Pt.2 Building McLAREN MP4/4 1988 Scale Model | Bodywork | 1/24
In this video, I have completed the full build of the Meng McLaren MP4/4 1988. Despite some decals having blurry prints and the absence of the Marlboro logo decal, this 1/24 scale model kit remains outstanding. This is my first time building a Hasegawa model kit. The small parts are well crafted and nicely made. However, the plastic of the body is very thin and all the panel lines are extremely shallow. Depends on which car as Senna had a spare car which he had to use first race MP4/4 after gear lever break and photos show lighter colour carbon on nose ect......on one of the cars..

Looking very good,and a VERY GOOD paintwork and masking you did on that body. But is the red not a bit to dark. I got the 1-12 Meng and i have bought then the Zero paint Marlboro McLaren red for it. Although i do like this darker red more than what i got TBH:

Everything is from the kit, no detail-up sets were used.
brilliant model .. just wondered .. after you apply the tamiya powder to the exhaust,do you just leave it or do you use something to seal the powder so it doesnt get accidentaly wiped off ? :)
I didn't seal the powder, so I just have to be careful not to touch it again.

Are you painting it according to the instructions? Just wondering what color for the orange and for the wheels please? Very happy they made a 1/24 version
Not exactly, I replaced the gloss black in the instructions with dark iron, all other paint colors I used are mentioned in the subtitles.

Wow. What a great build ! Can't wait to see part 2. And I wonder why the manufacturer of the decals used brown instead of dark grey. On the real car, which I have seen with my own eyes, there are no brown parts. It's very dark grey with a hint of oker, the color of Kevlar.

Thanks, I'm not sure why the manufacturer used brown decals either. Maybe it's just to highlight the color of Kevlar.
The model looks great as it is, now. Absolutely true. When it comes to F1 models, I am a stickler for details. If they would have used dark oker instead of brown, it would be more accurate. But the best thing you can do right now is to leave it as it is. You have build a beautiful model!!
To whom it might concern: it took me a while to figure out the correct color for these cars. I build F1 models, too. McLaren red is a 50-50 mix of RAL 2007 fluo orange and RAL 3026 fluo red. I used Revell paints and made a few test mixes in various ratios, and compared it to the real cars. If you mix Revell 25 fluo orange and Revell 332, in a ratio of 50%-50%, you will get the exact correct color. I put my test strip on the real cars and this mix was spot-on !!
