Badge Hunting Demonstration - Item Hog (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Switch))

Quick and simple demonstration video on how to hunt for more copies of an Item Hog badge in TTYD. Works identically on both versions.
Item Hog is found as a drop-only Badge from Dark Koopatrols (Only Pit Floors 72 and 77 as primary encounters), Dry Bones in the Palace of Shadow and Dull Bones in Hooktail's Castle. The last of which is definitely the simplest to grind.
I've included two different methods in this video, one of which gets six Dull Bones encounters in ~4m and one of which gets 2 Dull Bones encounters in ~1m and thus is technically slightly more efficient at the cost of needing to reset the game more often.
For the former method, definitely clear the castle of any non-Dull Bones encounters first so you don't have to avoid them while grinding. Remember, only the first enemy in the battle (the one in the field) matters for random drops so avoid all of those and clear all the others then save at the top of the castle.
For the other method, just save near the bottom with the two encounters on the left intact and go wild.
The specific math and probability for Item Hogs is as follows:
The weight for an Item Hog in its drop table is 1. And the probability for it dropping is Weight / 300 + (All drop table weights combined)
Dull Bones' drop table weights sum to (5 + 5 + 5 + 10 + 10 + 2 + 1) = 38, so the chance for an Item Hog drop is 1 / 338.
That *is*, when the game decides to give you a random from a leading Dull Bones encounter in the first place, the odds of which (with no Item Hog equipped) are only 25%. In other words the actual probability of getting an Item Hog out of any single encounter shown here is 1 / 338 * 25 / 100 = 1 / 1352.
Having Dazzle's Item Hog equipped increases the odds of the game even picking from the random drop pool to 33% and thus increases the total odds to 1 / 338 * 33 / 100 = 1 / 1014. Reciving an additional Item Hog from this grind and equipping it looking for another one would increase the chance to 37.5% for a random drop at the same chance of 1 / 338 for the correct drop, or approximately 1 / 901 in total.

Nah, you're spot on. Trying to estimate how much time you've spent doing the DS navi fights to make sure you get Bass is annoying. No way to tell if you've gone over until the end. You can just save before starting all 6, but god forbid you die to any of them.
Ptobably one of the Best Bosses from the Fangame! The Battle is Hilarious! And His Dialogue Change if You use the Translator Cheat.
Working my way through the series in game order rather than your actual play order. Having a blast, this series is a favorite of mine. And of course this game (though Blue Moon and not Red Sun) was my first. I played all 3 playthroughs and got the souls and beat Bass, but I could never bring myself to get to Black Earth. Seeing this run shows me it can be pretty exhausting.

Any particular reason why no E Slash? I thought it might be for the challenge, but then I saw BassGS is on the table.
@@YozoraHeart I have a personal vendetta against it because it's ridiculously powerful (800 against elemental Bosses) and because the input is really hard for me. I've rarely been able to pull it off, eventually I just stopped using it out of spite. It's such a meta chip for the speedrun.

How and why is Miss Moon following you?
It's one of 555 unlockable plushies in the game. You can equip them and set them to follow you. There is no gameplay effect, purely visual.
I have no idea what this is and why the hell Sailor Moon is present but I love it!

Nice job. I used carrier flagship + spectre (I think) on this map which made me realize how great flagship is. Also at 13:00 you should've placed the alchemist so that only the apache was in range. That way youll have the buff active more often on it.

Come to think of it… all the second-to-last tier bosses have an animal theme to them. Punch _Donkey_ is obvious. MAGMML2 had Butter Nezumi, a mouse with cow colors, and MAGMML had Justice Man, who had an eagle design on his helmet and some actual eagle-themed attacks in 1R.
Decoy Man has layers. Not just metaphorically.

It's gotten to a point where I don't really see it anymore. Sometimes I completely forget it's there. I know some people that prefer to run without, but it's never hindered me.
That fourth token took me about ten times as long to get as this run did to finish. I think the identity man token took me less time to get.

Bravo! I'm still kinda mystified that only two people have managed to perfect run (or even no-damage) my stage (that the leaderboards caught, anyway) thus far, since my stage was not supposed to be _that_ difficult to perfect run, though admittedly perfect-running it _fast_ is a bit of a challenge. I had tested my own stage, and was able to pass each segment of it (screen transition to screen transition, including the boss) at least once without taking damage, though stringing all those together into a single run was also another matter (not helped by my lack of general skill at Mega Man). A couple of notes, in response to your comments in the description: - The overhead bombs thrown by Emperor Pepe aren't thrown to "set" positions; they depend on the player's positioning. But as long as you don't stand in the _very_ back of the room from him you should have a spot to retreat to, since the further-thrown bomb lands around where Mega Man is. - Blue Bomber Man's triple bomb also depends on player positioning; the closer Mega Man is, the shorter the distance he throws it and the less it spreads out. Try to move away from BBM as he throws the triple. I will say that your run here is _very_ impressive indeed, and shows a good deal of skill that I am very far from matching myself as a player. Wishing you well in the future!

Y'know when i brought up the rush coil strat i actually meant taking spike damage by dismounting passing through the gap and met with s. Thats what i did, but it can be tough. So this is a neat consistent strat. Congrats again on the record.

Parallel Weapons can be enabled as disabled as desired. I like some of the parallel variants, but not all.
