I have finally acquired my own Yoggoth Map. I have a question about gates on the Green Pyramid. A gate on a Green Pyramid area only gives one extra power in the Gather Power Phase. I don't feel that is enough incentive to build there considering the scale of the risk! Would it be better if a gate in the Green area give one Power in Gather Power Phase and 1 extra Doom in the Doom Phase (essentially giving two Doom per gate in the Green area (Will probably only just give 1 Doom in Annihilation Rituals as this might get abused by Opener). What do you think? Has this concept already been tested in early development?
Every player has to spend at least 1 power point performing an action when it is their turn. Sleeper doesnt have to do that. Just lethargy when it is their turn. A power point saved is a powerpoint earned.
it's really cool seeing how the rules worked when the game was first proposed. Sounds like Sleeper was a much scarier battalion originally, what with being able to DfB formless spawn right from the beginning.
@@KrytenKoro From a gameplay perspective I am glad they did that. Without Ancient Sorcery, the serpent men would have no good use, they would be just bad monsters that cost 2 and have only combat 1. Honestly, even with the spellbook, to me they are just a tax you need to pay before you start to get the formless spawns for free via Death from Below, if you think about it, Sleeper would be a better faction if it only had two or just one serpent man on the pool. Also, consider Energy Nexus is SO powerful, you always want those two wizards making you a god in two different areas. I wish Sleeper had 3 wizards and not 2 :´(
Yellow Sign is one of my favorite factions, but I have an unpopular opinion about them. They feel like a predictable machine that is easily beat, especially if ganged up on. I know every faction will be stumped once they're thwarted, but they're not as predictable as the Yellow Sign. This faction is restricted to rules that make it odd compared to the rest. Does anyone have any way to make me see them differently?
So are you telling me that if i grab the evolve spell book, i can spend power to initiate combat between cultists that have 0 dice to roll it still counts as battle an i can upgrade with the spell book........ Thats kind of scary. ._. The opener looks so fun to play
+RyukLuvApples This video was before a big rule change he made. You now have to have a combat of at least 1 in the area you want to declare battle in. So in this case, you'll need to summon a mutant first. Battling with only cultists and then promoting was proving to be too powerful.
Sandy says Windwalker needs to march to the other starting area to get his spellbook, but can't Windwalker just awaken Rhan Tegoth in the other starting location, then recruit a cultist to build a gate there? I'd assume that would always be the preferred method since you need to awaken Rhan Tegoth anyway.
Actually, it'd probably be a situation like Yellow Sign, where no one messes with your cultists, forcing you to actually walk them across the map rather than recruiting new ones.
He's the Blind Idiot God or the Nuclear Chaos. You don't, I repeat, DON'T say his name! You can type it, you can write it, you can mouth it, but don't say it out loud.
For Mother Hydra's special power, does she force cultists to go to [an] adjacent area, or adjacent area(s)? Also, is it all cultists, or enemy cultists? (~13min)
I am going to miss hearing Sandy discuss what is, and is not, sucky. I have few laugh out loud moments on TH-cam, but he can always get me chuckling: "Yig has a combat of 2! Sounds sucky, doesn't it? Well... it's not.'
Frankly guys, the game looks and plays awesome, but you should really put more work in your video editing (both in term of video quality and effects)...was it to tedious to let Sandy clear its throat and to do a reshoot of the video ? I love your work but these sloppy (but really informative) videos don't do it justice in my humble opinion.
I really enjoyed playing this map during my trip to Texas in January of this year. If you love "tug-of-war" gaming sessions... This is the map for you! Why? As gates are locked down, every player is pushed closer and closer to the center. Struggles to maintain gates and power forces "ALL" players to fight for limited resources. The more players you have the greater the battles will become. It's a wonderfully balanced map with a lot of replay value. Definitely pick it up to enhance your gaming sessions!
Even without map exclusive monsters it would still be crazy to see where this map would go if you included some or all of the neutral monsters/Great Old Ones.
You really want to pick only a handful of Independent Monsters/Great Old Ones for each game session. 1) Their associated costs in Power/Doom points is designed to limit acquisitions. 2) Each factions units are carefully balanced so that "map clutter" doesn't become a problem. Otherwise, you are free to let loose all kinds of nastiness!
robertsog That was the general idea. I meant really just having them all available to choose from when playing this map. Playing the game I wouldn't take any more additional units then what I felt that I needed. Plus I have a buddy who likes playing games with as many expansions as one can play with at once.
Stoltzy92 Oh I know what you meant. Any of the Independent Expansions will make this map a lot more fun. I really push "Azathoth" for this map due to the additional spell books. "Stars Are Right", "Umr at-Tawil", "Recriminations", "Shriveling", "The Mao Ceremony", and "Undimensioned" can really save your bacon as the map becomes smaller. Each one gives you so much flexibility on top of your own faction's spell books. But any of expansions will make this map even more fun, diverse, and increase its replay value.
Stoltzy92 I am in total agreement. I've made statements on www.boardgamegeek.com Cthulhu Wars forums about the ramifications of the "Recriminations" spell book. In the hands of Opener of the Way and Sleeper it can totally decimate other factions. Once you've used Opener's "Dragon Ascending and Descending" spell books, use "Recriminations" to discard them for new abilities. Sleeper follows along the same path. In the early game you can use "Energy Nexus" to swap out spell books before battle is initiated. You may have "Capture Monster" but need "Demand Sacrifice" instead! Wizard + "Energy Nexus" fixes this. All of the "Azathoth" spell books add so much value to your play sessions. And they create brand new strategies and dynamics regardless of your faction. Pick up the "Primeval Map Expansion" and the "Azathoth Faction Expansion" today! You will love both I promise you!
Rules questions: 1) Since Yog can start anywhere at all, what happens if Yog starts in a non-glacier zone? Does it get a glacier because all starting zone gates get a glacier, or does it not get a glacier because it's not in a glacier zone? I imagine the former, but it seems worth asking. 2) Do glaciers prevent people from building gates if they're placed in a zone that doesn't have a gate yet, or do the glaciers just prevent people from occupying gates once the gates exist? 3) Glaciers have no effect on unit movement or placement, right? Just on gates?
I agree, this map seems like it will encourage a big melee in the central area. It will be interesting to see how different factions cope with that situation!
It's a blood bath in all areas without the "Glacial" markers. As each round progresses you are forced closer and closer to the center. This eventually culminates in World War III. No one is safe and everything is up for grabs. Now if you really want to add some spice to this... Bring the Independent Great Old One "Gobogeg" into play on this map. He grants an instant refund of 6 power to "ALL" factions Great Old Ones immediately after they are summoned. When he is killed or pained, all units in the area, including friendlies, suffer the same fate.
It seems this map will be brutal. The only thing I would prefer different is the color palette. The three maps look quite aesthetically similar to the eye.
This map is "EXTREMELY" brutal during mid-to-late game. And as I've already stated, the more players you have the more battles you will encounter. Resources are at a premium here. So maintaining and gathering new ones will be critical to your survival. The "Azathoth" spell books can help to mitigate some of these costs. From the "Mao Ceremony" to "Recriminations". They will add a lot of bang for your buck. And all players will be competing for their added bonuses here. So if you haven't picked up the Azathoth expansion yet... This is a great reason to do so!

Is it necessary to have a unit in the battle zone for cannivalism? And is this the currently rules for hibernate?
I’m still a bit confused on the use of lethargy

also interesting that Wizards were the Ancient Sorcerers, make a lot more sense thematically. I wonder why y'all changed that?
@@KrytenKoro From a gameplay perspective I am glad they did that. Without Ancient Sorcery, the serpent men would have no good use, they would be just bad monsters that cost 2 and have only combat 1. Your head a-splode.
At first I was not a great fan of the colors used on the expansion maps but now I just love them!
He's the Blind Idiot God or the Nuclear Chaos. You don't, I repeat, DON'T say his name! You can type it, you can write it, you can mouth it, but don't say it out loud.
We're all doomed!
What happens when you say his name
Keith Stewart Jr Each time you say his name you place a seed of chaos in this world.
+Trypticon According to what source?
Claus Appel I'm forbidden to speak it's name.
DON'T. SAY. THE. NAME.
Gobogeg sounds like fun. Great design.

All cultists
I have it stop watching these videos, I'm to excited with anticipation!

Great job on the game! Can't wait for your next creation.
No, you just need to eliminate 2 cultists
The spellbook requirement is to eliminated 2 cultist in 2 area? Must be 2 area?
No, any cultist in any area
Love the "bad guy" move at 4.25 - #priceless
Awesome game, and a really effective use of Necrophagy!
discussion here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1175522/dreamlands-video-going-up-soon
like if you came here due to the J-Lo interview
Does this beyond one power require that the monster take a gate or can they just move?
God... I want all of these expansions, sadly I don't have a consistent enough game group to play all this stuff.

This video really helps demonstrate how the neutral factions work. Cool stuff!

robertsog Recriminations has to be my favored spellbook of the Azathoth Spellbooks. If there is one thing I value in my strategies, it is flexibility.
