OP-XY Jam - Single Take
A short jam using some of the XY’s best features - the BRAIN to create chord progressions, and punch in effects to add B sections/variety. In-built sounds only.

Can the OP-XY sidechain?
มุมมอง 38621 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I’ll show you how to get a sidechain-style volume ducking effect with your XY. This feature is slightly buggy as the volume value doesn’t update visually sometimes. I hope it’s something TE can work out as it’s a very powerful feature. Support this channel: ko-fi.com/expander #groovebox #teenageengineering

Excellent sounds / tunes / sound design - like every piece of gear Move is only limited by your imagination - it’s a hugely capable bit of kit - I’ve been having fun with mine too - loading your own samples is a great way to increase its possibilities 👏🏻

Really beautiful my man! Giving me Airdrawndagger vibes on some of these. Thanks for sharing!
I did automation with the filter and it has a smoothing effect you can do which makes it jump parameters slowly. I am shocked that it has no sidechain though or DJ filter that is always available to do a build up or breakdown. These two features would be first on my list when making this device.
@@antikytheramechanism7909 I’m not certain but I believe you can use the master EQ to fade between two settings of your choice, one could be set to a high pass kinda setting, for example - but don’t quote me on that! I haven’t tested it yet.
@@expander3710 Yeah, I have used the low frequency to try it out but it is nothing like a DJ filter.
can you load a new project during playback?
@@dankefurnichts you can, but it loads the project and stops playback.
it's giving "The Album Leaf" meets "Radio Dept." -- Keep making music, my friend... The people will listen. Love from Austin, TX 🤘🤠
Really useful - thanks
You’re the only one with this thing that actually makes unique music. So sick of “ambient lofi track” from all these boring ass youtubers. Can’t wait to hear what Son Wu makes too.
Thank you so much, Jeff
@ Welcome dude. I always have the most respect for channels that actually make amazing music, and don’t just get a piece of gear to get clicks.
LOVING that second track
amazing!
Dude! That thing about the small waveforms at the end! Sweet! Usable on the Field too. Subbed!

100% better than anything I’ve heard people make from the op-xy.
Thank you!
OP-YX is classic biased reviewing - it’s overpriced so it HAS to be good - every jam I’ve heard on it is nothing special - these jams are very good indeed
@ same. TE gear is really weird. It’s awesome, it’s unique, but everything from them there’s a back in forth in my mind trying to justify having it. The op-1 field is amazing though.
I had my OP-XY for almost two weeks and these videos are awesome. Much better than paid synthfluencers. Subscribed.

Wow that guitar sample sounded so good, really like listening to a real guitar. Hmm, inspiring….!
@@medenine4828 I recorded it with a decent but inexpensive condenser mic into a Scarlett 18i20 interface. But no other processing really. It’s worth the effort.
@@expander3710 would you be willing to share it? I've tried to find simple "open" string guitar samples but am not finding anything so simple as yours.

Fantastic, just heading out this afternoon with the XY in my bag...going to give these a whirl on my train journey, thanks!
So does this mean the Ableton Move is no longer your favorite new groovebox? 🙂
Ha! I think this an excellent unit, but the Move probably beats it for immediacy and sound, I’d say. I think the TE digital sound isn’t for everybody, but some like it a lot. It’s also hard to recommend this to many people simply because of the price, but I’m glad to have it - the battery life really is best in class. I’ve got one more video to make with the XY then I’ve got a couple of Move videos planned, one detailing the process of initial idea, then taken into Ableton to finish the track completely. Thanks for your comment.
This was very helpful... Thanks for doing this... Subscribed
Tape with apr, interesting! I’m not friend with tape, but that can make unexpected. Will try.
Guitar sampling is beautiful. So far I have not found how to change length of a single note (not sample). Is there a way to make guitaring into control? I have my nylon Cordoba samples bunch to drop at some point.
@@samprockI don’t understand what you mean - can you explain again?
@@expander3710 when I have midi pattern. I press a note so it gates sound of guitar (long note). AFTER I played it and like to change the length of a single note is that possible? I know can press two keys to make note long over several keys, if I want to adjust a little? I also know I can nudge starting point of a note left/right (note shift -/+), is there something similar for the length?
@@samprock I think with samples the only way to adjust the length of a note is with the envelope
@@expander3710 Thanks! that's what I can't figure out if there is a "gate" control for an individual note that can be programmed after the fact. Maybe not, yet. Maybe TE wants us to be better keyboard players 😎
How did you get a blank multi sampler?
@@robnchrisca press shift and the M1 button - this just changes the engine rather than the actual patch.

Have you attempted to export tracks/ sequences as MIDI for use in a DAW? That's something l've been wondering about.

Fantastic compositions.
Could you have all your tracks, EXCEPT for the chord, sequenced and going, and play chords to trigger the Brain??? That's what I thought was advertised.
@@Ancaja123 If I understand you correctly then yes, I think it’s possible - you can route certain tracks so the brain doesn’t change them, then use that track to modulate all of the other elements? I’m not certain, but maybe I’ll address it in part 3.
This is great, thanks for the inspiration! Which waveform pack did you download, I see a lot of options from Akai to Elektron. Thanks
@@videosarchive8058 I actually sampled one of my own synths - the electribe. It’s digital but the waveforms sound nice. I think I’m going to make a waveform pack sampled from the UNO you saw in this video. Thanks for watching.
Love the variety of sounds you used, which shows what the move can do. Fantastic work 🫶🏻
@@MilesKvndra thank you Miles, I appreciate it

Very nice tutorial subscribed
I appreciate it!
I'm a Push 2 owner, so i dont think the Move was going to be something i sought after. But i do think people jumped the gun with the criticism of it upon release. I understand the complaints about limited tracks, but you can do so much with one track in Ableton. Not only that, but some people have option paralysis. They need the limitation or they wont get anything done. I struggle with this at times due to having a lot of VSTs.
You’re right - the only problem with having access to so many sounds so easily is how to start - I’ve finished more music on this thing because option paralysis isn’t really a problem when I’m using it.
Jam No. 1 sounds so good!! Should be released!
I’m thinking of doing a video where I transfer it to ableton to finish/master it.
they should charge you 1k more.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE PRICE THEN SHALL WE? It’s strange that a piece of gear can be so divisive and cause negativity within the community, so I thought I better say a few words about it. Yes, this item is prohibitively expensive for most people, and I’m certainly not going say you must immediately go out and buy it: only you can know if you can afford it. However, I would like to say something that I feel has been missing from conversations on this product, and that is: you’re paying for miniaturisation of technology. Whenever a device with a lot of features is put in a small housing, costs rise as custom parts are often required. The XY also has a best-in-class battery life - If TE brought out a device with the same features but in a housing 4 times as large, and mains powered, there’s no way it’d be this expensive.(I hope….) What I’m saying is this: if portability is important to you(It is to me), then you might be interested in this device and find it very useful, but if you’re an analogue purist who is happy to make music in one location, then there’s less to appeal to you here. As for me; it’s as if TE looked inside my brain to see what features I wanted in a device and then made it a reality - It appeals to the way I like to write. I’d like to think that gear should be judged solely on the quality of the music you can write on it, but ultimately, you don’t *need* this, but maybe you *want* it.
I 100% agree. This is such a well thought out system. Since I long time I’n actually excited about a new bit of gear which seems to surprise me again and again. A lot of new innovative stuff gets to market half backed and some even never get finished.
The price is ridiculous and te should be ashamed but Im still getting one.
@ you’re their ideal customer!
Sounding great, but that interface...........tiny screen, non interactive.........for a company held up for design...........
Yes, I appreciate it’s not for everybody.
It is extremely interactive, has punch in effects it’s one of the selling points.
