We are the Millers and we come from a long line of Amish descendants. Both of our parents grew up Amish, but later left and decided it wasn't the lifestyle for them. It took only one generation removed from this lifestyle to lose so much of what our ancestors thought of as "normal." Our goal is to help people grow their own food and become more self sufficient. We recently bought a 6 acre Farmstead and we are so excited to share this journey with you! Please subscribe to see how we turn this piece of abandoned land into a thriving homestead!

Something to think about is that thing doesn’t have rops. (Roll over protection system) So be careful on it, if it flips it will land on you.

sluggo plus is dangerous to pets, wildlife and earthworms, although they claim it's not. The iron phosphate isn't the problem, Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is the culprit in combination with the iron phosphate. It seems that even veterinarians complain about this problem

Not everything under that tarp stuff will die. Some serious problems (weeds) can manage underneath just fine. But in saying this, it's the healthier way to get rid of unwanted grass and other stuff.

Coppicing and pollarding do encourage suckering on the black locust. So maybe worse on the honey. I may try the black locust but I want to pollard it for firewood. Concerned about the sucker growth. One can dig the young suckers up from the root and replant or burn. My issue is that, while I can deal with a tree like this, I’m only going to be around and kicking for maybe 25 years if I’m lucky… 35 if I quit my bad habits and adopt better ones. I like to think about future value vs future nightmare for whoever gets my homestead after I’m gone. Which I hope my grandchildren will be able to enjoy.

Had a Pitbull boxer mix that was the same way. He was the perfect dog for every reason you can think of. No barking, unless there was danger, no pooping in the house, he listened very very well, all that. And on top of that, its almost as if he knew what you wanted him to do and he did it immediately. He was very muscular and strong and fast, and he was super protective, and knew who was and wasnt a threat. If he growled, they had a bad intention. If he didnt, they were ok. He rarely growled at anyone, and never at anyone we really knew. He defended us and our property when a giant, scruffy, homeless looking dog showed up- and Ozzie knew he was there. At first, i thought he had to pee, and out of the corner of my eye, i saw it through the window. A giant, dangerous looking dog. I saw it and unintentionally cussed cause it was that scary looking. And i knew Ozzie was badass, so after breif hesitation, not wanting to get my dog hurt, i opened the door. I knew even if Ozzie couldnt fight him off, hes the fastest living thing i have ever seen, probably able to run almost 50 mph, (i would know, ive ridden that fast, ik what thats like), he could get away easily even if he couldnt fight him. After 3 breif skirmishes, and lots of barking and growling, it was clear who had the upper hand, and they were off around the bend out of sight fighting to the death. The big scary dog, was tucking tail and running. Ozzie was a freaking beast. And he came back, not even out of breath, and not a scratch. What a savage. He sadly passed from cancer 2 years ago. At the age of 4. RIP Ozzie. I will remember you for the rest of my life.

Interesting that these folks are talking about prepping for a catastrophic event, but I noticed the own two late model, computer controlled, fuel injected vehicles, which would become non useful as transportation in such an event. The van could be used as housing but, could not be relied upon as a source of transportation, if a major EMP event took place. Most people prepping give little thought to transportation. Looking to Western NC, in the aftermath of Helene, its obvious most of us need to consider owning an ATV of some sort, especially an ATV with a tow behind trailer, as ATVs and SXSs, proved their worth, when there suddenly were no roads, and only rough terrain in Western NC, as did farm equipment (Tractors and such) Having Food, Water, Emergency Supplies ( lighting etc), Shelter and Medical supplies are great focus items. Having an adequate form of transportation needs to be on that list as well.

We’ve got 6 acres and the manufactured home will be delivered within the month as soon as the county permit is approved and I will be back there for good in January. Working in Arizona right now at my job, but hoping to, be there to start our Homestead and to TH-cam the progress as we go.😊. We will be in East Tennessee, and you’re right about dreams. I used tordon rtu on some very invasive bamboo in my yard, i got back a strip 30 foot wide by 80 foot or so, planted watermelons in that spot just 2 years later... still have stragglers 5 years later..i just keep cutting out to kill it, but the tordon got the bulk of it. I just saturated the stumps as soon as i cut it... still pulling dead roots out.. bamboo hardly rots, and cant burn it because each node explodes like a tiny grenade...

I HATE these trees!! The thorns can go right through tires, animal feet, and shoes. I have been trying to eradicate these trees on our property for years now. The only way I have found is crossbow, but it is not available in all states and you have to be VERY careful not to get it close to other desirable trees. In that case you just have to keep pulling and chopping all of the root suckers that keep trying to come up and it takes years.

Just wanted to share something that my ladies go crazy over. Kerrygold 100% natural cheese. I cut a slice then cut it into small cubes. Minimally processed cheese is a great source of protein and calcium. Cheese is high in sodium,so you don’t want to over use it. As you do the clap to have them come running for their treat. I do a whistle. They come a running. I also use it as bait to round them up as they will follow me back into the protective run. Pimpen Eggs from Rich’ Bitches the best layers in town. 😂 I take great care of my ladies. They give me gorgeous high nutritional eggs that stand tall with a beautiful rich orange yolk.
