Air Force Ones - Museum of the United States Air Force
From the Museum of the United States Air Force.
The Presidential Aircraft Gallery located in the brand new (2016) building.
Presidential Aircraft from FDR to Kennedy are on display and able to walk through.
This was filmed during a visit to Dayton with my father on July 20, 2016, just over a month after the new building had opened.

    It amazes me how many aircraft Kermit has! Would love to see him restore the B29 one day as well as the Lancaster he has too. But, I dread to think of the cost of the restorations. Also he has to build up ACT III & make it sustainable first

    It's sad that Kermit will never restore or fly any of this stuff. It's even more pathetic that he closed FoF and will probably never fully open again. He's a metaphysical freak.

    ..man, I would like to see some of these moved to the forefront of restoration efforts before it's too late for me (or Kermit, for that matter) to get to see them restored..I do know the Wirraway and BF-108 are now underway. Kermit is wealthy, but I strongly suspect he doesn't have the money to restore all this..it would take a multi-BILLIONAIRE to get all this restored in a reasonable time frame...and I suspect the costs of restoration rise each year...I would really like to see some of the really rare stuff being restored very soon..the Kawasaki Ki-61, that Val or whatever it is, the B-23 Dragon, F9F Panther, are some that come to mind...I respect that in the end, it's Kermit's stuff, and he can go with whatever plan he chooses..but I am sometimes puzzled when I see him purchasing more common stuff like Wacos, replicas like the Polikarpov I-16, or more restoration projects, when the funds could have been used toward getting some of this stuff that's been sitting forever started....

      If you are serious about preservation and restoration, sometimes it's about saving items from becoming scrap or deteriorating in a farm paddock somewhere. It's also about appreciating assets, Some things can later be sold off when the market is high, to fund the restoration of other pieces or to swap for other pieces. Museums all over the world do this all the time.

      Brian Green You’re probably correct. I get irritated when I see historic aircraft sitting derelict and going nowhere. Wealthy enthusiasts acquire them with the intention of restoring them but don’t realize how much money and time it takes,then they just sit in warehouses or,heaven forbid,fields. The National Air and Space Museum has historic,one of a kind WWII German aircraft in storage with no timeline as to when they will be restored. The Foche Wulf TA 152,Messerschmitt Me 488,and others that are the only ones in existence. Its been 70 years since the end of WWII,by the time they get around to restoring these there won’t be anyone to care about this part of aviation history.

    Are these aircraft being held as a source for spare parts or are to to be restored someday??

    • @michaelminear9943
      @michaelminear9943 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe Weeks intends to restore them to their original factory appearance and make them flyable. Based on the videos for the Bf 108, they have researched and determined what it looked like when rolled out of the factory. And as much as possible, they are trying to source original parts. Some of the aircraft, such as K-61, have had pieces loaned out to other restorers as templates.

      @@Whitpusmc The restored nose section. Essentially from the nose to the pressure bulkhead. The bomb bay section, aft pressure area (aft gunners compartment), and the tail assembly are present, as is at least one engine assembly. I did not see all the engines, nor did I see the wings or horizontal stabilizers. Weeks did get this aircraft whole, and was intending to fly it to his museum at the time, but issues cropped up and rather then risk flying it, it was disassembled and shipped. I believe Weeks has at least 2 B-29s, including one stored out in California at Aero Trader.
