Chinese drill press | Restoration | Variable frequency drive
After cooking my old drill press with 3" hole saws, I decided to upgrade and restore it. During the restoration I changed the motor for more powerfull one, added all of the electronics for variable frequency drive (VFD), new wiring. It came out perfect. It will do the job untill I find a bigger machine.

In this video you will see a process of building 90 degree welding vise. You can easily build your own by replicating my work. You neeed some material, a welder, square and an angle grinder. Hi :). I am thinking of converting my drill press to VFD. At 18:30 you fit the small single pulley. Is there a reason you use that instead of the stock one?

    • @makeityourself5016
      @makeityourself5016 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, there is a reason. Vfd is great and all but you have to know that electric motor does not produce a lot of torque when being driven by small frequency. And the same goes for high frequency. Its ment for 50 or 60Hz. I wanted to have powerfull drill press on lower RPM-s. Thats why I went with the smallest pulley available.

    • @michaelrobinson9643
      @michaelrobinson9643 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@makeityourself5016 Do you know what type of pulley it is? I cannot find a "split" one to fit on a straight keyed shaft easily. Mine is an old vintage drill - 5/8" shaft I think and finding an easy to fit single or dual groove option is a pain.

    You have it all wrong. The rail could bend and collapse at the knee brace. The positions should be reversed; the brace on top, and extended all the way to the end of the trolly beam.Don't know what that wall is made of, but this looks like a casualty waiting to happen.

    • @makeityourself5016
      @makeityourself5016 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is dangerous, indeed. If not implemented properly. It needs reinforced cocrete wall to hold that much. Regular bricks would just colapse.

    Great welds - super project - question on your weld technique - almost looks like you are using a type of "whip" nozzle movement, when most mig guys use more of a circular nozzle movement. Is that correct? Whatever you are doing, produced a very even seam. Nice job.

    • @makeityourself5016
      @makeityourself5016 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. Yes, that's one of the techinques. I believe its not recomended for begginers because you can end up with lack of fusion. But if you know how to stay on the leading edge of the puddle it's just perfect. I like that technique the most. I had my welds tested and i did penetration test and they were all good. That circular motion is used with lower currents. Its not used in spray transfer, just in short circuit mig or globular. .
