Conservation Travel Africa are a small, ethical travel organisation focusing on matching high-quality volunteers to high-quality projects. Our projects focus on endangered species conservation, small animal care, anti-poaching and wildlife training courses, wildlife research and marine conservation.
Our projects offer intimate, personal experiences, where volunteers are immersed in the host organisation and play a key role in meeting their wildlife conservation goals. Intensive Anti-Poaching Training Course, South Africa
This course is not for the faint-hearted. Founded in 1992 this course was one of the first of its kind in Africa dedicated to the training of wildlife security personnel. Today the group supplies rangers to more than 30 wildlife reserves in South Africa.
Upon completion of a 6 week training course, non-South African citizens will be recruited as volunteer rangers and sent to support two-man teams in Big 5 reserves. As a volunteer ranger, you will be a third set of eyes and ears on the ground, getting involved with active anti-poaching patrols alongside armed anti-poaching scouts.
The training course covers wildlife and human tracking, weapons training, night operations, security planning and arrest procedures. Fitness, discipline and mental strength are required every step of the way, as well as the ability to live and work as a team.
