Holy Night - Mountain Dulcimer / Christmas Music
มุมมอง 11714 วันที่ผ่านมา
Welcome to my world! Today is the day before Christmas, and tonight is Christmas Eve. So I decided to play you a Religious song pertaining to it. Later on today I will be playing a Secular Christmas song for folks as well. But I decided to play this one first. That said, remember, this is my world. It is in the middle of the day, the house heater is coming on and off, the snow plow went by, and...
Mountain Dulcimer / Soothing song, nontraditional, first time playing for folks. McCafferty Dulcimer
มุมมอง 111หลายเดือนก่อน
I just got this dulcimer in yesterday. I have not played a dulcimer in a year. So I am getting muscle memory back, and rethinking how I see the fretboard. It is NOT the same as playing a guitar. The tuning is different, the way you play it is different, your mind works different. But it is coming back. Also this beauty is very sensitive. So how I play it really matters, as well as consistency. ...

It's been a year in the making, but today my custom mountain dulcimer arrived! She is a beauty. When I get the kinks worked out I will post up some music for you. I am working on tone, and have also been doing an alternative tuning more suited for MY style of playing. I think folks will enjoy what I come up with. So give me a week or so to settle in! Cheers! Smooth Funk with the Whiskey Cowboy - improvised playing for the soul
มุมมอง 162หลายเดือนก่อน
Since it's been a stressful couple of weeks, I thought I would take a few minutes today and share with you some smooth funk improvised with a backing track! This is, as always, a raw, warts and all recording. It's what you would experience when sitting in my home on any given day or evening. It's how I decompress and center myself. So I hope folks enjoy it as much as I enjoy playing. Cheers! GU...

It has been a while, so I took a few minutes this afternoon and played some music for you folks. Here is some relating jazz. I am improvising along with a backing track, and whatever flows is what we get. And here you have it, warts and all. As I often point out, I am not very good, but I do so LOVE playing. And it helps center me. Cheers! GUITAR - Taylor 314ce ltd AMP - Fender AC40 Backing tra...

It's been a long and stressful week. So I decided to just take some time and relax a bit. My playing isn't the best and I'm not in my groove, but sometimes you just have to push through anyways. This is an improvised easy listening song using a backing track. I hope folks enjoy it and it helps them relax as well. I am sorry for the exposure changes, I think clouds were going over. Here is the video of me being out on the water on August 24th, 2024 on the Contoocook River between Hopkinton and Henniker, NH. It was a simply beautiful day, and a perfect way to spend it. If you enjoy this type of canoeing/kayaking, and live in NH, and would like to get out on the water with me, shoot me off a message! My canoe is a Northstar Phoenix (solo canoe) in BlackLite, and my daughter...

This song is improvised using a backing track. It's just some easy listening acoustic guitar. It was fitting for this rainy day. And I am sure we all need to relax and decompress now and again. So here I am, in my living room doing just that. Playing isn't about having to be the best. It is about truly enjoying what you do. And I truly enjoy playing. I hope folks enjoy this one. Cheers! Spanish Song played on Taylor Guitar

Today I am smoking a brisket, so between monitoring and adjusting the smoke and temperature I am playing some guitar. Sorry for the poor audio, but this was just taken with my cellphone in my living room. And I'm not a very good player, but I do enjoy playing... and I hope folks enjoy this song. This guitar is my Taylor 314ce LTD. I just came up with this song on the fly, and am using a backing...

Perfect
Well not really, but thank you. I am about to upload another song. I think folks will enjoy it as well... more so the jazz folks. ;) Cheers.
@@TheWhiskeyCowboyLife I can hardly wait!
There are Chromatic Dulcimers too & those are becoming more common these days.
They are becoming more common, but are not "more common" as in more of them. I have both types, and there are variants between. Having looked into the matter, and talking with dulcimer makers, and seeing what is selling, Diatonic still gets the most sales. I am glad there is such a variety though. But like I said, I am greedy.... give me all the notes. LOL Cheers and Merry Christmas. And thanks for the comment. On another note (no pun intended... ok, maybe a little)... you may want to check out the latest music video I put up. I am playing my new Dulcimer. It's a LOT of fun.
Awesome!!
I have also replaced the peg tuners with open geared tuners. And I will probably refret her at some point. But I have in a new dulcimer as well. th-cam.com/video/WefgBO8thXU/w-d-xo.html
Wow… It was not what I thought it would sound like.. I really like it… You did a great job.. Cheers
Thanks! If I played it unplugged it would sound more like what you would have expected (as most dulcimers sound)... though it is still a bit richer than other full acoustics. I am dialing in "my" tone (almost there) with a mix of both pickups. The humbucker is a tad more than the other. I pulled it out after dinner tonight as well, and I am really finding my groove. The rust is coming off. LOL Look for more stuff being posted! Cheers!
fuck yea dude. wut a time to be alive! well done. I'm assuming improv over a loop? just curious how all this works out coz I'm trying to learn how to improvise using my violin with a looper. proud of you!
Thank you. There are a few ways to do it. Yes, you can use a looper. But how I do mine is run backing tracks via my tablet (off-screen) into my amp (Fender AC40) on channel 1 (note the red cord going into the amp). And I run my guitar into the second channel of the amp (note black cord going into the amp). And some amps have bluetooth too, you can even run the backing tracks off your cellphone. The rest is up to you... as for tone and effects. I am running my guitar into a pedal board, with only the echo pedal on minimally and a slight reverb via the amp itself (the music on line 1 is clean). But I have reverb, chorus, echo, and a looper available on the board. I find those are all I have ever needed and most of them hardly at all. The simpler the better. Good luck and ... HAVE FUN. :) Cheers!
Oh, and on a separate note... I have a custom Mountain Dulcimer being built for me as we speak. It will have a full electronics suite with two types of pickups, and a midi out as well. I will be using it to make other videos like this when it gets in. It's going to be a lot of fun. Cheers.
@@TheWhiskeyCowboyLife thats so awesome man! cant wait to see this setup once fully built
"It's how I decompress and center myself" yup... 👍 liked & sub'd... keep groov'n Whiskey Cowboy
Thanks, and cheers!
Very nice Cowboy! Thank you for sharing 😊
You are most welcome! The full video is on my Channel. :) I have neglected doing the videos... I will do my best to get at least one out per week now.
Nice look’n Brown Bess👌🏼
Ya know, if you stroke 1 left then 1 right the canoe won't do the zigzag
Thank you for your comment! What I know is that I have been canoeing since I was 5, and have a very powerful stroke. It allows me to keep up with the casual kayaker without effort, and generally only paddling on one side. And I also know that if I paddle once on one side, and then once on the other, the "zigzag" would be even more pronounced than shown in the video, where the tip gently moves just a bit to one side and then the other. What you see in the video isn't really a zigzag though, more of the tip of the canoe just going from side to side a bit, while the center and stern keep the track line. And switching sides (more so with every stroke) would also cause water to drip into the canoe itself (though not a major issue). This said, I vary my type of stroke and technique as the situation dictates. And if I really need to scoot will paddle 3-5 strokes on each side before switching to the other. This causes a more pronounced zigzag on the water, but moves down it much faster. Another technique that helps minimize the bow moving back and forth, is to cant/tip the canoe and run on its secondary stability. This works great for those who kneel in the canoe. But I am 6'4" and find it more comfortable to sit flat, and this tend to canoe "flat" as well. I also enjoy the "Hunter's Stroke" (also known as the Indian or Canadian stroke), where the paddle never leaves the water. I do that mostly on deeper water, but this river was quite shallow with parts getting rapidly more shallow, so that style wasn't ideal. Plus, the sound of the paddle and water droplets can be quite soothing. There's a lot of choices folks have to choose from. And each should suit both the person and the situation at hand. That all said, do you live in the general NH area and would like to plan a day out on the water? It's almost canoe season! Cheers!
ADDITIONAL NOTE: The canoe I am using in the video is my Northstar Phoenix solo in BlackLite. It's very light, and if weighted down with gear (like in tripping) the bow sway would be even less. It's quite the playful canoe when unloaded. Fantastic canoe though... and super sexy. LOL Cheers.
That is adorable 😊
I was going to just do a couple boards, but thought... hey... why not a heart? It's fitting. :) Cheers!
If folks would like to schedule an outing on the water with me, shoot me off an e-mail and we will see if it we can make it happen! thewhiskeycowboy@gmail.com
Great video ❤
Love this!😊
They are too! LOL They love scratching around in the hay and even making cozy nonlaying nesting spots.
Nice looking gear. Is your "Brown Bess" missing the swell in the forestock? I can't tell on my phone. Edit for typo
Thank you. And no, she has the swell. It is right at the point the ramrod actually goes inside the wooden stock... you may notice it better by looking at the part just above the third band on the whiskey barrel... top band, then two below it. Because of the swell, the grain is darker there. Once you notice it, you won't NOT see it from that point on... kind of like not noticing a mole, but then when pointed out.... crap. LOL She also has all the proper markings on the flintlock itself.
What a beautiful rifle sir! I've just this week completed a 1st pattern brownbess with the 46" barrel, correct in every detail. Even proofed the barrel the old way and alls good.
Great video! Thank you for sharing!😊

A suggestion with the Fishell, if at the end of the power stroke you turn your top hand thumb-down and pull the paddle forward bracing along the gunwale (have the leather lashing actually touching the gunwale as you move the paddle forward through the water), it produces the correction you need and reduces the effective weight of the paddle because you're bracing on the gunwale. Let the blade stay in the water until just as you're about to pull out for the next stroke. It makes for a VERY quiet stroke that is nearly effortless. That Fishell is SO ideal for this stroke (which I think is called the Canadian stroke)...
That is all wonderful advice. And you are correct. I have been paddling since I was 6 and I often use the Canadian/Indian/hunter's stroke (the one you describe). But I tend to not brace on the gunwale when tracking forward. Both are correct though and work great. So why do my videos not show that? Well.... because I switch up my strokes given my mood, situation, and other things. And then when editing I may cut out when I am doing this or that stroke... and as you saw, most of the video you can't even see "me" at all. That said, for the sound.... folks like the sound a classic J stroke with the removal of the paddle from the water. But again, yes, I do both... as well as other strokes, as needed. This all said, indeed the Fishell paddle is fantastic for the Canadian/Indian/Hunter's stroke. Super smooth... super quiet... mmmmmm As you could probably tell as well, I have a very powerful stroke. I use three main paddles when out (when needed)... my classic bever tail, a shorter and wider (skinny water or rocks) paddle, and the Fishell modified otter tail. And I also keep a kayak paddle in the canoe as well "just in case"... you know, if I need to get out of the weather fast. But I don't use it often and prefer not to. I hope that explained why you may not see me using that stroke in this or my other videos. Thanks for watching though and commenting. Truly. Cheers!
Love that Fishell paddle!!!
As do I. It is truly a beautiful and well suited paddle. A pure pleasure to use. :)
Thank you!
