Sugar Glider Barking - What does it Mean?
มุมมอง 28K12 ปีที่แล้ว
The "cheep" sound that looks and feels like a "bark" can mean a couple of things - pay attention, come here, be careful. Try practicing your own version of your sugar glider's bark and bark back !
Bonding with Sugar Gliders - 3 Most Important Hints
มุมมอง 20K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Younger sugar gliders bond easier than older ones. Gliders have different personalities and that will affect how long bonding takes and the best way to approach them. And most importantly is you and your attitude - remain calm. If you are nervous or excited the gliders will sense this and often interpret it as a reason to be afraid. Relax and stay calm - you're an awfully big, scary kind of tre...
Sugar Glider Bonding - First Change Your Mindset and Language
มุมมอง 6K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Please understand what you might call "aggressive" or "mean" behavior from a sugar glider is simply the glider showing FEAR. They don't "hate" you, they're scared of you. Respond to this defensive glider behavior like you would to your own children - with compassion and patience.
Proper Cage Size for Young and Older Sugar Gliders is Same - Large
มุมมอง 4.8K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Some companies spin a story about getting a small "starter cage" for joeys so they will bond more easily with you. Not true, but helps sell cages. Start your glider babies off in a full size cage, you will save money and your gliders will be happier, more active, and fun to watch.
Male or Female? Sex and Personality in Sugar Gliders
มุมมอง 7K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Male sugar gliders tend to be more outgoing and playful; female gliders are shy but real "cuddlers". Choosing a female and neutered male will give you the best of both worlds: two different personalities, plus you won't have to worry about breeding, and the cage area will have less animal odor.
Sugar Gliders Need to Live with Other Sugar Gliders
มุมมอง 3.8K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Sugar Gliders are colony animals, meaning their nature is to interact with others of their kind. Single gliders kept alone often will get depressed and may self-mutilate or engage in other negative behavior. If you have a single sugar glider, please honor the nature of the animal and bring in another glider to live with the lonely one.
Sugar Gliders Pet Experience versus Breeding
มุมมอง 6K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Things you need to know if you intend on letting your sugar gliders breed: neutering, marking, male odor, in-breeding issues.
Do Sugar Gliders Need Vet Visits?
มุมมอง 2.4K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Sugar Gliders do not need "shots" but you should take them to a vet for an annual checkup. This also helps the vet understand what is "normal" for your sugar glider and will help a lot if the glider gets sick and must go to the vet. Call vets that specialize in birds, they can usually tell you which vets in the area could see sugar gliders. Line up a vet before you buy a sugar glider.
Is Shipping Sugar Gliders Safe?
มุมมอง 1.7K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Shipping live animals is heavily regulated and there are a lot of safety standards that are enforced. When prepared and scheduled properly, sleeping through a plane trip is often less stressful for gliders than a long ride in a car.
What does having a "USDA License" Really Mean?
มุมมอง 2.4K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Many Sugar Glider breeders have USDA licenses, but that doesn't mean they are "good" breeders. Lots of bad drivers have a driver's license. The USDA license represents a minimum standard for breeders over a certain size, it's not a guarantee of quality or professionalism.
Sugar Gliders are Not a Pet for Kids, takes the Family
มุมมอง 5K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Don't get a sugar glider "for your kids", because they live as along as a dog and need considerable care. When the kids grow up and go to high school, will they have the time to take care of a glider? Best to think of owning a sugar glider as a family commitment, 'cause Mom & Dad will probably end up caring for the sugar glider at some point. If that is not going to work, get your kid a hamster...
Ask your Sugar Glider Breeder about their Health Guarantee
มุมมอง 1.1K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Reputable sugar glider breeders will offer a guarantee on animal health. Make sure you ask for details from the breeder, and remember, the health of your glider depends a lot on you!
Finding Reliable Information on Sugar Gliders
มุมมอง 2K12 ปีที่แล้ว
The biggest sellers of sugar gliders - who operate a dozen web sites and sell gliders in shopping malls - do not even raise the animals. If you want the most reliable information on sugar gliders, seek out the major message boards, where people who actually raise gliders discuss glider care.
Are Sugar Gliders the Right Pet for You?

Are Sugar Gliders the Right Pet for You?
If pet shop has only one. Not getting another.. do i take her?
Should I overload the cage what’s most important
❤
I’ve taken mine out and he runs all over
I have had elvis for three months just purchased second because of you ty ❤
How do you know when there ready to be handled
I exactly replicated my sugar glider gypsie’s bark just so I can bark back at her and now my mother asks me too bark at people too have them know what their barking sounds like. I actually sound exactly like her so good too know all this about their barking.
That is awesome!
@@lisabordelon4003 not really it’s just squeaky barking….
Oof. I'd rather ride with someone who has a license than someone who doesn't. If someone doesnt have a license, they either were too lazy to get one, or had it taken away for some reason. Lastly, but most importantly, it is illegal to drive without a liscense. If anything, this argument proves that you have somewhat of a standing to be able to drive, as opposed to zero liscence to drive. I'm convinced now to get a glider from a USDA license.
I agree with you, I only encourage people to consider that license doesn't guarantee good husbandry. Finding someone licensed and trusting your own good senses on making the decision on where to buy is ideal. If something seems off to you with the breeder you're speaking to, trust that and find a breeder that you feel really good about.
Mine last one is a boy his two sisters died from a seizure im currently trying to play with him feed him and let him drink to feel comfortable
How do ship? What is the process?
I no longer breed sugar gliders, so no more shipping. Now I just offer supplies, do education and community outreach. If you need to contact a breeder that ships, give me a call. I can help you out.
I re ran the video cuz one of my sugar gliders were borking
Do you sel gliders
My sugar gliders i have 2 are frightened and keep barking
That was a perfect impression lol !!
This isn’t necessarily true at all, you don’t need the support of your parents to care for a sugar glider. If a responsible reasonable kid wants one for all the right reasons they should go ahead. If a parent buys one when their kids don’t really know how to take care of one then there is a problem. As long as they can function, age doesn’t matter but maturity does.
I agree that maturity matters and i know adults that are immature and irresponsible. Did you watch the whole video? I'm simply asking that as a young person, you consider what happens when you go to college, or take trips. Your life is just beginning and this is a very long term responsibility. It is helpful to have support so that you can do things best for you as you grow and mature (even more). Smart young people are offered a lot of opportunities. It would be a bad break for either you or the sugar gliders (yes pairs are best for their sake) if you missed out on amazing opportunities because of the responsibility of having sugar gliders. Having solid support affords you to partake in amazing and events so that the sugar gliders don't end up getting neglected or re-homed as you partake in all of the awesome things that will come your way.
Why!!!!!
But I know a lot about animals.so I can't have one:(
Sounds about right to me. Good advice.
Hi! I'm very interested in the spinwheel! We have recently adopted 2 gliders, 6mth old female and nuterted 2yrold male. My boyfriend has lots of experience with gliders in the past. One of his females even had babies. This is my first time owning gliders and I love your short, sweet and to the point videos! Our male, whom we call "Joey" 😁 is very inquisitive and loves to get down on the floor to sniff and find things, especially under our couch!! When I saw the video about your wheel the light bulb went off! THAT'S WHAT JOEY NEEDS!! 😂 Our baby female is very shy; which I can't blame her because we are her 3rd home! Yes! Sad, but true. I know patience is key but are there any other tips you could give to help us with bonding? I put a tank top I slept in in their pouch so they could get familiar with my smell and I give them mill worms for snacks at 6 am and when I come home from work. I also talk with them regularly as does my daughter who loves them dearly. She also knows to be calm and talk softly when around them. Any extra info would be greatly appreciated!! 😗
I got my sugar glider as a baby a year ago and it's still not wanting to bond with me. I'm trying everything
when a glider barks just bark back lmfao x
i have my sugar glider for almost 4 years now his name is bobby and i love him and he so healthy and i rescued him from a familly that never game him attention and kept in the smallest cage i have ever seen i love my sugar glider i first got when i was ten it took alot of begging and im 14 now and bobby is 4 years old
I just got mine two days ago and she is so nice I put my hand in the cage and just lay it flat and then she starts to sniff if I try not to move my hand
I did have 4 sugar gliders the first one was sick when I got her she lasted 7 days her name was Victoria. Then one the same day I got my 2nd one she lasted 2 years her name was Olivia she loved me and I would go out side and put her On The round and then we will p she will Chase me like we were playing tag. Then she got sick and died. Then I got 2 more new ones one named Joey and one named Rex. Joey was the nice one but he still wanted to bite me. Rex was the mean one the first day we got him he bet my dad and their was blood. So about a year went by Rex was starting to not let Joey eat and I took Joey out so he can eat and he started to exporting my room and my cat was there so I had to put him back in his cage then about a mouth later Joey died of starvation when I was at my dad's house 😭😢😥 I still have Rex and it's been a about 6 months after Joey died and Rex still hates me. Can y'all give me any tips to get him to love me? sorry, this is a long story.

I have had my babies for 2 yrs and couldn't love anything more, but the more I read the more confused I get. I have 5 babies and 2 Congo cages with a bridge between the two. My babies won't eat pellets at all. I have crushed them soaked them with everything. Do they really need them? I am haven't with staple foods. Any suggestions? Thank you
I'm 13 and I have male twin sugar gliders.
I've got your vitamins, the blueberry kind, and I gotta tell you, my girls love it. love love love it. thank you
I am a new sugar glider owner and I am so glad to have found your website and this channel. Thanks for the great information and for sharing other good websites.
Thanks Becky. Welcome to the family. I'll be doing a lot more TH-cam videos soon, so thank you for subscribing!
Sounds great, can't wait to see them. In the mean time I will be watching all your other videos.
What is your website so I can order
Thanks so much!!! I've been trying to decide which gender I should get for a long time now, most people don't get to the point and don't really tell me much info. You get straight to the point and tell the differences.
Where are you all located?
do u have new babies
Hi Lisa, You look great! Thanks so much for the explanation on barking. Only Glossy barks and I never know what she wants. After a treat she will bark and now I know she is wanting me to come back with more! Silica is really laid back (eats all the treats in the glider kitchens because she is the alfa glider here!) and rarely barks. I think in the middle of the night Glossy barks to ask Sili to play with her. I will brush up on my bark because I can never figure out how to make her stop...she will go on forever! Thank you! Hugs to Arnold and the gang!
I desperately need your help, my little Harley Quinn is pregnant, and I need to know absolutely everything to ensure the safety of her, her young, and also the male. Please contact me Jayhemphill1@yahoo.com
Also wanted to add... that its very interesting to see the maturity level of these kids bragging about their pets. Thats GREAT you are fortunate to own these animals. Dont be smug about it! You just look rude and foolish the way you talk to your peers. Had you been smart enough to retain the information in this video youd realize shes not lumping everyone under the same sun here
You people are ridiculous. What shes saying is true. People buy animals for their children and they leave the sole caring of that animal on that child. If you are prepared to buy your kid an animal knowing that youll end up caring for it yourself then awesome. But dont go buy them these animals and then when they lose interest up and sell them. NO NO NO. With that being said I own many many exotics. My 6 year old has the 2 main sugar gliders from the snow white line from Priscilla price. Amazing animals she loves them. But who cares for them? Mommy does. Thats just the reality of it. So do not tell her that she is wrong. Just because whats true for you isnt this scenario. Its true for many many other people. And this is why we see so many animals being rehomed.
I'm 13 and I have 2 sugar gliders, but I did my research and earned the money MYSELF. I didn't rely on my parents for ANY of the expenses and now I have two happy and healthy sugar gliders with a good diet. I agree that parents don't understand the commitment when they buy them for kids, but I also don't think it's fair to say that no kids can handle sugar gliders.
Did you change the wodent wheel?
No Im sorry I meant did you change your use of the wodent wheel due to the several issues with it? But after posting this I see you made a video stating you still use them ect
It's been a little over a week that I have had my Sugar Gliders. One is quite calm and quite and doesn't fuss much. The other grabs whenever I open the bonding pouch. I know I may have to work with the one that fusses more. What are some good ways that I can get both of them t bond to me effectively? I understand patience is key here. The cupping method I find hard because my hands are really small, and when ever I go to hold them, they escape my grasp. Any suggestions?
I suggest bonding pouches. Then you can put your hand in the pouch so that each glider gets your scent and gets used to being touched.
I have bonding pouch :) Since this comment she has gotten a lot closer to me. She doesn't much like the bonding pouch, but she does like sleeping on my chest or in my hoodie pocket :3
Hi Lisa, I haven't talked to you in years. My two originals were from you & after 3 years, we thought they weren't compatible but we were wrong. I had called you about it years ago & as always it was great advice & their new homes keep the boys & girls separated. I still have 1 original, Osiris but he is 12 & showing it :(. I love that your on here & hope people wanting gliders find you. I love my babies bark & they do all stop, even those in separate cages. Lol Can't wait to see more videos & best of luck helping glider parents/parents to be. You really helped me!
Hi Tabitha, Nice to hear from you. I do have a long list of new videos we hope to start producing soon. Thanks so much for stopping in and saying hello!
don't say things if there not true
A male and a femal is a good pair but I don't want joeys lol
Neutered males are a great option. I personally like the male personalities better (generally, not always) and when neutered, they don't get musky, they don't pee on you as much, and they tend to be more outgoing and interactive. Both sexes make great pets, this is just my personal opinion.
I'm 14 I work at pet smart, I have 3 dogs, a hamster.... And I am getting a sugar glider... And if u don't know your facts don't say it all.... People are diffrent my cusin he had 10 animals at the age of 14 now he's 15 with 33
I've stated clearly in my video that people are different and some teenagers more responsible than adults when it comes to animals. I appreciate your viewpoint, but I've been raising sugar gliders longer than you've been alive and see that most kids (not all kids) lose interest in their pets when they get to high school and college. There is nothing wrong with having a life as a young person, I actually encourage that. And please know, I do not see all people as the same just as I do not see all sugar gliders as the same.
Where in Florida are you located
We are no longer in FL. We have relocated to TX just south of Houston.
We agree and we thank you for sharing your comment.
Please do get him a companion as soon as you can. There really are not any situations where it's "too late" and only rare situations that some gliders never learn to play well with others. How old is he? Concerning the licking, then biting, generally this means he is tasting you. Might sound odd, but try hand feeding him some treats, he might be looking to you for a snack and if you don't provide it, you become the snack. LOL
That is a great question and as social as sugar gliders are, they are territorial, so there is a process to it all. Check out this link for a lot of details concerning how that process is handled and what to look for: sugar-gliders. com/sugar-glider-info.htm#in
Can you do videos on other noises they make? i love your videos by the way :)
While I don't embrace many techniques suggested by that vet, I will agree that anything with a face can bite and scared animals will bite if they feel they need to defend themselves. I think we gain more respect from animals through gentleness and kindness. For example, I never used choke collars on my dogs when they were going through training. I think the harsh approaches are inhumane.
Right
Skin contact is preferable, but you can use a glove until you get there. I suggest buying a new pair of gloves, made of heavy cotton (not leather as it has a strong smell). Sleep on them, or keep them inside of your clothing so the outside of the gloves start to smell more like you.
