OK, I'm entirely more laid back than the usual TH-cam creator. I don't get nearly as excited as I should to draw the normal TH-cam audience. But I have to be me. I hunt for silver, and of course that's getting a little more difficult. So, now I also hoard copper. Copper will be going up in time and the copper pennies (cents) will soon start getting harder and harder to find in quantity. Besides, I love finding the old wheat pennies anyway. These older coins remind me of a time in American history that wasn't quite a chaotic as things are now. If you feel the same about any of this, please join me. Make some comments, and let's talk about it. I always try to return comments.

What scale do you use to weigh your pennies?
It's just a fairly cheap scale I purchased on eBay for about 8 or 9 bucks. I also have a back up if this one quits on me. But I'm looking at it and I don't see a brand name on it. All the best in your trip Gabby. Sounds like great fun. Hello from Canada. Find some gold buddy.👍👍👍👍 I was lucky to find 2 British gold coins, 1 was 1896 the other 1904 coin hunting from a thrift store jar of coins I purchased. Have you ever found any gold coins Gabby.
@@blueman2012 wow, no I've never found a gold coin.. amazing. I need to go to more thrift stores in Canada... And thanks, I'm looking forward to the trip
@@blueman2012 so what does one pay for a jar of coins that contains 2 gold coins?
I paid $ 60.00 dollars for 3 jars and it was senior day at Value Village, so I saved 30%. I think it ended up to be about $45 bucks with Taxes. So many families are just donating parents estates. furniture, books clothing, and coins. I was dancing in my kitchen when I found them.
Hi Gabby, great finds on the silver. I feel it was worth the effort. I can go thru $1000.00 Canadian and only find 1 or 2 silver dimes. Take care friend.

None of those were off centered enough to be valuable. There could be a 1996W in there.👍
I didn't think they were...
How did you ask for the bag??? Do they not have boxes???
Yes, they have boxes too ... This is one of my bank accounts where they have a coin machine for the customers. I asked if I could buy the bag when it was full. It's kind of like getting 4 boxes of customer rolled.
@TwoshedsGabby i have asked my banks and credit unions, but they don't do it, they tell me it's against their policy, maybe when I retire and live in a small town. It's good that ur bank works with you.
@@jerrygarcia8372 1 of the banks started out saying that, but I just kept being friendly with them, and eventually their policy just suddenly changed. Imagine that.
Branches with free (or free to depositors) coin machines are a fence for people who break boxes to CRH. 4/10,000 is pretty low; this bag is mostly someone else's tailings. Probably explains why one branch had this many customer-deposited dimes in the first place. Fun experiment and made for a good video, though! Bless your poor eyes.

@@scottymoondogjakubin4766 Your uncle was surely right.... Back to almost 3 cents each. I just keep all the wheaties, but I doubt I'll ever see the 1922
Yea I collect copper pennies as well but it’s definitely not going to make you alot of money.
@@JoeSmith-p5z not, we'll never get rich from it. But it will make some money, and like silver it's an inflation hedge. It just takes up a lot of room. If things really go to pot, it may be very good to have.
Can’t wait to see the gold prospecting trip.
Thank you... We're pretty excited here too
I budget $100 per pay period or around $216 per month, since I get paid 26 times a year instead of 24, and part of it always goes to purchase a little bit of Silver. The other part gets put back until I have enough to get a 1/10, 1/4, or 1/2 ounce 22k Gold Eagle or Gold Krugerrand. Most of what I buy, in terms of Gold, ends up being Eagles & not Krugerrands, but I only purchase coins that are 22k or closer to circulation composition (i.e. 90% - 22k is 91.67%). It still has the full weight of Gold in it, it's just Copper and/or Silver are added to harden the coin. So 22k Gold coins weigh a little more than regular 24k Gold bullion coins. I don't like having coins that I have to baby and never touch for fear or scratching or defacing them. So long as that amount of money (i.e. $216 per month) can still buy some amount of Silver or Gold in a given year, I'll continue to purchase. The longer you hold those items, the better they hedge inflation for you. So the Silver I bought 16 years ago is doing really good at hedging inflation, and the same thing goes for the Gold that I purchased more than a decade ago. I do keep my Copper pennies and even older Nickels as well. I'd guess that just from keeping back the Copper that ends up in my pocket each day, I have probably 110 or 115 lbs, and probably very close to 100 lbs of Nickels. That's without ever hunting through any Penny or Nickel boxes of course. I've been savings Pennies since I was a young kid, but I just had them separated by decade and/or type. So Wheaties in one jar, non-Wheaties from the 50s & 60s in another jar, 70s in another, and 80s in another. After I got married, my wife finally helped me go through about 20+ lbs of pennies in my 80s jar, so we could pull out all of the 1980 & 1981 pennies. I turned the rest in with a bunch of change that I'd been collecting, and I think I got something like $961 back. I went right out and bought a bunch of Silver with that money, though I kept some for a nice date night. Anyway, once I had them separated out, I just put them all in one spot, and I've been slowly adding a few pounds to them every year. I'd guess I add somewhere between 3 to 4 pounds to the Penny hoard every year. Yeah, I read Mad Magazine a little when I was younger, but I honestly don't remember most of the content anymore. I know my parents were a little annoyed that I was reading the magazine when they'd find it in my room or around the house. I forget, do you Wheat pennies get counted with your Copper weight, or do you keep all of the Wheat pennies separate? Decent box! Congrats!
@@veritasfiles thank you for your information, you have a good method. I have purchased silver a handful of times. But I admit, my goal has been to stack silver mostly by getting the coins at face value, or even free in the few cases of coinstar (and hopefully some will come with metal detecting) Since your wife helped you, it was good that you kept some money back for date night. I keep the wheat pennies separate, and the Canadian pennies separate, and they are not considered in the weighing of the copper, so actually, I get a little more copper in each box that I give credit for at the weighing at the end. I was good hearing from you. Please write any time.
Struck through grease coin, i believe, I could be wrong...
Thank you. That's the process phrase I was looking for. I don't know why I can't keep that in my head. Probably to much Mad magazine stuff in there, it warped my brain.
Mad was good. Liked small peanuts books too
Oh yeah, we had a few of those too. I enjoyed them as well.
Hey two sheds gabby, have you ever took the time to have your own silver stack?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I have been gathering silver for quite a few years. I don't have a small fortune or anything, but I've got a fair bit put away. Mostly from coin roll hunting
@@TwoshedsGabby that’s nice, by silver stack I was talking about junk silver from coin roll hunting or pure silver that you stack on the side.
Oh yes, absolutely, that is where I started. In the scheme of things I'm new to copper pennies. I've not only crh silver for quite a few years. I've been making videos for 7 years

@@leechild4655 thank you
To be honest with you the copper in landfills is not as cool as the green motherboard in landfills. Gold and silver recovery from scrap electronics is also a great hobby. Sometimes you get nothing of value and sometimes you get boards that have gold everywhere, while the coating of gold is thin it adds up. IC chips can go for $5 a pound to as high as $200 for some of the gold legs ones. CPU's can run about the same price. Ram sticks from $8-25 per pound. Factor in Tantalum, MLCC's, Aluminum (mainly heat sinks and hard drive casings) you can also hoard those metals for next to nothing as far as costs go.
I have wanted to do that, it's super fascinating. Do you recover the gold yourselves, or just sell it? But you are right, there is a lot of precious metals being thrown away. I suspect if a person did the research, and really hustled one could even make a fair living at it (Especially if a person made a TH-cam channel with the business)
