hey for some reason when I add my joystick it shows up kind of underneath the game ive been trying for hours to get this to work but cant get it to, my code works its just the little visual thing where its shows up under the game
17:47😂
RawKeyEvent is deprecated and the code provided does not work as expected with the replacement class KeyEvent. The character does not stop on KeyUpEvent and keeps going in the playerDirection set. Only when pressing an unrelated key (neither A D arrowLeft or arrowRight) will stop the character because it will trigger the default switch case. It would be nice to have a corrected version example with KeyEvent instead. Thank you. EDIT : I figured something out, in the emulator window in android-studio there is a mouse and keyboard icon that can be enabled to send "Hardware Input" instead and you get the appropriate behaviour with KeyEvent this way.
This could be good because I have worked on adding ui to java libgdx game before and it is so much work to do it well.
Hello any one can help me for Building this and run application. I have done process but my app running only on BACKGROUND.
your voice is lovable
😂 thanks
Liked !
Thanks 😊
when running in flutter web the tilemap gets some sort of anti-aliasing or filtering applied which causes it to look blurry. i tried disabling these in the layerPaintFactory on TiledComponent.load but didn't have any luck. anyone else run into this issue? // tried this layerPaintFactory: (opacity) { return Paint()..isAntiAlias = false..filterQuality = FilterQuality.none; } EDIT: Didn't realise this was a known issue when calling drawAtlas on flutter web. To fix the blurriness on web for now until this gets fixed, set useAtlas = false on the TiledComponent
"no offense to chickens" 😂😂
😂
Thanks so much 🙏🏾
You're welcome 😊
Had to give a dislike because the only reason I clicked on this video was because of the thumbnail and thought I was going to see something different that actually looked like something I would want to build. I don’t like being bamboozled.
Sorry about that. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment and letting me know. The image has made me want to try and make a Gameboy that looks similar to it color wise though so maybe in the future it'll be "real" 😊
Just wanted to let you know I've taken your advice and updated the thumbnail 😊
I'm surprised that nobody talked about battery consumption, how long it lasted for you? I feel like ips screen consumes a lot less..
That's a good question, based on other videos the amoled doesn't seem to use as much power as the others. I'm still rocking my first pair of batteries so far so not sure how long it really lasts
This is a really good video, hope to see you take this further at some point if your interested enough, would love to see a Game Boy Advance SP modding video.
My wallet can't handle it 😂 I came across the sp unhinged mod and 😊 it's on my list of future mods for sure. Next will probably be my pocket though 😊
Looks exactly like the thumbnail..
Yea about that... Thanks for watching 😊
I've updated the thumbnail to better suit the video 😊
Not a bad video, in the long run these Ai thumbnails are gonna hurt you from standing out. Try and take a nice photo and spice it up your way, better than using someone else’s work
Thanks for the advice, I wasn't sure how people would handle the ai thumbnail. I initially had my own of the Gameboy but click rate was low so I tried changing it but then I have vidiq installed and it offered me an ai thumbnail which I liked and used that to see if better CTR and it was so I kept it. Maybe I'll have a photo op for it, to try out some thumbnail ideas. 😊
@@Spellthorn yeah man get creative with it, people will appreciate it more than half done ai photo that doesn’t even look like what you built. And you built something so cool too!
I appreciate it thank you
Just wanted to let you know I took your advice and have updated the thumbnail 😊
Thinking of doing a mod like this with the original atomic purple shell. Thanks for the video
It's a great mod. The original shell would need to be trimmed to fit the amoled though which is why I used another shell to make it easier 😊
I LOVE these kinds of videos. I want to later build two Gameboys one of them will be a really cool blue version for my son and the other a cool girly pinkish one for my daughter !!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's definitely addicting to want to make many different kinds. There are so many different kinds of shells and buttons you can get. I do want to make some more but going to hold off for a bit due to cost 😂 I want to see if I can make an app that would show a custom designed Gameboy, like choose your shell, screen buttons, membranes etc with links to buy the stuff I was surprised an app like that doesn't exist lol
couldve just shown the actual gameboy instead of the ai for the thumbnail, were u really that not proud of your work?
My first thumbnail was actually of the Gameboy, but the views and click through rate was super low. So I was going to edit it and make a new thumbnail but then vidiq had a thumbnail creator which made me this one and I chose it to see if it would perform better and it did.
@@Spellthorn I respect the hustle!
these buttons are horrible
Horrible in terms of quality or horrible in terms of color?
Was this the AMOLED screen? It looks stunning.
Yea it's the amoled screen mod and it does look so good. Been playing Links awakening on it yesterday and today and so pretty 🤩
Oh so nice seeing this type of content ! Keep it up, really good ˆˆ
Thanks modding the Gameboy was a lot of fun and I really enjoy playing on it. Now to make my own game 😊
It looks like the iron man of gbcs. Fantastic build! =D Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it.
Oh yea, I didn't even think of iron man 😂 it gave me Zelda vibes for some reason which is why I liked it so much, glad you enjoyed the video 😊
@@Spellthorn It's a very pretty handheld. I love seeing how people build their gameboys, and this was a joy to watch. =D
Yes I love the different combinations people can do. My next mod will probably be my gameboy pocket 😊
just wow,thanx for shearing❤❤
Thanks for watching!
excellent video
Thanks 😊
If you are having trouble adding parallax and it doesn't fill the screen. Delete the "cam" variable and use the "camera" variable already existing in the FlameGame class
Great advice 😊
great tutorial!!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
I tried to get the enemy to send me back to the beginning just like you did but for some reason it would just run into me and do nothing, I'm confused on that part if anyone could help me out, thanks in advance
Hmm, are you sure doing it the same way
Hello, I really like all your Flutter & Flame videos, your narration is very good. I have been looking for such a video series for a long time. Thanks to you, I have made a nice introduction to the game field that I have always wanted to start. Now I wonder when a new series about game making will come? 😀
Glad you've found it helpful 😊 I've recently pivoted towards Gameboy development and plan on making some videos on that soon.
Hello, I just want to make some 2D mobile games, should I choose Godot or Flutter Flame?
Great question. Personally I would say use Godot, as it's more user friendly if just starting out and a great way to continue to learn and grow and make bigger and better games in the future.
@@Spellthorn OK, Thank you.
You're welcome 😊
shouldnt you atleast try to credit the artist?
What do you mean? I shouted out the art and put a link in the description?
Shouldn't you at least read the description and watch the video before complaining?
No reason to be mean 😊 I think he means maybe I should have said their name in the video which I forgot to do but yea I did link to the artist
@@Spellthorn True, true, i don't mean to make your comment section unfriendly. I like seeing someone making games for old consoles whatever the route, so glad to see the video.
You're okay ☺️ and yea my goal is definitely make a game and get it onto a real cartridge so I can play it on my Gameboy.
Not fair!!! I'm currently busy with my final exams and I missed the live show. nvm I will tune in next time dang
It's okay it was very sporadic. Good luck on the exams 😊
This is really interesting, Def going to my cool playlist
😂 thanks. Yes diving deep this was pretty cool and I can't wait to see what else I can do with more time
I am usually very bad at handling and organizing my thoughts but I never considered using ChatGPT to make a list for me like you did with the HUD. I didn't watch the whole thing but I respect a lot the fact that you made a game for the GBA. Nice work!
This was a lot of fun, I hope you enjoyed it. More Gameboy games to come 🙂
I sure did, thanks for sharing
😊
where to put firebase json file while developing for desktop app
Not sure I don't use firebase sorry
You really have wood for teaching. Glad you make them for free but you should know that I you were to have some paid courses, I would very likely paid for them hahaha. All I want to say is well done and thank you for sharing :)
You can always click the tip button 😂 I'm glad you enjoyed them though 😊
Hey hey its me again :D is there a way to do a "collision" for an enemy, so if you or the enemy is hitting, you are not dead, rather you get pushed in that direction. So no movement anymation etc. just a idle state and than gets pushed the way the enemy moves. Do i need to the the maths like for the chicken and the player, or is there a easy solution, that the enemy is a moving collision and just pushes you ?
Ummm off the top of my head I would say maybe something like when player is touching enemy enemy x = player.x + offset. If that makes sense like whhe your player touches enemy the enemy position becomes the player position plus an offset and when they aren't touching it goes back to allowing player to move how it wants Use ChatGPT and ask for guidance that's what I do lol
@@Spellthorn aaaaah nice ! thanks :D
I have an issue sometimes the player gone outside the border when I make multiple jumps.
Is it when player head hits bottom of a block?
@@Spellthorn Yes. Now I try to edit the left, right, and top walls as an spawn points and override onCollision method to check collide with player and walls. And also try to edit my play can only make a jump on air for one time using jumpTap flag. @override void onCollision(Set<Vector2> intersectionPoints, PositionComponent other) { if (!reachCheckpoint) { if (other is LeftWall) { velocity.x = 0; position.x = other.x + other.width + hitbox.width + hitbox.offsetX; } if (other is RightWall) { velocity.x = 0; velocity.x = 0; position.x = other.x - hitbox.offsetX - hitbox.width; } if (other is TopWall) { velocity.y = 0; position.y = other.y + other.height - hitbox.offsetY; } } super.onCollision(intersectionPoints, other); } void _updatePlayerMovement(double dt) { if (hasJump && jumpTap < 2) _playerJump(dt); velocity.x = horizontalMovement * moveSpeed; position.x += velocity.x * dt; }
I would like to request to make a tutorial for the big map and how to move the map on screen. I try to make it. but I cannot follow the way they did. Thank you. I am waiting more tutorials for flutter flame game with a new flame version.
looking forward the next series, it's been 7 months already :(
I am too 😂 it's been hard to stay motivated and time. I do want to jump back into it. I thought about streaming the process that way I can stay engaged while I figure it out. But just haven't gotten the time to hit the start yet. I will be doing that soon though 😊
@@Spellthorn it’s okay, we know it takes time to do it the way you’ve been doing these series, appreciate the response 😃
sorry for the new comment. i finished the tutorial, thanks man awesome !! But im running into a problem after i beat the 1 level. the second level is loading, but my player isnt spawning and i have the last diappear animation on the screen on the spawnpoint. I downloaded your code and copared ALL files, and there is no difference. i dont know whats the problem, everything works, just the jump into the new level / loading does not work. i added the removewith.... like i said i comapred the files. its wired :(
Hmm. If code is identical maybe it's the tiled map? Maybe you aren't adding the player spawn?
I'm really not an expert at this, so take this with a grain of salt, but instead of waiting 3 seconds for the world to be removed, I think a more clean way is to await on world.removed. This is what I did and it seems to work quite well. I also removed the cam because of the way I implemented things, but I'm not sure about the way you did it. // Remove the current world from the component tree remove(world); await world.removed; remove(cam); await cam.removed;
That's actually really good to know, and probably a better way to do it for sure. I too am still learning Flame 😄 and my code isn't always best practice just, it worked so I moved on lol
these series Deserves more views !! Thanks for the tutorial they are really helpfull. i will return back and show my personal game dev results
Glad you are enjoying it. I need to do another series 😊
@@Spellthorn Can you make a monopoly game ?
i would like to have the solution, that i need to collect all fruits , to complete the level. Has Someone done this ? or knows how i can implement it ? thanks
Should be pretty simple, could have a check of all fruit when building level. Each time collect fruit add to collectedFruit Then check if collectedFruit equals levelfruitcount If so. beattLevel = true;
@@Spellthorn i think im running in a little problem. on level im checking how many fruits they are, on the player on the collision if other is fruit im adding an integer collectedFruit +1 (here sometimes if im to fast, its counts double). But now, how can i get the information from player that collectedFruits are collected into the level.dart ? think im doing smth wrong :D
I did everything like you did in the video, but for some reason my character falls down and out of the level. There is no collision.
Nevermind, I fixed the problem.
Glad you were able to fix it 🙂
animationTicker?.onComplete = (){ removeFromParent(); }; And on SpriteAnimationComponents (like the fruit) you can set the current animation (to collected) and then do removeOnFinish = true; Instead of the awaits, futures, etc. Great video series, I enjoyed it a lot, thank you very much again!
Is there a tutorial for use on mobile for the jump section so you can jump using the jump button?
You can find it on episode 8
thanks for the help 😊
like the other view stated in episode 8 😊
you offered me massive help. Thanks dude!
Glad I could help!
I have a quick question. As someone with no prior experience in game dev and some experience in flutter, I'm eager to create my own game, but I'm unsure about the best approach. Should I follow your tutorials and recreate the game as you've demonstrated, or would it be better to use different assets and create my own game while following the general principles you've covered?
That's a great question. I feel a lot of people learn differently, I think following along with this tutorial and accomplishing what I make in the video would be very helpful to learn the basics etc and can start branching off where you feel is fit for your idea and vision. You could also just use this as a guide for different sections that you may be coming across, like my episode where I do sound, or my favorite one, where I make the enemy chicken. There's no wrong way to get started, also I would ask what your goal with having a game made with flame is, as if your goal is just making a video game I would say godot may be a better fit for that. For me flame was interesting cause I love flutter, but in terms of actually making a good game I feel like Flame may have been much harder way to accomplish the same thing in say Godot. Hope this helps, and good luck on your journey 😊
@@Spellthorn Thanks a lot!
