Thanks. Is there any lossage when connecting two in series? I hope to be able to test your 300w array.
Low watts = broken panel🤦♂️
Doing this same test with a traditional solar panel will put the watts to 0! A broken cell only reduces the output of the Shade Stopper panel proportional to the non-producing cells
Just discovered this company. I’m very interested in trying one. However, I’m disappointed that they are not waterproof. I will pick on up if it goes on sale or has a discount code available
Thanks for your interest! The flexible panel is 100% waterproof (and is on sale right now!). The folding panel is water-resistant, but there is an onboard USB port so you can directly plug in your USB devices, and that port is not waterproof. BUT it's on the back of the panel inside a water-resistant zipper pouch, so it will hold up really well in the rain.
Hi… Isn’t the one on the left producing more volts?
Hi, thanks for your question! While the voltage might be higher on the left, the amount of total power is measured in Watts. Since the panel on the right is producing (way) more watts, it's producing more power. It will charge your battery faster, generate more heat for a heater, charge you phone faster, etc.
Are these compatible with a Bluetti AC500 +B300s backup solar generator?
Yes, this should work great with that Bluetti AC500!
Excellent Idea! Brilliant, I was thinking at first they are all in parallel but a comment below ruled that out, anyway if they are in parallel they cant produce 18 volts, so theres got to be some controller or something that reads the output of all the cells and bypasses a cell if it is bad
My guess is the "patent-pending technology" == more bypass diodes. We can do expensive things like adding diodes or half cutting the cells, or we could (for free) not put *portable* panels in the shade.
@@fratermus5502 Well our panels are less expensive than Jackery, Bluetti, or Anker--and sometimes that shade finds you! Not to mention, what if a cell breaks in the wild?
Da 4 points better not big deal. If 10+ then yeah
They are connected in parallel. Which is a very good idea.
The cells are not connected in parallel, there are 36 cells outputting roughly 0.5V each connected in series for a final voltage around 18V. But the outcome is similar to connecting each cell in parallel. Either way, it works really well, as you can see in this video!
some version of micro inverters, its been on houses for years now
On a residential installation, you have to "invert" the DC power created by the solar panel to AC power that is running your house. In portable applications like we are showing here, the DC power created by panels is charging the DC battery directly. On the input side of the battery, there is no AC inverter. Shade Stopper panels work by bypassing cells that are not producing electricity. Surprisingly, standard panels just produce power at or near the output of the LOWEST power producing cells. If a cell is broken or fully shaded, that output can be extremely low.
Simple they are putting a inferred solar cells elements in it or something to redirect the power if one cell fails
There's no infrared aspect to it, we just bypass cells that are not producing power.
How come your website does not give any specs on your panels? What is the voltage on this etc..?
Thanks for the feedback, we added some more technical specs to our website. The panels output 18V through the direct DC power output, which is what is shown in this video. They also have on board USB type A and type C out so you can plug directly into your devices if you'd like.
