Can't wait for the Boer war game.
This is your body on allied propaganda.
I am absolutely disappointed with the third edition. The rulebook is artificially crammed and poorly structured. Rules contradict each other or are very poorly explained. Instead of building on the second edition, they've created a game where completely illogical things just happen. A great pity.
I too enjoyed my 1st V3 game. So far so good.
Glad to hear that @TheKenthor, what armies were you using and how did you find the National Rule changes?
@tabletopminiatures7139 British vs German. I think the rulebook British rules are a little light, but I'm optimistic for improvement with the Armies of book. The Germans are pretty solid, especially with the new rules on the way.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the Bolt Action Mike - Russians for the win!
Thanks @rickpriestly, I particularly love that I was effectively using a Company, with a more structurally logical mix of platoons, rather than a single embellished platoon. Their is so much more flexibility as well!
I got a typewriter from the Assault Group that I use as an Enigma machine
Excellent idea!
Bro, did this hulking gigahon have input into the game? Is this the absolute state of wargaming?
Lovely work and inspirational.
Cheers John, that is an high compliment after seeing your work at Ironclad Miniatures!
I'm something of a TO&E nerd so I find those Germans to be very cool.
They definitely had some of the most innovative kit.
*It's not a weight loss supplement... Bugger. Keep up the good work.
I was working on a building site when I was ordering the 'Battle of the Bulge Supplement' over the phone, and it was a popular topic of conversation for the rest of the day!
Looking great!!
Cheers Bennie, that's very decent of you to say so!
cute ! & historical :)
Cheers!
Would love to see more of the Stalingrad project, I would like to know what you think of the Sarissa Precision Stalingrad Tractor Factory kit that comes with the Italeri Stalingrad Siege 1942 battle set
Hi @JamLeGull, I am presently working on some of the Sarissa Facyories, but have not yet physically got my hands on their 'Stalingrad Tractor Factory'...yet. It is deifinitely on the to-do list, especially as I have a load of militia and another Tank Factory T34 in progress. In the meantime please visit my project www.beastsofwar.com/project-entry/1897294/ to see more Stalingrad. More videos to hit featuring Stalingrad later in the year.
Thank you for the uploads! As a new player, it's great to hear part of the design process from the lead designers. Looking forward to the 3rd ed box.
Thanks @eugenebalan7702, it was a great day and quite an eye-opener into the development process. Even as a veteran player, I have been realy chuffed to get my hands on the new box set. Winter Fallschirmjager are particularly appreciated as they are the one infantry group that I had not been previously able to field.
interesting
Cheers for the encouragement @gimmeklik1632! Do you have any particular areas of interest in Bolt Action or Military History?
I have had 40 illustrated military history books published over the past 20 years. How the proofing process (putting the text, illustrations, tables, charts, and captions together) is described here is not how an experienced publisher does things. It spells a commercial disaster in staff time. And I think Osprey has plenty of experience of putting together illustrated books... Make of this what you wish.
Nice interview. I’d love to go for a pint with John!
Hi @hangarrat, it was great to meet him and I very much agree. Some great stories from a unique life!
"A growing commercial desire..."
He notes army special rules as a high point of 3rd edition… then they release the minor nation special rules which are copy/pasted between all of them, are uninteresting and continue to make most of them unplayable. I guess I spent money on Hungarians and Italians after Case Blue for nothing.
Hi @alanlatour624 I suspect that we might have more developed National Rules when the Army books come out!
@@tabletopminiatures7139 I don’t doubt that but the minor nation books won’t be out for another 2 years or more. It’s not exactly a well planned out release
the new book version 3 is terrible. poor paper quality the companion small version 3 book is unreadable without a magnifying glass
I think the quality is fine, but I did find the print size a touch miniature! (Pun intended.)
you should follow lock and Load and have books that lay flat and are 8X 11
too bad the v3 book is so bad hardback paper quality terrible small version unreadable without magnifying glass
Gonna Watch later!
So basically this is “Bolt Action 3rd Edition, the Quest for More Money”. Instead of buying one of something, they want us to buy three instead
Hi @alanlatour624, essentially it is a commercial decision, however I welcome the toning down of in my opinion too many minuses to shooting. I also prefer the new force orders allowing greater flexibility and a more realistic force ocompostion on the table top.
Most v2 armies will port over just fine. You may need to add an officer or two and possibly another vehicle if you've only got one.
Great interview. I definitely think doing Romans over ACW was the better choice. Loved the anecdote about HR and the machine gun
Cheers Stephen, it was a privilage and a pleasure.
I have to say Johns vision for the Plains Wars sounds amazing.
It reminds me of my childhood and would love to give it a revisit!
Great footage! Do you mind if I use a few minutes of it for one of my videos? I will of course make sure all credit goes to you and I will put a link to your channel in my video description :)

Is that a gates of antares vehicle on the left? Is it making a come back?
I have no info I am afraid, certainly nothing that I heard of on the day. I attended most of the lectures but not all, so I might have missed something.
@@tabletopminiatures7139 I doubt it is to be honest, which I understand from Warlords point of view.
@@AdamPriestleyWargaming I suspect that it is dead. It might have been a good game but the miniatures didn't grab me.
@tabletopminiatures7139 Skytrex still make it, and I think a 2nd edition did come out.
Nice to see the man himself, I've have had some great games of BA, and more fun with it than probably any game other than Warhammer Ancient Battles or Necromunda 1st edition. I am a bit 50/50 on the changes still, I think I may have to play many more games and review at Christmas. I agree with reducing the maths- hammer side of it, and the force organisation around a Company is just 5/5. Not keen on shooting, primarily the watering down of the effects of pinning not stacking and the -1 being the biggest effect on a unit's shooting. Why pins on a target unit don't effect Assaults too I'll never know, espexially as assualting is too dangerous for the attacker to make it worth the effort really. I think they have missed a trick on many things like expanding the orders that officers can give beyond just Snap-to, and not having long range modifiers now is just not right. The changing of vehicles turning twice in a move is great, as are the removing of free units, etc etc was very much called for. I'll not go through the whole book. Hope you guys have some fun times, we have our club's 2025 BA league lined up for around February so we all should be well versed enough then to hammer away at each other. All the best!
omg that damn door!
That whole thing coud have been "HANDLED" better! Sorry @jd306, I couldn't resist and completely agree.
@@tabletopminiatures7139 all good, I was just painting and it hit a nerve :)
As much as I’m sure your content here is interesting , your meeting setting really put me off. Just reminded me of the long painful gratuitous meetings I had to endure as a teacher . The crappy mdf tables , the crappy slide show and the ubiquitous blue carpet. At least the man to the right of the screen looks as about as interested as I would be in such a place.

phwoaarr that's a naughty tank
Hi Chaz, it was only a matter of time!
What alternatives to Forge World wet mud would you recommend?
I use pre mixed filler, mod podge (could use PVA instead) and whatever dark brown craft paint all mixed together so that if it chips it doesn’t show up white.
@ItkovianNYD thank you
Sounds like a great idea for mud effects! The Pigment/Water Wash I use coats the whole model and dulls everything down/
@@tabletopminiatures7139Haha, that’ll teach me not to go to the comments section before having a chance to listen to the video 😅
@@ItkovianNYD 😆at 2 minutes 18 seconds, it's not a long video but thanks for getting involved anyway. I hope that you enjoy the existing videos and forthcomming whenthey get release?
Love the dirt detailing, especially for removing the shine off the decal
Cheers Stephen, I used to hate the shine that the decals create, using the pigment wash and in some cases a Vallejo Matt varnish kills it very effectively.
Very good quality painting 5*
Thank you! Cheers!
Looking good 👍🏻
Wearing a jacket is definitely a strong sartorial statement, but is essentially my sartorial norm and the pockek accomodated the lapel mic!
Great job by the finest speaking man on TH-cam!
Cheers Old Chap!
Brilliant painting
Looks great! Really nice finish. Would you use the Halfords matt black on miniatures too?
Hi Stephen, I basecoat all my miniatures with halfords Matt Black unless they are going to finish up predominantly red, white, pink or yellow. These colours realy need a white undercoat. At present I have been using Citadel Skull White Spray. Sometimes I would recommend using an airbrush to undercoat tiny miniatures with very fine detail, such as Flames of War plastics or Warlord's Epic scale miniatures.
@tabletopminiatures7139 thank you, that's really useful to know. What method do you prefer for bulk army painting?
Hi @StephenRedmond-b5h , I usually go for bulk assembly and painting. It feels fresh at first, then a bit labourious but feels great at the end when dozens of miniatures etc are rolling of the production line!
Looks awesome!
This is hilarious!
Cheers @Grey Wanderer, we had great fun making this video, and it was a pleasure to do something so different and out there!
