This film from the Tullow, Co. Carlow area in Ireland shows harvest time in the mid 1960s, where blue skies seemed to have occurred more often. In the beginning of the film we see Massey Ferguson tanker (which is now the conventional method) combines in operation in a field of Barley along the Rathoe Road out of Tullow. Some of this produce was then delivered to the Green in Tullow (in what is ...

From what this forum heard (confirmations are welcome) over the years, a number of the people marching in this film were veterans of the rising. St. Patrick's GAA club which at the time formed the b...

Footage showing sugar beet being harvested by a machine adapted by Thomas Flynn (Tom) of Flynn's Garage (Tullow) Ltd., in Tullow Co. Carlow Ireland. Sugar beet harvesting was part of the agricultural scene in the Co. Carlow area until 2006. For many years since the industry's inception in the 1920s, it was deemed quite complex to harvest the crop until the 1960s, making large scale farming quit...

The Nissan Leaf Electric Car Prototype being tested on the R725 Carlow to Tullow road in Co. Carlow Ireland. The first mass-produced electric car ever on Irish roads, being tested for Irish conditions. The silence & acceleration of this car is noteworthy. When launched in February 2011, this car will have no road tax. Incidentally Carlow was one of the few counties in Ireland afforded the prive...

Back in the days when the price of a tonne of grain could actually pay bills. An 80/100 acre harvest in those days could set a family up a year, would be hard pressed to give one person a living wage today.
That’s my great great something uncle!!!! Thank you for letting me see his monument
60 years since I heard this song,my Da use to sing it.
I see Fr Hogan there also. He was in Ballon . Wonder where is he now. A long time ago! Many now passed on! Sad!
I see Tommy Kirwan there. Went to school with him in the late fifties.
Any idea who owns this footage and how to contact them ? kotf1916@gmail.com
very interesting video, the technology of that machine didn't change much until they stopped production in 2006. (apart from the machines getting bigger)
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Inn_s_Quay/Synnot_Place/26528/ This is my Great grandfather ... ive only found out today as a cousin living in the UK has done extensive research regarding Thomas . Mary aged 8 Thomas and Elizabeths daughter in the census attached is my Grandmother, who is survived my Christine ( my mother ) , sons Sean Garland (who also followed in his Grandfathers Footsteps) and Jimmy. They have little recollection of Thomas, and are able to tell us what they can recall about him. If there are any living relativities of Thomas would you contact me @ gerardtalbot@gmail.com. Christine has vague memories of Elizabeth and recalls that all of Thomas children were told that he had gone to America.
