Its to bad that they didnt polish this song more. For these 2 to get together and put out something so crude and un-professional sounding is a crime. It sounds like a play around jam session, and not something they would actually put on an album. It sounds like they werent even in the studio together. I think they must have sent tapes back and forth and then Maddona's record deadline hit and they had to put it on a record even though it was unfinished. Anyway, an odd little ditty that only superfans of Madonna or Prince know about. I wish Madonna would re-work this song, update it, keep prince's vocals in it, and make this a hit as a nod to Prince and giving his and Madonna's fan base something more.

Madonna is good at what she does:allow others to write the majority of her music, create her style and market her correctly. She is not in the same league as Prince when it comes to the organic creation of music. Prince creates music across every genre and is still producing incredible music despite his lack of chart appearances recently. He chooses to remain outside of the charts, releasing all of his music independently. Anybody who believes that chart success equals talent is brain dead.

Well, I won´t deny that Vogue has a kitsch or better camp touch, at last as you said is a tribute to movie stars and glamour, but as much I like Prince, he was also really kitsch... dont you remember his outfits, mise en scene etc?...But well, personally I´ve never had a problem with it, as I hadn´t with the camp from Vogue...

Prince just plays outside of the pop musical mainstream. He's more of a hard rocker, mixed with blues, soul, funk, electro, psychedelic, hip hop and jazz influences. He shows no concerned with chart success and trends.

Vogue is PURE kitsch! It pays tribute to movie stars and glitterati gone by in a deliberately over the top, campy manner with a throbbing house-beat in the background. If that ain't kitsch, I don't know what is. Maybe it's a little unfair to say that Madonna's a slave to kitsch and what's cheap but a lot of her success owes to it. As for "niche aspects", Prince is as distinctive as they come. As for music videos and fashion, I'll give Madonna immense credit there. How could I not...

Prince is seen as this shady, weird mixed race dude who had his time years ago but he's still released a lot of good music over the last twenty years. He's paid a certain price as far as popularity goes for mass-producing music at an incredible rate and willingly distancing himself from the limelight. People want music on their doorstep these days and Prince just doesn't work like that.

I forgot to mention Image.. Image is also important in Pop, since a lot of Madonnas work is corroborated with a visual artistic aspect, which helps with her performance, thats talent in my opinion.

How is Vogue a kitsch? Material Girl wasnt even written by Madonna. Okay I dont deny Prince has more talents in regards to his vocals and instruments.. Many people have undeniable talents in music, but dont become as successful. For someone to remain a huge star, they have to have that niche aspect, i.e. Performance, distinct vocals and songwriting.

Madonna's success owes to her unerring ability to tweak perceptions and stir up every and every controversy imaginable. Prince's success has come about because of talent more than anything else, even if he has pushed more than a few buttons himself... Also, Prince is more self-sufficient. Madonna, talented though she is, has relied on A LOT of big names over the course of her career. Prince is more dexterous and generally less outwardly calculated in his actions.

A lot of music doesn't cater to my tastes but that doesn't mean that I can't see what's great about it. Prince is on another plain. Madonna's strongpoints have always been her commitment, relentless ambition and intelligence. She's become a viable artist sure but she's just not messing with Prince. I'll always give Madonna credit for her staggeringly good run of albums from 86-00 but Prince has arguably the best discography of the '80s and enough about him in other areas to win this argument.
