Algae manipulation is really neat
I noticed you guys chose to use mecanum wheels. Any particular reason?
We do not have access to swerve modules and it appears that there is a general discouragement for defense this year (the semi-separated field setup included) so not having as much pushing power wouldn't be a deal breaker. Also, with many of the RI3D teams either going swerve or tank, we thought it may be helpful to the community to provide another example option for a drive train.
@ interesting. And good point about the defense. That makes more sense after hearing someone else explain it.
Nice work, my students love your design, is there anyway you could share the onshape files with me.
All of our files are linked on our chief delphi thread: www.chiefdelphi.com/t/ri3d-umn-robotics-2025/478147
Any climb?
Unfortunately not. Because we went with a leadscrew design (materials we had on hand) there was a miscalculation and the entire weight of the robot would be held by a 3d printed part. We discovered this at about 7am the last day, and then just taped on the climbing hook as it couldn't work anyway. In an ideal world where that part wouldn't be crushed/slip yes it could.
is there a parts list for this robot?
we plan on releasing a BoM soon!

I think the robot is trying to say “Get in the water”
Yes, an Epic fan 🙌
I was on the team and I believe I overheard that song being considered for this video!
Yay, robotics Epic fans!!! :P I got so excited when I saw they named their robot Poseidon.
W robot, w song
For the climber, are you aloud to grab onto the top square of the cage? If so you may be able to climb on the deep setting.
Nahh u cant
It’s illegal to touch the top of the chain and punished by a major foul I believe
Have you posted a CAD link?
CAD will hopefully be released Tuesday afternoon
What if the coral is horizontally put on the ground?
We do not plan to pick up coral from the ground, only from Coral Station.
This recently changed and we now plan to be able to pick up coral from the ground with a modification to our intake, take a look at our day 2 update video to get a glimpse of this in CAD!
@@jaceflansburg ok thank u👍
@@skyblaze103 wow
The independently steered wheels seem to be working well. What are you planning for your digging system?
We are currently finishing the manufacturing of our digging system. It will be on a lift that lowers it into the ground for digging and then raises it up out of the ground to be in a position for dumping. It will have a thin steel wedge for digging and a conveyor belt for dumping the material out of the other side of the robot. Stay tuned for more info!
What gearbox ratio did you use for climbing?
I believe it was 100:1 if I'm remembering correctly
What gearbox ratio did you use for climbing?
Am currently competing against this robot at a week zero mock competition, super cool robot, great work!
'Promo sm' 😒
How does the shooter work without going to one side
Our shots do tend to drift to the side a bit, it's not too bad but I would probably recommend using two shooter wheels to counteract spin on the ring versus one like we have here
We built ours with only one and its not powerful enough and it turns too much. How did you get it to drift so little though. Also what motor are you guys using
@@Sokara7 We used a NEO motor for our shooter, I believe with a 1:1 gear ratio (no reduction). Although, I would probably recommend having two shooter wheels, one on each side, each powered by a NEO (or similar) motor
@@isopod00 We also use a 1:1 NEO and we are currently reworking the shooter to fit a second wheel since with only one the note drifted and didn't go far enough.
What is the size of your flywheel? Can it be replaced with compliant wheels? This design is awesome!
Those poor wheels on the tile
which motors do you use on the robot's climber? and can you tell me how it works please :)
We used Andymark's Climber in a Box (cut shorter) COTS solution for our climber, and we powered it using a 775pro motor!
Best Ri3d out there.
i am the 666 subscriber gimme a robot
you can apply to the University of Minnesota and help out the team
The way your guys climber is angled looks like it'd be perfect for a buddy climb
do you have any major problems or improvement ideas? looks cool.
there are quite a few improvements I can see right off the top: 1 improve climber, it was put on during the last hour and is not optimized, it needs counter weight due to its positioning, and the travel distance should be tweaked, 2 the flywheel made the note spin off to the side, so some way to center the shot would be ideal (add a second wheel either on the other side, or like the kit of parts bot), 3 make the pneumatic ramp also function as a player station intake, 4 add another row of rollers to intake so it can intake from both directions (explained better in another comment)
he zooming
truth
What happens if you drive over the note backwards, does it still pick up the note, or just push it along?
We never tested this however I see two outcomes: it just gets pushed and it just stays under the bot, or the bottom intake wheel (two inch compliant) would pull it under the bot (could damage the element) spitting it out in front where we could intake it normally. The main shooter plate extends down to almost touch that bottom row of wheels so there wouldn't be any way (without modification) that it could intake from that direction, that said by adding another row of rollers (mirror the top row of intake wheels) it may become possible to intake from both directions
@@jaredschultz1867 If when it spits it out in front, depending on lots of factors (e.g. speed of surface of the wheels -- smaller wheels should be going slower then surface of larger/higher wheels -- and how grippy they are relative to the carpet, and how fast the robot is going), it seems if the larger/higher wheels grab it, it may just get picked up, which would be super cool and useful.
Good jobs this year, congrats from the Bison RI3D team
Climber looks compact and effective. Nice work!
Awesome robot! Really impressive that you managed to do all of that in 3 days. Just wondering, how did you get the floor intake to work with the rules and limitations?
Top of bumpers can be 7.5 inches off the ground, bumpers can be a minimum of 5 inches. That gives you 2.5 inch clearance for a 2 inch game piece.
@@ashtondemmer8820 Awesome, thanks for the answer!
Additionally, that 5 inches has an acceptable variance of +/- 1/2 inch. So you could realistically go with 4.625" bumpers and be safe. @@ashtondemmer8820
The rules say +/- 0.5 inches for bumpers, so you could get 3in of room
YEAHHHH GO GOPHERS
SKI U MAHHH RAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
can you public the metal plates beside those jelly wheels SLDPRT please?
One more day 🎉
very cool
Hey mark, this is nathan, i would recommend you guys try doing this intake with bumpers, as that may change how well it functions
i second this!!! i wanna see how it works
Hey Nathan! We have tried with bumpers and it works very well, the rules have it’s bumpers maximum height flush to the perimeter, and we found that it doesn’t interfere in negative way with the intake system!
@@itsmemarkee6591 thank you so much!! I’m so proud of how far you have gotten. This video has been very helpful to the team!!
MARK????
Bumpers are allowed to be 1/2 inch above a note
they must be kept within 7.5 inches of the ground, and they can be as small as 4.5 inches wide. 3 inch gap, 2 inch notes. it'll fit
We tested it with bumpers and it fit!
That looks really promising, but what about bumpers?
We are keeping our bumpers flesh with the bottom of our frame which allows for the note to pass with plenty of room.
Looking at rule r402, bumpers must stay low. Not sure how to read this rule? I think your design will fit into this definition, i hope
Definitely test this with bumbers and verify that it doesn't get stuck
Bumpers must stay within the bumper zone (from the floor to a plane 7.5in above the floor) and must be 5in tall. That means you can get them 2.5in off the floor, for 0.5in of clearance.
@@FLL9909 We have tested with holdng our bumpers up to our bot. One thing to also note is that we have wheels with a 8 in diameter which gives us a bit more height off the ground
How did you make the mechanism in the middle, can you post it?
nasıl yaptıklarını bulabildin mi acaba
Man I like frogs
Seems really cool! What gyro are you using?
navx
How is the robot able to reach the top rack isn’t that over the 2ft extension limit? 1:15
Nice... But you intake moving to the right and score moving to the left, so you also need to rotate the grabber 180 degrees around Z after pickup, right?
Will ya compete in the frc competition
