Another method to make a dubbed body is by using a single strand of thread (not a loop)! Put the thread on the hook where you want to start the body, and hang it from the bobbin under tension, wax it well and then lifting the thread on your left index finger (reverse for lefties), spin your bobbin counter clock wise letting you bobbin hang, then hang it against something that will not allow it to spin back clockwise! Touch dub the thread, when satisfied, spin the bobbin clock wise until you get the body you prefer! The waxed spun thread will lock the dubbing into place and your body is ready to wrap! Learned this from someone who I do not recall! Thanks to you, whoever you are! Tight lines!

Rather than make the loop first and then insert the dubbing between the the loop, I find it way easier to wax my thread and place in the location I want to start my dubbing, letting my bobbin hang below, keeping tension on the thread, put the dubbing onto the waxed thread using touch dubbing or twist dubbing depending on the body you are striving to make and then put your dubbing spinner hook at the lowest point of your thread that has dubbing on it and now fold the bare thread onto the other hook of your dubbing spinner below the dubbing then bring the bare thread up to your hook and attach, now forming a dubbing loop with your dubbing spinner hanging as the weight which will bring the dubbed thread and the bare thread into parallel position forming a loop, spin and voila dubbing rope made! Wrap as your body in the typical way! I use sticky ski wax if the colour of the wax won’t be an issue. You could use the glue trap too or use one of the sticky waxes such as tacky wax. Poke dubbing into the pre formed loop is a harder method than what I described above! I also like to position my hook in my vice upside down to avoid nicking my thread by simply rotating it into position or if your vice does not rotate put the hook in upside down and reposition the hook upright if necessary after making the body! Been tying for 56 years, figured out a few things to make it easier for me! Tight lines!

The figure eight is the issue! There is a totally simple way to avoid it and you get a simple double loop which doesn’t create that bad coiled up crap. You just need to not do the wraps down on your loop but up and it makes a HUGE difference. Difficult to explain and I cannot find a video for it here or elsewhere. I don’t know why. It works way better. Looks better too. At least for not too heavy line I use it since years almost never snapped! It’s so easy and just a little adjustment. Maybe I will do a video on it as I can’t believe I can’t find it anywhere done properly ( in my experience at least only right way ).
