Guides Day Off in Idaho - Technical Dry Fly Fishing to big Cutthroat
Started the day off fishing some really technical flat water with Chris looking for rising trout. Had a great morning of dry fly fishing then loaded up the whole crew to try and catch some Kokanee Salmon. Finishing the day off with Tyler catching some big rainbows for a good evening float. Guiding is busy lifestyle this time of year with most days starting early and ending late. So with very few days off we try to make the best of those days and enjoy time with great friends.

Blue Ridge, GA public water hike-in spot and we found some giants! Sight fishing in gin clear water!
มุมมอง 81K3 ปีที่แล้ว
We set off on a spur of the moment trip to hike into some public water we were wanting to hit. We had a plan to walk some of the higher banks for a good vantage and peer off into some of the long clear slicks and tailouts of some deep the deeper pools and runs we knew about. As we began our journey we found what we were looking for. We knew it was going to take some sneaky tactics so we tied lo...
Epic Snow Day Adventure in Blue Ridge with KC-Outfitters

Snow was in the forecast but wasn't calling for much. As we begin our day in Blue Ridge the snow begins to fall and it gets heavier and heavier, at one point they were huge feather-like flakes creating an almost magical scene. Cold hands and frozen rods we kept going and it certainly ended up paying off. Follow along to see what happens!
Blue Ridge Georgia Giant Public Water Brown - KC-Outfitters Fly Fishing
มุมมอง 6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Fishing public water can be tough the fish experience high levels of pressure and become very difficult if not at times seemingly impossible to catch. With some sneaky tactics and putting ourself in the right place at the right time we were able to make it happen. Watch as Grant hooks into and lands what would be considered by most to be a fish of a lifetime, especially North Georgia standards ...

    For all the gullible people the only way for you to catch fish like this is pay for a guide to take you to their private waters where they stock these giants and maintain them. Fish like these are EXTINCT in public waters

    Good lookin' fishies there! Judging by the way y'all are dressed for cooler weather I was wondering whether this was on, or near, the DH portion of the Toccoa. Those are mighty big trout for public waters unless it's near the DH section where DNR stocks some really nice trout from Nov to May.

    I've fished so much public water in Georgia and never have I caught anything wild over 16 inches. Litteraly have been in the north Georgia Mountains atleast twice a month over the last 2 years. Fished the easy spots and fished tons of spots where you hike over a mountain with no trail and push through the thickest rhododendron. These are some incredible fish. Never tell anyone the spot. I certainly haven't found it yet so keep it secret.

      With a guide service is the only way I have caught large rainbows- 20 to 30 inches. Learned a lot as well.

    • @markhaven5638
      @markhaven5638 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because wild rainbows never exceed 15 inches in Georgia, And 15 would be a once in a lifetime fish for a wild rainbow. Wild browns are a different story.

    • @philliphutcheson4219
      @philliphutcheson4219 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah this is super easy to figure out. These are fish that swam up from private waters to spawn in the public section of streams ABOVE the private waters. They have kamloops genetics in there as a local private hatchery in suches that has been stocking the private streams here for 40+yrs. That’s a long time to help get those genetics established and doing their natural spawning run. Either way, couldn’t tell you if those are wild or stocked fish as NOBODY does genetic testing to verify that sadly.

    • @philliphutcheson4219
      @philliphutcheson4219 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markhaven5638yep, you get it. It takes a lot of work to catch a 20+in brown here in Georgia. Doesn’t matter if it’s a tailwater fish or a freestone stream.

    • @markhaven5638
      @markhaven5638 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philliphutcheson4219 two streams come to mind. One tailwater and one freestone. I've never been close in GA but I make an annual trip to the Smokies and I usually catch a 15inch plus brown up there and more often than not it's on a dry fly. And that's a trophy for me.

    • @kcoutfittersblueridge4510
      @kcoutfittersblueridge4510 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually in the fall/winter we like to run pretty small nymphs like 18-20 pheasant tails for blue wing imitations or midge patterns in the same size range. Your tippet size will be equally as important i would stay in the 5x-6x range and longer leaders. 10-12 stonefly would be a good option as well.

    Are these areas catch and release only? I’m a C&R fly fisher from the west and these fish are super impressive! I probably sound pretentious but I thought I was going to have to kiss these types of fish goodbye. Most of what I research has just been people harvesting as many fish as possible. Awesome video. Thanks for giving me hope haha.
