One Week in Istanbul, Türkiye (Part 3)
One of our favorite cities with endless things to do and places to see. We stayed here for a total of one month and barely scratched the surface. We are so happy we chose to spend time in this beautiful city and that we had the opportunity to share the time with family.
This is the final video in our 3-part Istanbul series that details one week of activities in Istanbul. In this video, we explore places such as Dolmabahçe Palace and the Princes' Islands of Heybeliada and Buyukada.
Our biggest tip is not to underestimate the amount of time you need here. In one week, our days were busy from dawn to dusk, and we still missed out on a few places we wanted to see. If you are traveling with kids, we recommend at least two weeks so you can go at a more leisurely pace.
Everyone was really friendly and hospitable and public transport was super easy and convenient, although crowded certain times of day.
Check back next week when we head off to a new location in Europe!
Thanks for watching!

A lot has happened in the last few weeks so we figured we would create a video summing it all up. We left Cappadocia, stopping at the largest salt lake in Turkey on the way to Ankara. Unfortunately, we didn't do much in Ankara aside from errands. But this just gives us another reason to come back to Turkey in the future. After two days in Ankara, we headed to Istanbul for the final leg of our T...
Adventures in Cappadocia: Pigeon Valley & Zelve Open Air Museum
มุมมอง 20128 วันที่ผ่านมา
We had so much fun in Cappadocia and this last day was no different. Pigeon Valley was just as beautiful as the rest and once we started seeing all the different birds, it became even more magical. Zelve Open Air Museum was a last-minute addition to our plans, and we only made it there about an hour before closing. However, it was such a pleasant surprise. We even loved it better than the Gorem...
Cappadocia, Türkiye: Sunrise to Sunset & Exploring Love Valley
มุมมอง 110หลายเดือนก่อน
This was a long day but sums up just how amazing Cappadocia is! We woke up early enough to watch the hot air balloons from our balloon-view terrace. It was so magical, and the kids were mesmerized. Isla saw them from the bedroom window and was so excited to head outside. There were so many balloons, and some flew right over our heads. When in Cappadocia, we highly suggest watching this at least...
Adventures in Cappadocia: Red & Rose Valley Hike
มุมมอง 75หลายเดือนก่อน
Boy was this a tough one, but so worth it. This ended up being a 7-mile hike for us, which is the longest and most challenging we have done with the kids. I wouldn't recommend doing it with kids as young as ours, however. It was certainly a physically demanding hike, which was made worse by us still being sick and having the kids strapped to us for the duration. This was one of the most beautif...
Adventures in Cappadocia: Devrent (Imagination) Valley
มุมมอง 53หลายเดือนก่อน
Another day, another beautiful valley here in Cappadocia. To see this valley, you will need a car or to book a tour. There is no parking lot here, just street parking near the camel rock. This valley was super fun to walk around and although we didn't see many animal shapes at first, we eventually started to see some within the rock formations. If you drive up the road a bit, there is a scenic ...
Adventures in Cappadocia: Goreme Open Air Museum
มุมมอง 75หลายเดือนก่อน
Cappadocia was easily one of our favorite areas of Turkey, and it was so sad that we spent most of our time there sick. On this day, we were recovering after a few days stuck inside and we weren't feeling our best, especially Isla. But we tried to make the most of it and take a walk around the open-air museum. Unfortunately, filming and picture taking is not allowed inside the churches and chap...
Adventures in Cappadocia: Highest and Lowest Points -Uchisar Castle & Derinkuyu Underground City
มุมมอง 992 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, we share more of our adventures in the beautiful Cappadocia region of Turkey. On this day, we visited Cappadocia's highest and lowest points. Uchisar Castle is a staggering 60 meters tall (196 feet) and from the top you can get amazing views over the nearby landscape. Derinkuyu, on the other hand, extends 8 floors underground, giving you a unique perspective into the lives of pas...

This was our first day out exploring the Cappadocia region of Turkey and it was magical. The landscape in this part of Turkey is surreal and as soon as we left, we were talking about going back. There is just so much to do, especially for nature lovers. There are tons of hiking trails to explore, as well as ATV tours, hot air ballooning, and so much more. Unfortunately, children under 6 can't go up in the balloons, so this one was a solo trip for Ryan. He made sure to get up early because the shuttle was picking him up around 5:45 am. What a cool experience to watch the sunrise over the beautiful Cappadocia from high up in the sky! Definitely one of the coolest experiences and worth every penny (it's expensive). What a cool place this was. If you have young kids, definitely take them here when in Antalya. There were so many dinosaurs for the kids to find and each one had an informational panel. We spent the whole day here and Isla had so much fun running around and seeing all ...

What am amazing place to take the kids in Antalya. The Land of Legends was so much fun and there was so much for the kids to do. These men were police or soldiers I understood from their haircuts and weapons that they were soldiers or plainclothes police. You are very nervous. This is not America. Everyone loves, caresses, kisses and plays with children. We do not see everyone as a pervert. Our religion commands us to love children because they are sinless and pure like angels the beauty in them comes from God and we admire it. this has nothing to do with sex.

Thanks for your reply. This was the first time we had this encounter and over our time of 3 months in Turkey we had many more encounters like this. We came to realize that this is normal and that the people of Turkey are some of the kindest we have ever met.

YOU ARE TOO TENSE. You misunderstood everything This is not America, we communicate by touching each other You thought of Turkey as an unsafe life in your country We kiss, smell and love children. Even if we don't have our own children. There may be many perverts in America, but everyone loves children here

    • @gabbettfamilytravels

You obviously did not read what we wrote! We came to realize that this is normal in Turkey and embraced it. We have never thought of Turkey as an unsafe country or we would never have gone there. Coming from America our first instinct is to be fearful and uncomfortable of things that are not common in our home country. We truly love Turkey and the people but if you grew up in America you would understandably be questionable at first. Thanks for watching!

Thank you very much for sharing your experience going to Vintgar Gorge! I'm also planning on going there this summer with my family. I'm especially worried about the "walking situation" back and forth the parking lot and I'm so happy to see your honest review of the whole experience! The gorge I'm sure was beautiful and you took a really great video despite having a toddler and a baby!

    • @gabbettfamilytravels

Thanks so much! Slovenia is so wonderful and was one of our favorite places. The gorge is so so beautiful and even the walk back was beautiful. But carrying kids on your back makes it a bit tougher than it should be. But I'm sure letting a 3-year-old walk would have been even tougher! Definitely arrive early and try to get a parking spot at the first parking lot rather than taking the shuttle and if you have young kids, probably plan to take a more leisurely and slow day than us. Maybe stop at the cute cafe on the walk back and grab some yummy dumplings. Hope your trip is magical!

It certainly was strange for us to experience being from America where this does not happen. Similar instances happened to us throughout our 3 months in Turkey in different cities as well. While this particular situation may not be customary, the kindness and hospitality in Turkey certainly is 😊 We always had strangers interacting with our kids, playing with them, offering food, so to us it seemed customary. Everyone has their own experience of course.
