I bought this a while ago. I agree it is great! Brings back memories of a TV my gran had in the days of black and white viewing 😂

This Pantasy sets drips nostalgia (I'm 62 and grew up with such TV's). Until very recently the only Lego alternatives I have purchased have been MegaConstrux (previously Mega Bloks) and Cobi (old-school and military vehicles/aircraft) -- but I have now purchased the two Pantasy Sherlock Holmes sets and awaiting the arrival of my first Funwhole sets (Mountain Cabin and Newsstand). These two companies are legit (not "fake Lego") as they have their own original and imaginative designs. Funwhole sets come with light kits -- I'm not into lighting my brick models but ill try it.

The problem is Lego decides that they’re going to change without offering a solution directly from their sets to this issue. Not that I disagree with having the ability to stack other bricks and plates underneath the base plates and roads of a city, however for the amount of years that they pushed those base plates with no way to fast a plate underneath them on us and then suddenly switched back again is ridiculous. Too many general people and even or should I say, especially TH-camrs who Lego knows supports their product continue to push alternatives instead of making them LEGO provide the answer is not helping the issue. Lego should be offering a solution with every one of their sets rather it be the basic set of road plates that they offer to any of their city sets which come with the new road base plates in front of them should be providing solutions with each box to adapt to their old style base plates, along with the fact they continue to offer for sale by themselves the base plate without the ability to stack anything underneath them to continue to add issues to anyone, especially who is just getting started and building their city or Lego diorama. With the way, the cost has risen for LEGO sets of any kind. They should definitely be offering a very viable and simple solution to this issue within their sets especially the big ones.

I think there are legitimate alternatives to Lego (MegaConstrux, Pantasy, Funwhole -- surprisingly about a dozen others) -- who actually offer quality and both licensed and original designs. I've recently started exploring these (I have the two Sherlock Holmes sets by Pantasy and quality and design are excellent -- and customer service). But fake Lego (Lepin, many others) puts me off due to the ethics issue. Then again, Lego seems at times to be price-gouging or simply consumer-unfriendly policies (like Insiders rules -- won't get into details here) which raises its own ethical issues. For ethics and quality I stick with Lego and legitimate alternatives while holding Lego accountable.

From childhood on (62 now -- yikes!) I've been firmly DC. 1970s DC comics imprinted on my brain and heart. With movies and Lego same: DCU. But obviously one can fully embrace both -- just the way things started when I was a little Cuban refugee in Miami with a 7-11 with racks full of comics -- 20¢ each -- just behind my backyard (I just cut right through bushes to store). But this X-Jet and figures are really cool -- and the quick glimpse here of your Lego MCU displays rocks. Thanks Ali.

The city is coming along good. The alternate builds of the modulars are amazing. But I do love the sight of the Pantasy streampunk clock tower 👍 but a great progression of the city

I became an AFOL Dad via my boy/girl twins when they were 4 -- they just turned 18 and going to college next month (they've lost interest in Lego -- I have not). I've recently tried Pantasy (two Sherlock Holmes sets) and Cobi (cars). I enjoy your friendly, chill, enthusiastic and authentic manner. I've heard of CaDA -- but not "Cat Fight." 😁 I look forward to your future videos (and past videos -- gotta dig into your library). Thanks.

is 16x16 method sturdy enough? with less 2x2 bricks? could you please let me know the other benefits as well when going with 16x16 if there is any?

Modulars literally are addictive i started with boutique hotel saw it was 15th anniversary so i had to get assembly square then got brick bank, jazz club daily bugle and i want more😂 not sure where ill put them but ill cross that bridge when i get there.

£10 per plate is still to expensive. There are alt brick companies that will help you cut that cost much further. Personally I used webrick to slash the cost.

I was really thinking of getting the city gardens as i have a deal at 280 € but since i don't have the first ninjago sets, i'd rather get the lion knights castle. It'll be on shelves longer so i'll have time to save some money up, and then get the medieval markets

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this set, I'm still to purchase it. I can't justify the price point on this set, it's soooo expensive. I feel the middle part of it is a bit bare with just a walkway really. I do love the gondola or lift whatever you call it!!! And who doesn't laugh at a poop story?!!! 😂 I love the gardens better, I built that and enjoyed it so much I wanted to get the City but cannot afford that these days!! I wonder if I can get this on discount somehow 🧐

Thank you for your good thoughts. I just recently bought the Ninjago city Gardens when Lego had a Black Friday sale. It was $90 off in Canada and double Insider Points. Given the high price point of the City Markets set, I only foresee buying it if it's on sale.

Great video, having a linear city on a shelf I have been playing around with the road plate hight and width myself. I have decided to go with the somewhat rare (but findable on Bricklink etc) 16 x 18 baseplates giving me the same width as you have. Roadplate directly on baseplate and curbs made of bricks not plates and finished with tiles. My issue was that not being enclosed I did want my MILS road to be conectable via technic pins, but obviously the technic bricks show their holes on the road side, in the end I managed to line up my technic bricks with the low, 1 x 4 studded areas of the road plate and placed a dark grey 1 x 4 panel (part 30413) in said 1 x 4 area, the back of the panel covers the technic brick and my pavement is dark grey so best I can come up with for now !

I also like the technic 16x16 frames/plates as they increase modularity a bit, providing a 16 module grid is wanted or needed. I have seen varying prices on these.

Folk need to pause and think before dismissing MILS as too expensive. Instead of buying that one £400 UCS set you could MILS a decent sized city. Benefits i.e. allows different depths, easy to move around etc are definitely worth it.
