Anyone else find it completely insane that they just reburied the body? Like there are a handful of well-preserved ancient human bodies in the entire world, many of them discovered after this one, you'd think someone would recognize the massive potential for scientific discovery down the road with improved technology and found a goddamn freezer

If he was fighting on horseback and was hit in the head with a club or mace (which in the Medieval times, were common weapons to fight with on horseback), causing him to fall from his horse, then that would explain both his jaw injury and his broken ribs injury. Even today, falling from horseback can easily cause broken bones injuries and it is hard to imagine that a knight of his status would not have been on horseback.

Misleading title, but interesting story. I would have liked to see more about the excavation and autopsy footage and less about how this guy is considered a hero for killing innocent people. The things men do in the name of religion are absolutely disgusting.

Thank you for this interesting introduction to the world of the mysterious Cathars. I highly recommend a tour of the Cathar regions, having live there based near Albi, a town I know well, for many years. Carcassonne, the most famous monument between Bordeaux & Monte Carlo is a place you will never forget, more so if you take a meal in the place central from one of the many reasonably priced good restaurants. This splendid city which I've painted several times has been visited by numerous famous people including as diverse as Mark Twain, Winston Churchill, Bernard Cornwell and Mick Jagger. Montsegur is another story, representing the end of southern independence. The Catholic Church was very intolerant of any other point of view that their own whereas the regional people were very tolerant. The Crusaders saw rich lands and booty as rewards for their crusade. Visiting Montsegur starts with a steep climb not for the faint hearted. The view is very spectacular. However I and some others felt a strong sense of great sadness within the walls of Montsegur. Still, well worth your time, ideally during fair weather.

If I could do my life over I would want to be the person who examine the skeletal remains in those museums. I watch a lot of these documentaries and was lucky enough to see some remains (or copies of them? It was at Stonehenge and I can’t quite remember if the remains were the real deal, knot that it matters.) and I got to see the Catacombs in Paris, so it added to my fascination. Ah, I’ll have to settle for these docs.

Christianity is a vile, violent and hateful belief system. Just the history of the crusades alone proves this, little alone all the hate, sexism, racism, xenophobia and homophobia in their holy book, the bible. All 3 middle eastern based religions are this way. No thank you.

Ooohhh pleeeease. Just don't with the crap about how the borderlands were turbulent and violent on both sides, or how "raiding and conflict were facts of life for the people on either side." If England had left Scotland alone to govern itself, there would not have been the amount of issues there were, at the border or anywhere else. I love English revisionist history. I suppose that Ireland had a "potato famine" too, and that it was not a holocaust caused by England only allowing the Irish people to *keep* potatoes to feed their own. There was plenty of food on Ireland, TYVM. It just never *stayed* with the people working to grow it. This is as much BS as that the Native Americans were treated well by the English (to begin with), and then the American people, post the US Revolution.

What a wonderful find. The only problems I had was that the coffin was open without taking any type of precautions to the body and to the people involved. The documents were handled without wearing gloves. Our hands touch to many things and can cause for that important piece of history to deteriorate. I think everyone involved was very irresponsible when handling everything involved with that excavation. It is still amazing how well preserved his body was. I would love to know what language was the letter written in.

Boudica killed between 70,000 to 100,000 men, women and children in Colchester, St. Albans and London, If she had won, they would have massacred all the soldiers then all the 100,000's of Romans left in the province. She would show no mercy, so she had no right to expect mercy. Remember English and Scottish Historians situational ethics are unethical.
