I can't wait for my mesquite tree to get to that height. My tree's only around 1.5 years old and the branches are quite low. Rabbits keep destroying the branches by eating the leaves too and it's annoying me.

I bought some Texas Honey "Thornless" Mistique Tree seeds on-line. I don't like thorns and saw these for sale after an on-line search.

Interesting tree. I will see if I can grow it where I live in northwest Louisiana where we can have some long below freezing days in winter and scorching 110 F temperatures in summer. I did enjoy your video and we'll go back and watch your others. Thanks for taking the time and God bless you.

This might be a dumb question, but do we just edge the weeds and then add more rock? Or should we dig deeper into the ground and then add a thicker layer of rock?

You cant prevent weeds without basically sterilizing the soil and turning ur lawn into a bubble. The “weeds” in yourbyard most of the time at just pioneer plants, which are extra resilient bc they are designed to fill in empty space (bare dirt & monoculture lawn) to ensure the survival of a the landscape. They are also prepping for the next step in succession which are just bigger “weeds”. Plants are naturally SUPER resilient. And birds, along with the wind & basically any other animal that walks are constantly spreading their seeds everywhere. Spraying forever chemicals or weeding on ur hands and knees every two days is the only effective way to keep weeds down. People should just learn to live with the “weeds”. Fighting them is not worth it and also its bad for the environment (even if you aren’t spraying). They are literally just doing their job.

Finally at all the videos I watched yours was the best to my predicament. Tired of greets growing back I was actually thinking of putting a bunch of smaller pebbles and then big River rocks or lava stones on top of that. But you're saying basically just put 4 to 5 inches of rock no matter what to prevent weeds. Now it's June 29, 2024 and I don't know if you'll see this comment. But if you have any other suggestions I will check back to see if you commented thank you

Sweetie, the reason for the difference is the light that can penetrate in between the little rocks ! Put a thick tarp first then the rocks !

Chinese elms have been experiencing some difficulties. They are not that easy to maintain longterm compared to some other trees. When they do eventually perish, they seem to go relatively quick. It is a lovely tree, though

ive learned to love these trees. love the odd trunk formation on some varieties. plus great firewood.

Do you fertilize? If so how and when. Also have you considered adding some mycorrhiza for symbiosis nitrogen fixation in the roots? Thanks

Cole Hauser's twin brother? I'm about to plant some Prosopis chilensis, thornless cross mesquite trees. I was able to gather some seed pods from some that the city planted as ornamentals. They are pretty much the best of all worlds, fast growing, extremely drought tolerant, hardy, strong branches, and NO Thorns! I'm sure you can find some thornless if you look around the city xeriscape.

Bruh!!!, I feel to dumb. Every Winter and Spring I'm pulling weeds that grow in my Rocks Garden, and it's turned into a full time chore as i literally have to pull weeds every Sunday morning. And Looking outside your correct. All the Weed growth is where its only 1-2" deep in rock.

So 3 yrs ago you added extra rocks and 2 yrs ago weeds grew in? I saw your video where you added extra rock. Was it only to certain areas at the time? You laid down the irrigation first?

I saw a guy in another video use a blower to keep the rock garden clean of leaves and dirt, I’m guessing that would help to prevent weeds from germinating.

Beautiful tree,mine is over 30 years old about 2 stories tall thornless variety, here in Vegas,almost lost it last year due to a Mesquite Borer infestation,dumped alot of systemic insecticide lost half the tree before I realized what it was.
