DIY Frost Free Hydrant Install Part 3: Completing This Very Important Infrastructure Project!
I am super excited to have this garden infrastructure project finished. I no longer have to hand carry water from the inside of my house out to my garden and greenhouse during those cold winter months.

30 Day Salad Mix Challenge Finale
มุมมอง 5628 วันที่ผ่านมา
This was a very exciting indoor gardening project! I put these salad mix seeds to the test and I was blown away by their results! This "Mesclun" sweet salad mix of seeds packaged by the Burpee Seed Company for 2022 had an excellent germination rate. The salad leaves were sweet and tender with just a hint of spice from the tender mustard greens. This particular salad mix seed packet contains 20%...
Worm Composting Day 44
มุมมอง 45หลายเดือนก่อน
Day 44 (December 2, 2024) of my worm composting experience with my Vermi-Hut worm composting system. I am very interested to see how my red wiggler worms reacted to the cucumber peels I placed in their Vermi-Hut bin. I am also curious to see how well they are adjusting to the winter-like temperatures this week.

Yippee ❤Water in the winter ❄️❄️
I know! I’m a happy gardener right now!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yeah we’ll just go with the Purple Heart 😂
Wow, what a cool car! And the worms look great 👍
Worm Farm!!!❤
you should do a full walk around of the Model A exterior and interior
Great job! I know you’re excited to get that thing done before the hard freeze comes!
Those grew great!! Good job!! But stay away from those seed oils!! Seed oils are high in omega-6 fatty acids, which cause inflammation which contribute to things like arthritis, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Plus they’ll make you fat.
😲😳😳😳😳😳
It's "Cut & Come Again" salad leaves 🍃 Sounds like it's fresh and crunchy Good and healthy ❤Peggy❤
what was the measurement from the tub to the bottom of the fireplace? Thanks
Oh boy! I'm breathless 😮
i won't be able to sleep tonight, thanks a lot :)
I have zero desire to claw thru things with that tool for very long! I dump the trays upsidedown into concrete tub and reload with a bit of a fluff & snoop. I always bury food but the bins are in my basement that only gets heat from woodstove that has ductwork sending most of heat up into the house. I should stick a thermometer down by the bin to see what temp is! 12 degree outside night temp currently... brrr! I see more worms than you seemed to see this check in (est. about 300 went in so far) now have 4 trays stacked with one on the bottom just bedding. I stockpiled leaves & grass clippings for bedding to add with shredder material. (I didn't follow directions very well I guess!) I had worms hanging out of the bottom of the trays at all layers and even a small clump down in the bottom where they aren't supposed to like it this morning? I put a little pile of bedding from the tray above hoping it makes it easier for them to make better choices and go back up :) Now too heavy to lift more than 2 trays at a time.
Good morning Matt, Watched completely 👌 It's cold for you out in the garage and cold for the worms 🪱 They will be a Slow Dance for the next few months. Less breeding, also. Good check in❤ ❤Peggy❤
Thanks Peggy!!! You are always a great source of knowledge and inspiration for me to draw upon.
Do this require ventilation?
Absolutely love these! -N
Me too!
1st they are not roots! They are part of the leaf stem the roots are white and will come out of the shell 5 to 7 days later
Thank you.
Where did you get your sprouting tray?
Hi Peggy! I purchased the sprouting tray from the Park Seed Company 10 or more years ago. I don't believe they carry them anymore. The sprouting tray I bought from them was from "Flora-Frey".
Oh wow ❤They will be Sweet 🍊🍊🍊
Awesome video, very interesting
Glad you enjoyed it.👍
@ my pleasure
Cool!
Thanks!👍
Probably should have cut you botching the doorjamb trim.
Excellent ❤
Thanks 😊
I love this video, Matt. I'd love to try sprouting. If you don't eat the roots...🪱❤️🪱the worms will ❤PeggyHelblingsGardenWhatYouveGot7920 ❤
That’s an excellent idea Peggy! Thank you for the suggestion to feed them to my worms.
hello. the tiles in your shower that is on the wall did you grout it or did you use a silicone tube. I am not sure how to describe it. I am confused on the two.
Veggie peels ❤🪱❤️yummy 😋
Oo....almost time to pull out your salad dressing 🥗❤🥗
I can almost taste it now Peggy!😋
Watching Patrick @Vermicompost-Learn by Doing is an excellent source of knowledge 👌 and he's fun to watch ❤Peggy❤
Hi Matt, Your worms are both Guy and Gal. They breathe through their skin and light equals heat usually. They avoid light so their skin doesn't dry out. Dry skin means a quick death. Good video and your worms look wonderful ❤ ❤Peggy❤ Watched completely 👌
Good to know! Thanks Peggy!
What if you have to move it over 2 or so studs?
Excellent question! Fortunately, I had enough wiring to move from one stud to the next stud. If I had to move my light switch over multiple studs, then I would have had to pull the wire coming from my power source down into my crawlspace and install a junction box where I would tie in a new wire to carry the power to the location where the new switch would be installed in the wall and then reroute the wire from the light to the new location of the light switch. If the existing wire is not long enough to reach the location of the new switch, then I would be forced to run a wire from the light to the new switch location. With the situation you are describing, it might be best to consult with a professional electrician.
How ya like them apples?
Beautiful Orchard 🍎🍈🍎🍏🍎
I wouldn't be using aluminum containers to grow plants in because of the uptake of aluminum by the plants which you will be eating. Great idea to have fresh food during winter. I would be interested in more information about the grow lights. Thank you.
Good point!
Good job 👏 Happy Election Day ❤🇺🇸❤
Good morning, Matt, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b 🇺🇸 Patience ❤🪱❤️ This is only Day 9 ❤Peggy❤
Just a couple minutes to improve your health and life... or a cpuple days or weeks of sickness and pain the choice is simple as you've shown and are proving! -N
Hi Matt, Greetings from Windermere, Florida zone 9b 🇺🇸 I love your Grow room project. I'm going to keep up with your 30 day progress 🥬 ❤Peggy❤
I have fed my little composting miracle workers everything. And I mean everything. All kinds of fruit (including citrus), all kinds of veg (including onions), cereals, grains, pastries, bread, oily leftovers, eggs, AND meat. There's nothing they haven't devoured yet and they just keep having more babies and produce the most beautiful, rich compost! They are unstoppable. ❤❤❤
Rice will get warm as it's breaking down. Decomposition gets warm. You added just the right amount 👍👍👍
Thanks for the tip! So, I’m guessing rice is a cold weather food for worms.
Rice is a great addition ❤🪱🪱❤
Great Job! Glad to see you gittin it done!!
Thanks Rob! Me too!!!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Tim! Will do!
Good morning, Matt ❤ I watched completely and enjoyed thoroughly ❤Peggy❤
Thanks Peggy!
I knew exactly what you were talking about 😂
Best of luck, sure it’ll turn out great!🎉
Thanks! I’ve got my fingers crossed. 🤞
It's funny this popped up on my feed. I'm fixing to do the same thing here in a couple of days. Only thing is, I think those worms walmart sells are Euro Nightcrawlers because on the wormville site, it says "scientific name: esenia hortensis". Either way, I'm still doing it, this motivated me more. Subbed for the journey.
That's awesome! Thanks for watching my video and for sharing what you discovered about the worms from Walmart.
I only saw a video or two of a people using that fiber mat up under the lid. I was afraid it would attract worms up into the cover. Some were using it as first layer bedding. The booklet that came with the system doesn't say what to do with it/ that I've found yet. Many threw mat aside along with the directions :) Page 7 says to use the inner plastic liner as a cover alone for the first few days and then to put it in place... nothing about the mat. One video seemed to say some of the stuff included was from version 1.0 and things were changed at some point. Their website hasn't been updated in years so wondering if it's even still active. Many links google came up with were "not found". I'm trying to leave it alone for a week now that they seem settled - none turning up in the bottom since day 1. I swear it was the same one 3 times so I called it by my youngest daughter's name and said "get back in bed!" *The worm seems to have listened better than she did :)
Ha! ha! Thank you Laurie for sharing your experiences with me!!!! I am looking forward to having you as my travelling partner on this worm composting journey!
The particles are Worm Castings 💩and any particles that got pulled along. Isn't it amazing to see how active they are when you aren't watching! Banana peels are slow food and strawberry 🍓 is a faster food. The leaves are food, also. Good job, Matt, you are doing a perfect job. Moisture, food and sweetness 😋...you'll have happy, healthy worms 🪱 Don't forget a little eggshell powder when you feed ❤Peggy❤
Thanks Peggy! I so... appreciate having you as my worm composting mentor.
Nice job, Matt. We don't have that problem here in Windermere, Florida zone 9b. Rick was an irrigation tech for several years and would appreciate your digging that trench.👍
Thanks Peggy!
Nice job, Matt ❤
Thanks!
