What Is 'Burning In'?
Burning In is the process of playing sound through a new set of headphones or speakers for an extended period of time to give the driver time to loosen up, much in the same way as you might walk around the house for a few days in a new pair of running shoes to break them in.
One obvious way to burn a new set of headphones in is to just use them as you would and play music through them. Eventually, the drivers and cones will loosen up and the sound signature will be in its final state.
There is nothing wrong with this, but in order to speed this process up many people will put their cans on an extended Burn In run. This might be playing music, white noise, pink noise, sweeps or drum fills to give the drivers an intensive, thorough workout in one sitting, therefore being able to enjoy their new set of headphones in the quickest possible time.
Whatever noise you play through your drivers, it is generally accepted that you should set the volume to about 15-25% louder than you would normally listen to music. This is dependent on your particular drivers though, and you should be careful not to overdrive them enough to cause them damage. Headphones should not be on your head whilst you are undertaking a Burn In cycle as not to damage your ears.

I am burning in my Sennheiser HD 560S, i have used different YT burn in videos with white/gray/pink/brown noise and sweeps. After 60 hours i really hear a massive improvement in sound, i know this is a fact many people think is imaginary BS. My last headphones was Audioquest Nighthawk Carbon, inside the box you can read a recommendation from Audioquest to not start listening to the headphones before after 200-250 hours of burn in !
What over 200 hours of not using something I purchased to use at that moment. I think that bull on that company's part because they should ha e done that process in the factory

i have not used my Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones for like 6 months and when i tried it on again few days ago the sound was low i had to turn it up to max. i tried your 1 hr burn in and its fixed nowx thank you. When i got this can 3 yrs ago i did the burn-in process pink noise and other noises out there. Definitely burning in your headphones is not a Myth.

"To hear is to believe. " Just try your new headphone to burn in. First test the sound before and after and you will hear the difference. The science behind it? New headphones or earphones has still tight components inside once you burn in you break loose that tight components and you will hear the true potential of your headphone/earphone. Burn in at least 100 hours. Same logic to new cars there is 1,000 km break in period.

Reminds me of the Hawaiian Waterfalls CD that I bought from a garage sale back in the 1990s that has become my de facto burn-in disc. Only this one kinda hurts my eyes on prolonged listening even at around 80 dB SPL.
I think the Hawaiian Waterfall collection CD is much "gentler" on audiophile ears.
Some audiophiles with gear in the 10,000 to 20,000 USD price range say playing Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath tracks with gusto for 8 hours or more also achieves the same burn in goal. BTW thre is an unnamed bonus track on Beck's Mellow Gold CD that sounds similar to this.
