Resurrecting a Sony Playstation 1 SCPH-1001
มุมมอง 6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This broken, dirty PS1 sat alone in a thrift store. A broken laser and no home. Can I replace the damaged KSM-440AAM laser and bring new life into this launch version PS1? It has been many years since I have recorded or edited a video. SO I do apologize for the close up, badly lit angles. I was just really excited to try and breath some life into this old console. I promise, the future will loo...
So Fun Pimps just ripped me off then...Developers, All of them, seem to get sexual gratification from ripping off console users.
So many gamers are so misinformed about this game and the dilemma TellTale caused TFP
Wrong from the start, that is 4 minutes in when you stop with the intro and begin by saying the decided to look for someone to do the console port. Fun pimps refused the console port regularly telling us it would never be console until tell tale stepped in and offered to buy the privilege. Fun pimps had no intentions of it ever being a console game.
Its back it was released again wit v1
I paid a fiver for the ps4 version and love it. The notion of messing about with a PC isn't for me. Really enjoyed playing until i got a ps5 in November. I get that PC elitism is a thing and folk are welcome to it. Just not a great way to attract others player's. Rock or Bear baby...
Spent over 2k Hours in this game and never once did i attempt to read the note. Hat of to you sir!
The more interesting part of this story is Telltale Games, and their collapse. Congrats to TFP for getting the rights to their own game back, and getting back in the console saddle. It's a very CPU based sandbox that got ported well.
I got it on ps5, and it's great
I'm post-console, but I stil had XB1 when this was released. Weird feeling jumping between playing this old version with controller, as opposed to whatever old version was current on pc back then, with kbm, as well as adjusting to different player groups and character builds. Console version was ass: True. Console version was cheap: True. Console version was abandoned by the console publishers, which has nothing to do with the computer version of the developers: True. This game is currently worth buying on PC or Console: was it ever? if you like the idea and mechanics of the game, form your own opinion. IDK about console, but on Steam you can always refund it easily if you've played less than two hours and owned it less than two weeks. (do NOT confuse this with the early access game Blood Moons on Steam, which is a spin-off pvp version of 7d created by the same devs. Could end up being cool like L4D versus, but it looks more like a cash grab from a company who's been developing the same property for a decade)
consoles suck in general...movement is clunky and aiming is bland for an y game on a console....wich is why whenever i hear someone say they play a console or anything i always say "my condolences."
*I got it on Xbox One for Christmas in 2013. Got my 2nd gaming PC in 2015 & got 7 Days in a Steam sale. I put around 500 hours into the game in total. But I can't bring myself to play it again because EVERY frigging update I am forced to start a new game & I simply can't be bothered to start my 100th playthrough. I don't know any other game that has this issue except 7DTD & I feel they shouldn't get a pass when its took what 12 years for the game to get out of Alpha & still forcing players to start a new game with each update? Screw that.*
on xbox, maybe 2016. definitely not 2013. if this "EVERY frigging update I am forced to start a new game" has bothered you for a decade plus and you've only complained without researching, it's on you. all you need to do in Steam is: right click 7d in your game list properties betas pick the version you want to play. that's it. that's how it's always been. it's frustrating that so many people feel let down by this game because of that reset issue, without understanding how simple it is to fix! that's it. if you have something like 'latest experimental' set, that means it's going to want you to create a new save before playing after updating, because the update was significant. if i didn't explain it well enough, get back at me and we'll figure it out together, man. another blood moon is just around the corner!
@luckycard1669 *Actually the game was released in 2013 on Xbox so get your facts right. Furthermore an update shouldn't completely nullify a save the people who accept this are the problem with gaming today.*
Wrong@stuart
@josh-sy4gg Dude you are the worst part of gamers."I'm never buying anything from the fun pimps" really!? Did you even watch the video? The fun pimps had nothing to do with the ps4 or xbox Version, it was all telltale. Telltale went Bankrupt wich fucked over the fun pimps. He explains it in the video. If you've ever played the pc version, you would know that they actually put a lot of time effort and care Into their games. You're Judging the fun pimps based off of something, they had no control over.
How about how fun pimps ripped off console gamers by selling them a broken incomplete mess and then blamed another company for their product. And then tried to make it right by selling the game console players already bought at a discounted price that was the same as when they initialy bought it. How the hell an alpah version of a game thats not finished got put in game cases as walmart to sell to the public is astounding
Fun pimps never sold console Versions of the game. That was telltale. And it was pre-alpha at the time. Lot of game devs sell their games before its completed. Its a way to drum up support and funds, which is pretty smart. The fun pimps never "blamed" telltales for what happend. Which they are well within their rights to do. They are just trying to make the best of a situation that telltales fucked up.
@CaptainKnate69420 its their game. Whether they contracted tell tale to port their work to console or not its still their game. They made profits off of selling that pre alpha unfinished game to console players and when tell tal went away and fans looked to fun pimps to find out if the game they paid for would continue to be developed fun pumps said nope.but well sell you the exact same game you paid for only with the new updates and to make it right well discount it, just ignore that thr discounted price is the same price you paid for th game you already bought. Very scummy but not unual for thr failing video game industry now a days
@@patient_6925 It might be their game , but tell tale is not their company. You can't blame the fun pimps for that. Fun pimps said nope to updateing the console version cuz they make pc games not console games. Thats why they went to telltales to port it to console. Now, when it comes to the full game, Version 1.0, the ps4 or xbox 1 cant handle that so its gotta be ported for next gen consoles. Which last i heard funpimps is woking on. And from what ive heard they want it to be free but sony says no, i dont know what xbox is saying about that. But the funpimps did work out a deal with sony to sell it discounted. If things wouldve went as planned they wouldve sold it pre-alpha and updated regularly for free. Just like minecraft, no mans sky and so many other dev that do that. But telltales went under. None of this is fun pimps doing. They really are the victim in this situation. They Deserve alittle respect for picking up the ball that telltale dropped. And convincing sony to sell it at a discount.
@@CaptainKnate69420 stopped to say exactly this. telltale bought the license to port the game to console, ported their jank incomplete pre-alpha, then went bankrupt and ended support. TFP got the license back mid '24 ,got to work and made their newest version console-friendly (as well as they could lol). for like eight years console players have been, rightfully, upset about this. unfortunately, most of them are misinformed about who it was that messed this up. i thought it was pretty rad of TFP to offer any discount at all to owners of the previous version, since TFP weren't the publishers of the original console sales. That said mostly in defense of the current game state and devs, I have to admit that 7d is still an incomplete game after more than a decade of alpha/beta versions. TFP seem to have no idea what they are doing for a real roadmap, making drastic core changes seemingly constantly. Unfulfilled KS promises, unrealized goals. Glitchy sometimes, janky most times, but fun every time. Graphically, it's dated. Sound is overwhelming sometimes. Controls... i can't speak for console, 7d is the only game i choose to play w kbm.
The thing no one mentions is fun pimps were adamantly against doing a console port and said it would never come to console and only agreed to it when tall tale begged to buy the rights and port it over.
Had the console version and there were issues almost immediately. Anywhere from perks being utterly pointless to things being featured ie traps that never made it to the game this was a disaster. The AI also being incredibly stupid did not help it either. You literally could dig a hole and sit out the horde with no danger as the zombies couldn't dig down. By the time horde 3 came around I was bored with the game and didn't see much reason to restart knowing how broken and out of date it was. I mean we are talking literal tears in the mapping, holes you could see across the map and cliffs ledges that would literally kill you if you ran. Add to that the old forum page which my god you want to talk about useless. The mods would post replies from the fun pimps which literally promoted the idea there would be updated console support coming. This obviously never happened and once it was announced the answer became well better rebuy it on PC then. The response was about as terrible and uncaring as you could get. From then on I decided I would never buy another version or anything made by the pimps
you had the TellTale 2016 alpha 16.5( i think) port. that game state was only around for a few months on PC, but the publisher Telltale, who you paid for that console version of the game state, went broke and never updated it. If you bought the 2024 console version, you'd see a different game. I understand the confusion as to who to blame, and I'm totally not into the developers making a 7d spinoff game while 7d isn't even done (STILL), but if you liked the idea of 7d a decade ago enough to buy it, get this one when it's on sale. the basic ideas are still there, it's just been polished and updated a lot. (also they added crossplay, so you can play with your console or pc friends, within limits)
@@luckycard1669oh I know what happened and I remember the 7 d forums with mods passing info from the pimps. I actually got banned many times for speaking out about the state of the game. Every month there was a promise something was coming, some update, some feature once the pc got their update. After several months the updates stopped and the mods (who replied) became hostile and changed their language to that of "fun pimps have nothing to do with this anymore but maybe if your lucky they'll buy the ip back". Of course that was followed by the announcement that even with getting the IP back we would never see support. To be clear the port never ran well so not adding updates to a game that doesn't work as it is for fear it may break something never made sense. While yes I could rebuy the game and yes I watch other play it I don't really see a draw to go back. I've never experienced such a poorly handled product where after years the answer is simply go and buy the new version.
@@josh-sy4gg I'm sorry that that was your experience. I've never used the forums or asked community or mods for help, I've just referred to YT vids when i ran into a glitch, so idk about the community toxicity. But you understand that the version you played was out of TFP hands, right? Once TellTale bought the license to port it to console, any future development was on TT, not TFP. TellTale bought 16.whatever from the devs, not 16.whatever+ future updates from TFP on PC for them to port to console. So when mods or community or devs said they had nothing to do with it, it wasn't to dismiss you, it's just facts. I had xb1 and the console version, i understand the frustration. I probably played that less than a month before I gave up. Console was already like 2 alphas ahead, and my homies were as frustrated with the console as everyone else, so why bother to keep playing? that said, all the failures to support the 2016 console version reflect the business practices of TT, who are not associated with TFP beyond buying and botching the license to 7d. GD i hate sounding like a bootlicker, but i really like this game.
lol man i spent so much time trying to type facts and not just opinions that i forgot to watch this video XD i hope they come out with a version that cool enough that you get back into it, man. i wasn't trying to be argumentative, just informative.
Good stuff you saved this old 1 gen ps1, this version had lots of issues, 2nd gen was better
Hi, you needed to adjust the bias lens ?
I remember the original sony playstation it's a great videogame system
Shouldn't SCPH-1001 have that old gray bios with grid? Newer ones have that blue with bubbles.
You’ve got that reversed, lol. Old models were hella radical

I can't speak for every company. But the unit I used in this video is still going strong for me. I hope this helps
@@UneeGaming thank you for the reply I'm glad it worked good for you, I just bought a psone alone in good condition just for the optical drive spare parts so for me it was less cheap than the Chinese reverse engineered lasers so I bought the original I know they last years and are heat resistant, let's see how it turns out I'm waiting for the spare parts.

This model of the PS1 was the first ever model I've owned back in the day.
I just bought that same laser to replace my 1001's and the laser won't move. I'm going to try the shroud swap and see if that does something. Thank you kindly for this information. Kudos, big man! PS. After doing exactly what you did, my PS just goes straight to the menu select screen. The laser doesn't even try to read the disc. I guess I need another laser assembly.
Some of the older models require a ribbon cable adaptor to get it to work maybe thst might help?
There's 440AEM lasers on Ebay as of this comment. They ship from China though.
Good music choice ;)
All PS1 lasers will work on any version even the psone its just the ribbon cable lengths are different.
That is awesome information! Thank you for sharing that with us. When I was reading a few forums, some people complained about issues, but never really stated what it was. I just tried to stay with something that worked. :D

Where did you buy this laser from? Would you mind posting or PM-ing me a link? If you don't mind of course. Great video!!!!
I scored the laser from eBay. The package took quite a bit to get here and it was badly beaten up, but the unit itself was absolutely perfect.
