A Caffeinated Conversation On Succeeding In Music
Layto: Dropping Out Of College, Creating Core Creative Team, TikTok Triumphs, and alternative psycho
On this episode of Grounds For Success, which also happens to be our last episode for season 1, we have the artist Layto!
From almost becoming an English major with dreams of law school to successfully strumming his way into the music industry-this episode is packed with a real-world story of how surrounding yourself with the right team can change everything for you as a creative. Layto generously pulls back the curtain on his journey, sharing insights into his early creativity, his life-changing decision to become a full-time musician and a hilarious story that led to his first manager (who has since been replaced by Garrett Ream)
Both Layto and I delve into our experiences working with individuals who've had pivotal roles in our creative journeys, as well as how important the power of perseverance and hard work can be for your career. We will learn about Layto's album "alternative psycho," an album I mixed and mastered, and the rest of the team who worked on it, including my friend Inverness who executive produced the album, and my friend Brandyn Burnette, who wrote and sang on several of the songs.
Lastly, Layto shares how he tapped into the power of content creation, using platforms like TikTok to gain exposure, and how a single song opened the doors to thousands of TH-cam views and unprecedented opportunities. In the world of music, success is far from guaranteed. Layto's story shows, that with self-belief, the right team, and a touch of serendipity, it's possible.

Great interview! ❤
Krewella’s success feel so personal as a Pakistani. We in Pakistan/India discovered krewella a bit late, after they featured in CokeStudio and we are hooked to their music ever since. Zer0 dropped after that created waves in the subcontinent as they integrated more of their Pakistani roots in their music. They are probably the only Pakistani/American artists who own their culture and never fear showing it be it their videos, their concerts. Love to see them spreading the positive side of Pakistan. ❤ Love krewella and miss them!
I cried watching this episode. I love Yasmine and Jahan & Krewella definitely have changed my life in so many ways. ❤❤
See
When I used to watch their shows I always was like how do thay manage that
Attack attack?
I'm so tired of intros for podcats....just get to it! Why did you sit there and talk about what your gonna talk about? That's just dumb....
What a great episode! So inspiring
So glad you loved the episode!
This Podcast is kinda a Cut Rate Version of the Podcast The Iced Coffee Hour, Same concept but it's still cool though
If i'm not mistaken, that podcast doesn't have anything to do with the music industry, or isn't a music industry specialty podcast, right?
Wow thank you so much for this deep dive interview, I've always been a fan of ISS and always wondered where their authenticity and passion came from because that is what attracts me to their music. Raw, real, and authentic just like this interview. I've read a few books on music engineering because I wanted to learn WHY do I like the music I like? I am also a student at UCB and really am interested in the neurological angle of music. Doing so made me have a newfound appreciation for the topics you hit in this interview such as the constant listening to artists that inspire us, will always keep listening to this band as long as they keep putting out records. It's almost a need or a craving to keep listening.
I'm so glad you found this podcast! Keep going with audio engineering!
Coheed and chiodos 😍
Yassss
I'm his biggest fan and I'm not arguing about it.
I will argue with you. I am!
Love this episode, Devin is HIM, hands down
He absolutely is HIM
Breathe is an amazing song. I'm glad I know the backstory now. When's the real Collab?
Such a great song!
Even if it's tragic, I really got ABSORBED when Caroline explained the death of Tristan ! Very good at story telling I also liked the idea of the «outlier», I believe this is accurate Plus, the fact that she got crazy opportunities in 2020 and the necklace story made me think about something I lived too this year, wearing a special necklace, leading to crazy opportunities (there is no coincidence !!) Inspirational
Her story telling and ability to be vulnerable are second to none!
Niki is the ONLY TH-camr that I can listen for hoursssss she’s soooo well spoken ❤
Insanely well spoken!
I feel like this is the most underrated channel on TH-cam. This podcast is great!! I'm a big Galantis fan btw!
So glad you enjoyed this episode! Luckily, after the airing of this, I started working with Galantis as well. I worked on "Dream Team" and other things for the future!
What was the band he was trying to think of?!
What is the time stamp and I will ask him!
Wow this interview literally gave me so much insight into Caroline's life and background. I had no idea the kind of things she's been through, and hearing her talk about all of this makes me respect her and love her even more than I did before. 🖤🖤 God bless her and I can't wait to see what's coming next ❤🖤🖤
Thanks so much for listening!
Big for me *as someone with a higher pitched voice* that he talked about his own experience being someone with that higher pitch range!! 🤘🤘 Ty for sharing this!!
Im so glad you got to hear this interview!
Enjoy the crisis. 🖤
WATTT
freakin enjoyed that a super lot. top notch musical content. I feel like they just keep getting better and better. 😍😍😍One request. React to Dark by October Ends 😍
I’m so glad you liked the interview and that you love the ISS guys!
Is damage done anywhere near as good as most of the songs on treehouse? No. Did they write such a ridiculously catchy song that I've replayed damage done a bunch anyway? Absolutely.
I’m glad you like the track!
I feel uncomfortably comfortable getting to know Devin through this interview. It feels so sad to hear about a broken childhood, watching him shaking and getting nervous a couple of times during recreation of his past. 🫂On the other hand he seems to be mentally strong and open-minded when it comes to learning new stuff which is great for his own evolution as a musician. It looks like he is the person that could be a real friend no matter the time or the situation.☺️ P.S. This was a hell of an interview 🙃
I’m so glad you found this interview. Devin is the real deal. He opened up about so much with me and I’m glad he showed his vulnerable side to us all :)
Extremely under-rated podcast you've got going here. I hope your channel gets the attention it deserves! New sub from NZ
Thank you so much! We’re starting up very soon on the next season!
I lov ISS
Same!
i love her
She’s the best!
This is super dope guys! Amazing story
Thanks for watching!
Wow he's so sexy like I don't think I've ever heard him talk his voice is so damn deep for someone who sings as high as Kellin Quinn lol and that's a compliment because he's an awesome vocalist as well
Hahaha, yes, without a doubt Devin is a sexy dude and great vocalist!
Thank you for this podcast ❤
You're so welcome!
True artist this lady 🔥
Absolutely!
Hunter i love this
It's really special, right?
@@GroundsForSuccess yes
We want Noah Sebastian next episode 😁😁
I keep hearing this haha. I will try!
That would be great! Anyone from bad omens would be sweet.... nick f, nick r, and jolly would be awesome too... we hear mostly about noah and folio but never hear from nick or jolly. Sending love to all ❤ awesome work with the interview above ❤ good vibes and success to you, Devin and I see stars. 🎉
Such a great episode. Very interesting and inspiring. Jack is a great actor and sounds like he is a great person who will continue to make waves in the world. You as well did great. Great job to you both.
Thanks so much! Yes, I love Jack and his commitment to his craft. It was awesome to hear his words of wisdom as well.
Big Falling in Reverse fan, obviously wasn’t fond of them for some time 😂 got into them a few years back & im stoked they’re back
<3
@@GroundsForSuccess great interview boss, looking forward to the next!
Thanks so much! @@shawnhussain7713
This was awesome! Hope you get to chat with Noah or any of the Bad Omens guys some day.
Yeah, I'd love to get Noah on at some point. I'll try and make that happen for you!
God that man Is SOO beautiful. Soo talented. His shYbeast side project is even amazing.
He's beautiful and a lovely human and he's my boyfriend. Don't make me fight you for him!
@@GroundsForSuccess those are literally fighting words. Would definitely be worth the fight. 😂😉
He’s my new unattainable crush 😅
Mi esposo 😂❤
Mine!
This is awesome thanks for the interview
Thanks for watching! What was your favorite part of the talk?
I was at that show with DRUGS and BVB (bvb had to cancel in SLC) but that was a defining moment for me in deciding to pursue music.
Incredible! I'm sure Devin would love to hear that he was a part in that for you! What was your favorite part of this talk?
Messed up how they refused to talk about the best member of the band. They talked about how when you lose one member’s input, the band loses something that brought fans to them in the first place. The best example of that being Zach, and why Treehouse is their worst album. Devin is ridiculously gifted, but Zach’s unique and amazing screams are what really made the band. With him gone, they will never be as great as they were. Put some respect on his name.
I respect your point of view here. Thanks for listening to the podcast. I'd like to say though, that Devin didn't refuse to talk about Zach, I just didn't ask about him because truthfully I didn't know that someone wasn't in the band any longer. I host my podcast without doing significant research so that I can have an organic conversation with my guest and allow it to flow in whichever way it goes.
Such a great podcast.. I mean.. very heartwarming and calming experience. Always been a big fan of Devin, thank you for that ! 🤘🏻💜
I'm so glad that you loved it! What is your favorite song of ISS?
@@GroundsForSuccess I love “What this means to me” & “3D” , I’m all about the “MySpace Era” haha
I have a safe little space in my mind for all of the incredible music I found on myspace. What a time to be alive.@@xtheyan
I saw ISS last week live in Montreal, and today I found this interview. The band literally blew my brains out with their performance, and Devin blew my brains out with his mindset and the way he expresses himself. That was a great interview, I loved your questions and how cozy it felt, even for the listener. The band definitely has a new fan now, and I’ll keep on watching your interviews, they’re really insightful! ❤
I'm so glad you loved the show and the talk I had with Devin on the podcast! The aim is definitely to make the guest and listener feel cozy so that they feel like having a deep conversation with me. I'm glad it felt that way to you!
ahhh i missed krewella. nice to see this, lovely interview.
Thank you so much! What is your favorite Krewella song?
@@GroundsForSuccess Definitely Enjoy the ride, but alive is great too!
Both are amazing songs!@@asiyah8239
I'm so upset you did not ask about loosing Zach (ex screamer) and how ISS evolved from then
I totally understand. Maybe in a future episode, I can have Devin back on and talk with him about that, or do a micro-segment where we discuss this!
I see stars is awesome. They have a niche sound that they keep improving in with every release. Are we 3ven particularly is such a great well made song. Glad they’re back!
I'm glad you dig their newest single! This interview was so much fun to have. Glad you liked it!
