Schenectady Has The Worst House?: German Beer and Sausage House Translates to "The Worst House"
มุมมอง 52 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Lost in translation. To the non-traveled American. The translation from German into "American" sees Beer Garden and Sausage House as: Beer Garden and The Worst House. ... Schenectady saw a major uptick in German immigration during the Erie Canal era. Where Germans came for work opportunities. Schenectady's population grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to industrial growth, and again ...

Downtown Schenectady: Economically Vibrant? Or Financially Impoverished? It's Hard To Tell
มุมมอง 284 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Schenectady, New York downtown. Economically vibrant or financially impoverished? It's difficult to tell. As the cars roll through a very busy downtown, at least during the day, and traffic builds up, one gets the impression that Schenectady is booming. A look at newer clean buildings also gives the impression that something good is going on here. But a walk along the sidewalks reveals vacant s...
Architecture in Schenectady Was More than Just Structure. It Was Art.
มุมมอง 194 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
You can feel the artistic spirit of Schenectady by simply taking note of the architecture. The wealth generated by the Industrial Era in the United States provided the resources for elite families to create wildly imaginative homes with distinct features. Fortunately, many of those homes still remain upright and viable in Schenectady. In this culturally rich area of NY, architecture, it seems, ...

Schenectady Has BEAUTIFUL Queen Anne Architecture-Styles Homes Like This One.
มุมมอง 84 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Queen Anne style architecture is very unique. And very pleasing to the eye. A wonderfully preserved example of this style sits right in the center of Schenectady. Formerly an Industrial-Era mansion, filled with the owners, their family, and butlers to boot, today it serves as the Schenectady Veterans center. Where the vets clearly look after this mansion very well. What a beautiful piece of Ame...

Many are bracing for impact as the stage is being set for Donald Trump to take office and regain unprecedented power. GE in Schenectady Has Maximum Security. Is Totally Fortified.

GE used to be THE powerhouse company in Schenectady. Employing well over 30,000 people. Today its numbers have dwindled down to roughly 3,000. And many former employees left town to seek out other job opportunities, as their jobs suddenly vanished when GE de-industrialized itself.

Smushed Cars: Schenectady Was Economically Hard Hit By De-Industrialization But Car Smashing Remains

NY State Had Grinding Poverty. Is That Changing? A Look At Schenectady, NY
มุมมอง 709 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Through the process of de-industrialization, much of NY state suffered economic collapse, and grinding, generational poverty, with all the symptoms: abandoned homes and buildings, low high school graduation rates, high crime rates, drug and alcohol abuse, and a seeming inability to leap up the social class ladder. But have things changed? In a quick look at Schenectady I saw an abandoned buildi...

This is nothing new. It's an organized Gypsy group that does this throughout the country. I could tell by their faces that when I opened this video they would be holding a white sign with black writing. I lived below a group of these people in an apartment once, 20+ of them in a 2 bedroom. They always had new bmw's, minivans, and left their garbage all over the streets and public areas. th-cam.com/video/oVIB0pkGWbk/w-d-xo.html

Yes Schenectady has many great historic buildings. The city as a whole It’s not a great place to live or raise a family. But it’s cool to see the history. Albany has a lot of great history too as well as Troy New York
That's great context. Thanks for commenting!
I saw a comment and when I clicked to see more they were all empty.
You didn’t really say anything.. you said to get a local’s opinion but you never got one. As a downstater.. I look at the cities on the thruway corridor and they always seem kind of poised on a renewal precipice (if they’re not a tourist town like Lake Placid or Lake George). Utica, Schenectady, Rochester, Syracuse… there’s nothing drawing me there. Rochester seems to be experiencing a resurgence although I was up there for the eclipse and I didn’t see it (nor the eclipse). The city I feel bad for is Jamestown. I was up there a couple of years ago to see the Comedy Center (underwhelming) and the Lucy/Desi museum (the real jewel of the town).. they are trying but it’s just not coming together. It’s a beautiful area with some hidden gems that deserves more attention. Being that far off the thruway hurts them… they’re just a little too far from Buffalo/Niagara Falls to be included in a trip there.
"Youtubing ain't easy" :) Here's something to think about..."You didn’t really say anything" - me "not saying anything" allows YOU to say "a lot of things". Context and understanding of place, things, etc. gets learned, created, understood, via multiple contributions. Such as yours. Nice job.
Obviously, they're luring young renters downtown with the promise of living a cool urban lifestyle but the density hasn't resulted in any new shops or eateries yet. Give it a little time!
They need employers and I am willing to give it time.. I like these cities. When I was up in Lake Placid I was talking to one of the business owners.. they’re perpetually looking for workers.. almost every store in town had a help wanted sign up. The problem is that housing is so expensive workers can’t live in the area if the business is seasonal. It’s a beautiful area. We’re also heading into an economic downturn.. which doesn’t help.
That's a great, succinct, summary.
What town is this please??
Durham
That area is generally referred to as The Stockade. (Because it used to be surrounded by one.)
Specific context is ALWAYS a good thing. Thanks for adding it!
I'd rather flush money down toilet than give to any begger. SCAM ALL AROUND THE WORLD
Wow, pretty. I grew up in the Suburbs of Schenectady and don't think I ever heard of it. Thanks.
of course! it's the "Stockade" section. like you said, really pretty, and really interesting too...homes up to 200 years old there. a real gem.
@@RonnieSouthbuckle Oh yes. I remember hearing that name thrown around, but I was there up until 18 yrs old, so never actually got to explore it or cared probably. It reminds me of some Philly historic neighborhoods a little.
@@stevef4010 Yes. Philly has a few neighborhoods that date back to that "American Republic" era. With very time-specific architecture, old bricks, and window frames you just don't see anymore. Charming.
It’s weird how the blue parts of the state are financially sound and the red parts of the state resemble the South
Indeed, exactly this. Its the reason i am happier having left the uk. Passive aggressiveness, the expectation that you must be self-deprecating to be accepted, the need to embalm any disalignments in opinion with trivialities like the weather. You have to share in their sense of victimhood or they feel threatened. Generalisation obviously but the sterotype applies.
same problem is cork and other cities. they need to be jailed or deported. all spotless clothes they are all connected and they are not homeless at all nor hungry the food is thrown out later from their bags. they just want money
Thank you. That was neat.
glad you liked it!
The house with the red door was particularly spectacular.
magnificent!
The first one looked like a shithouse but there were some nicer ones up the block.
It's endemic in there culture we in the west give to those who are in need but these people see it as a weakness and a way to make money from well intend people. Its a scandal.
Thank you. This was very informative.
glad it helped!
This is starting to happen in my local town in Wales, best thing to do is ignore them and dont hand over any money. They are already sponging money off our weak Government and living better lives than most British people. Shame on our Government for letting it happen.
That is assault. To say that an non-immigrant driver wouldn't do this is not true however. I've seen many Irish drivers get aggressive over the years
Is the irony and lack of self awareness lost on the racist?
It took me 35 seconds to tell that's 100% a gypsy woman, Romani is something else entirely my dear boy.
NO MONEY GIVEN ,= SCAM OVER 😊
Do not give them a single penny it only promotes more crime ... Some idiots do give them thinking they helped them but infact you are naking the situation more worser the monet everyone stops giving the SCAM IS OVER
Nice try Ronnie.
And that's all there is.
Typical dublin bus, black or white both useless 🤡 .It's embarrassing!

The video is taken in Durham City, walking from the Palace Green, down Owengate and along Saddler Street. The people here in Durham aren't a bit like the narrative, so I call BS on this. It's a load of bollocks.
