to zero, day one. so you would loose all historical data and configs for your entire setup.

Personally, I want to invest in a local LLM (smart enough to understand the untrained user/family) with something like respeaker lite built into every room of the house and move apps and dashboards for admin type tasks (me).

hahaha now I am sure. The videos all feel as the uncanny valley because the voice is either dubbed or just too much manipulated in post. we do not hear the voice we are looking at.

These videos are intriguing. I never hear any word said. There is something of. I think it is re-recording of voice or maybe it is AI voice. Or maybe the whole video is AI or AI remixed. in anyway it is totally uncanny. I wish the channel maker would tell what it really is. What I am sure of is that w are not watching/hearing what we think it is. It is totally in the uncanny valley. Or maybe the guy is autistic and that causes the uncanny valley but I doubt that is it. Some people are suggesting the hand movement are the of thing I am convinced it is not that. Maybe the movements in combination with moments of breathing and the lack of variation in sound not fitting the movement. It is very interesting even though I now watched 3 videos of this channel and never one word of the story got into me. I have no idea what he is talking about because my focus immediately shifts away to why it feels strange :) very interesting :)

somehow your movements and the sound of your voice do not match but I cannot point my finger on it. Did you re-record voice and you are just very good at lip syncing? mm maybe I found it. I see strange image jittering. Maybe a re-record of the sound then auto synched to the old sound resulting in the image jittering because the new voice recording is leading and to keep it sync the system had to take frames out. How close am I? The comments are about your hands but that is not it. Something is of and people are very sensitive to that. It is called the uncanny valley.

I label my cube with printed labels. One side controls the play/pause/stop/start and volume of my stereo system via a Universal Remote integration. Another side wakes a different computer based on motion,;a third side plays a selection of audio streams: BBC, Radio Zodiac, PlexAmp, etc; andI still have 5 more sides for automations. There's really no limit.

Interesting method. Could be used on loads of different things. Thankfully in the UK the water meters (at least around me) broadcast the meter reading so that they can be read remotely. I just used a cheap usb radio tuner and a raspberry pi zero to receive the broadcast, and post to MQTT for home assistant to read.
