02:19:29 This is not how you conduct a study much less an experiment. Inference statistics are inapplicable for this particular setup (neither of the compulsory conditions was met), and furthermore the observations made (especially in such a tiny sample) are in no way shape or form indicative of a causal effect for the population, thus rendering the otherwise interesting study all but useless. To be completely fair though, some observations seem completely reasonable and logical (keyword - seem; a poorly designed study nullified all the effort and possibly valuable insights that could've been drawn from it otherwise, because without testing for variables' significance we will never be able to say for sure, and it would not be any different from just flipping a fair coin). Love the book overall though, thank you for sharing!

So, this book has flawed reasoning in it… I see where the author is coming from saying that we are more a product of our environments and opportunities than anything else, but this isn’t altogether true. Nothing is mentioned about personal choice, or personal finance, or one’s desire to change with technology, Let me explain… Gladwell mentions that Bill Gates and Paul Allen were born the perfect time in history, right when computers were first coming to the mainstream academic circles… Gates being born in 1955, Allen being born 1953… Gladwell’s argument being, Those born after that time were too young (fair point)… But those being born before then were married with financial responsibility, therefore not able to switch careers into the fledgling new field of computers… Here’s where I have my disagreement… What about the guy born 1945 (10 years before Gates for example), who never went to college, But rather went straight into the workforce, never married, took care of his finances… And around the same time, grew tired of the work he did, so started messing around with computers with a friend who went to a college that had access to them? Or perhaps he divorced and started going back to school around the same time, thus allowing him access to computers? See, if something is disproven even once, it’s no longer a feasible scientific explanation. So in essence, Wouldn’t the few who succeeded regardless of the rest be the TRUE outliers? Or would you even have a book at that point?

Very interesting, but definitely could be 1/3 the length and still get the point across very nicely. Maybe even better as some of it seems a bit repetitive or drawn out.

Don't get me wrong, I love this book and have made some life decisions based on some of its concepts, but I think the fact that it defines "success" so narrowly does its readers an extreme injustice. The most important question readers (or listeners) must ask themselves is "What is the criteria of success?"..."What does true success look like?" I think the real answer has nothing to do with the accumulation of wealth or accolades (things "moths and rust can destroy"). I think readers would do well to consider another passage in the Book of Matthew....Matthew 6:19. At the end of the day, its all about love.
